CP Moshood Jimoh Never Threatened Peaceful Protesters; SWYA Responds To YRC

The South West Youth Alliance has condemned the Youth Rights Campaign for falsely accusing the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, of threatening peaceful protesters and colluding with the All Progressives Congress to disrupt the June 12 demonstration in Lagos.

In response to a publication in Sahara Reporters titled, “‘I Will Smoke You All’: Lagos Police Commissioner Moshood Jimoh Accused of Threatening Peaceful June 12 Protesters,” the Publicity Director of the Alliance, Adenike Ajanlekoko, stated that the Youth Rights Campaign, out of frustration, falsely accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, as no smoke was fired before, during, or after the protest.

“CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh is an exemplary and impartial police officer. Unfortunately, the Youth Rights Campaign has accused him of having allegiance to the APC. We understand their frustration, as their protest failed even before it began, Ajanlekoko stated.

“CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh is a professional and high-ranking police officer who would never engage in a confrontation with anyone, let alone a so-called YRC National Secretary, Francis Nwapa.

Ajanlekoko further condemned the YRC allegations, which claimed that the Commissioner deployed officers to monitor the civil society protesters. Meanwhile, members of the APC—reportedly mobilised by party chairman Best Nze-Jombo—were allowed to obstruct roads directly across from the protesters without any intervention.

The entire protests, both pro-government and anti-government, were provided with the same level of adequate security, as evidenced by all media outlets that monitored the events.

“We boldly assert that CP Moshood Jimoh possesses exceptional ability and integrity as an impartial police officer, fully capable of maintaining law and order in Lagos State.

In conclusion, we demand a public apology from the Youth Rights Campaign for falsely accusing the CP of threatening peaceful protesters and for alleging his alliance with the APC and its supporters.
