Ogbia LGA Finals Of Prosperity Cup: Chairman, Council Officials Absent, As Citiboi Dethrones Movers FC

Citiboi FC of Imiringi has dethroned Movers FC of Otuasega as Ogbia champions of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football spectacle, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, tagged the Prosperity Cup

Citiboi FC beat hard-fighting Movers FC of Otuasega 5-4 on penalties after a barren draw in regulation time in an encounter decided at the Imiringi Township stadium, without the local government chairman, Hon. Jeremiah Golden, and members of his cabinet in attendance.

Despite the absence of the Ogbia Council chairman, the game lived up to expectation with a massive turnout of fans.

The Movers FC trio of Elton Mina, Precious Omonibo and Appah Sydney, on three occasions in the first half, came close but could not convert their chances despite dominating proceedings to the admiration of the fans.

Citiboi FC came into the game in the second half, but the former Ogbia champions proved impregnable as their defence line of Azibalua Jerome, Ola Elton, and Benard Amikpo rose to the occasion to cut off every goal-bound move by the Citiboi FC attacking lineup.

Speaking to reporters, the victorious Head Coach of Citiboi FC, Gomo Onduku, said their exposure in the Nationwide League One was what gave them the edge over their opponents, describing Movers FC as a good side.

The former Bayelsa United forward appreciated the Prosperity administration for giving the youths in the state the platform to showcase their talents, maintaining that the competition has brought out more hidden talents in the state.

Despite the defeat, Movers FC coach Sunday Mackay believes that his team was the better side. He urged Citiboi FC to prepare themselves if they were to meet again in the Round of 32 of the tournament, describing his team’s performance as brilliant.

Champions Citiboi FC smiled home with the sum of one million Naira (N1,000,000), while second-placed Movers FC received five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000).

Citiboi FC becomes the latest team to join Agbere FC, Adaka FC, Crusaders FC and Nembe City as LGA champions of the ongoing Prosperity Cup tournament.

It will be the turn of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area on Thursday,15th of May, 2025, as Professor Nimibofa Ayawei, PNA FC of Koluama, welcomes Oyoma FC of Oyoma at the Southern Ijaw Secondary School, Oporoma (SISSO), Field by 2 O’clock in the afternoon.
