The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance has lauded the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and the Nigeria Police management team over the commissioning of 50 state-of-the-art operational vehicles for the Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a press statement signed by its Secretary, Comrade Olalekan Johnson, the coalition described the commissioning event, which took place today, as a manifestation of the IGP’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the internal security architecture of the country.
The statement expressed the delight of Nigerians at the delivery of the highly specialised vehicles, which are meticulously designed and fully equipped to confront modern security threats. According to the coalition, the commissioning represents a deliberate and strategic investment in national security infrastructure at a time when the nation faces evolving security challenges and the persistent threat of terrorism.
“The EOD-CBRN Unit remains a vital arm in the fight against terrorism and unconventional threats to public safety. The commissioning of these vehicles underscores the Inspector General’s transformational leadership and vision for a modern, responsive, and technologically advanced Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.
The coalition further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s support for the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the successful delivery of these operational assets would not have been possible without the federal government’s firm resolve to ensure the police are well-equipped to safeguard lives and property.
“The commitment of President Tinubu to strengthening our security institutions is commendable. We urge the President to continue to provide the necessary support to the IGP and his team to actualise the vision of a 21st-century policing system in Nigeria,” Comrade Johnson said.
The coalition also urged IGP Egbetokun to remain resolute in his pursuit of reforming the force into one that meets the aspirations of Nigerians and aligns with global best practices.
“This is a new era for the Nigeria Police Force, and we are confident that with sustained leadership, investment, and public support, the force will rise to become one of the most effective and trusted institutions in our democracy,” the statement concluded.
