Group Slams Sowore Over Attack On IGP Egbetokun

The Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation that has been monitoring the development trends in the Nigeria Police Force for over 15 years has slammed a former failed presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, over his verbal attacks on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Alliance’s Publicity Director, Danjuma Lamido, described Sowore’s recent attacks on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as disrespectful and unacceptable.

The statement added, It is absurd and blatantly disrespectful to call the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ‘retired, tired, and incompetent.” The moment has arrived to stop Sowore from continuously attacking IGP Egbetokun.

“It is a shame that Sowore has decided to go blind against the Police Act 2020 (as amended) especially Section 18 of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, specifically subsection (8) which extend the tenure of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) beyond the previous limit of 35 years of service or 60 years of age.

“The amendment allows the IGP to serve until the end of the term stipulated in their appointment letter, aligned with Section 7(6) of the Act. This change effectively allows the IGP to serve a four-year term.

“The continuous attacks on IGP Egbetokun by Omoyele Sowore are not only unfounded, but they are also supported by desperate politicians and politically exposed police personnel who are out to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s government.

“We implore Sowore to reconsider his strategy and abstain from attacking IGP Egbetokun any further. The Integrity Youth Alliance will not tolerate Sowore’s disregard and defamation of the Inspector General of Police’s office.

“In conclusion, while we condole the family of Late Kehinde Paul Alade, we stand in solidarity with IGP Egbetokun. We will not tolerate any further attacks against IGP Egbetokun and the Nigerian Police Force, and we will continue to defend his honour and integrity.”
