Nigeria Needs Honest Leaders To Develop, Says GOTN

To build leadership training facilities throughout Nigeria, Guardians of the Nation International (GOTNI) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have inked a memorandum of agreement.

The initiative is designed to address the pressing need for ethical and transformational leadership among the country’s youth.

The announcement was made by GOTNI Founder, Dr Linus Okorie, during the unveiling of the organisation’s new Executive Director, Miss Remarkable Akpan, in Abuja.

Dr Okorie stated, “Our goal is to instil integrity, purpose, and excellence in the next generation of leaders who will shape Nigeria’s future.”

According to him, the organisation aims to expand its national footprint and nurture a new generation of leaders committed to ethical governance and systemic change.

Miss Akpan, who was appointed following an extensive search launched in August 2024, emphasised the importance of internal leadership qualities and ethical conduct.

“My goal is to inspire a new generation of young people who can think proactively and intentionally about how they can position themselves as problem-solvers across various sectors,” she said.

Akpan’s leadership journey began at the age of 15, when she founded the Mary Remarkable Foundation, which supports out-of-school children and delivers humanitarian aid in rural communities. Among her notable projects is the donation of a borehole to Edonwik Village in Akwa Ibom State, providing clean water to over 300 people for the first time in a century.

In 2022, she launched the ForHer Organisation, an initiative aimed at empowering girls in high-risk communities through skills acquisition and gender equality programmes.

Akpan has also worked with social impact organisations in the UK, including Crisis UK and Centrepoint, where she developed tailored support plans for vulnerable youth, including refugees.

Commenting on her appointment, Akpan said, “Since the age of 15, I have been passionately involved in initiatives that promote individual wellbeing, empower young people, and contribute to nation-building. Nigeria and Africa are at a critical point where we urgently need transformational leaders who embody vision, purpose, and integrity
