Egbetokun Not In Office To Rig 2027 Election, SWYA Hits Back At Activist

…… Says IGP Egbetokun is a non-partisan police officer

The South West Youth Alliance has knocked a self-acclaimed Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, for his recent reckless and malicious actions against the father of police professionalism, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

According to a press release on Thursday in Abuja signed by the Publicity Secretary of THE SWYA, Adenike Ajanlekoko, she reminded Omoyele Sowore that Section 18(8A) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 allows the Inspector-General of Police to serve a four-year term, regardless of the general retirement provisions of 35 years of service or 60 years of age.

“This amendment clarifies that the IGP’s tenure is determined by the appointment letter, not the general retirement rules.

“We strongly agreed with IGP Egbetokun that those hiding under the cloak of the act of activism to distort the work and demoralise police officers will face the wrought of the law soon, Ajanlekoko said.

“IGP Egbetokun is the Inspector General of Police and not INEC Chairman, so we wondered what concerns him with the 2027 election outcome other than offering comprehensive, water-tight and round-the-clock security for all INEC offices and facilities nationwide.

“It is on record that the Inspector General of Police, on many occasions, has assured Nigerians of the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to deliver on its mandate of providing a safe and enabling environment for the conduct of the general election.

“He has not relented on his commitment to the Force to providing a level playing field for all political actors, while remaining professional and apolitical in the discharge of its responsibilities, the statement concluded
