IGP Egbetokun Didn’t Suspend Any AIG, 4 Others – Youth Alliance

The Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation that has been monitoring the development trends in the Nigeria Police Force for over 15 years, has debunked the news published by The SUPREME titled “Rumble in Police Over Suspension of 3 AIGs, 4 Others; Retired Officers Berate IGP.”

Reacting to the false publication on Tuesday, the Alliance’s Publicity Secretary, Danjuma Lamido, said that IGP Kayode Egbetokun did not slate two more AIGs, two CPs, one DCP, and one ACP for suspension.

“We have taken note of all the publications of The SUPREME for the past 1 year, and it tends to damage the excellent reputation of the most focused and dedicated IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

“We wish to state that the Police Service Commission suspended Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Abdul Yari against the insinuation by The SUPREME. The IGP does not have the power to suspend senior police officers.

“IGP Egbetokun did not earmark the officers for suspension. He did not direct the Force Secretary and Budget office to suspend their names from the staff list, nor did their salaries get placed on hold.

“We challenge The SUPREME to name the “many senior police officers, serving and retired, who spoke” on the blog, as The SUPREME is fond of fabricating false sources aimed at attacking the excellent work of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the statement said.

The group called on the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre to place The SUPREME on the watch list of fake news organisations.
