Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament Scouting And Screening Programme Begins

The Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament scouting and screening programme has begun in Yenagoa, the state capital, with over 200 players from the tournament seeking to unleash their potential.

The exercise is intended to identify outstanding young footballers between the ages of 16 and 21 years across Bayelsa State to participate in various post Prosperity Cup local and international scouting programmes, which provide another opportunity to discover future superstars in the state

Speaking shortly after day two of the programme, Rev. Vincent Dowell, Head of Community Relations and Governmental Affairs at Prosperity Cup and coordinator of the scouting programme, said he was impressed with the turnout of players, urging them to give their best.

He noted with a strong sense of conviction that with the quality of football displayed by the lads, more Precious Benjamins would be discovered at the end of the various scouting programmes.

Former Bayelsa United Technical Adviser Diepreye Teibowei, who is among the technocrats conducting the ongoing exercise, observed that the exercise was gradually taking its original shape, adding that they have fixed friendly matches for Friday, 6th June, 2025, in order to ascertain the levels of progress made so far.

The former Julius Berger FC star explained that they were taking their time to select the best among the invited players for the exercise, pointing out that he has spotted a few players that could be featured in the colours of Bayelsa United and other league sides across the country.

Another member of the coaching crew supervising the event, Ada Gwegwe, expressed confidence that the screening would produce its desired result at the end, urging all the invited players to see Benjamin Precious, who plies his trade in Germany, as their role model.

Two players, Onuoha Emmanuel of Federal University Otuoke and Uduak Joel of Bayelsa United Feeders, appreciated the organisers of the tournament for giving them the platform to excel.

The Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament scouting and screening programme will end on Saturday, 7th June 2025.
