Alleged N151m Extortion: IGP Will Ensure Justice In Police Orderly Room Trial, Says SWYA

The South West Youth Alliance has assured Nigerians that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, will ensure justice as Nigerians await the outcome of the orderly room trial of four police inspectors accused of extorting N151 million from the family of a foreign-based Nigerian after whisking him from Lagos to Abuja.

Responding to a publication in the Daily Post titled “Alleged N151m extortion: IGP asked to ensure justice in police orderly room trial”, the Publicity Director of the Alliance, Adenike Ajanlekoko, said that it is on record that IGP Egbetokun swiftly initiated that the case be investigated and the police officers made to face an orderly room trial if a prima facie case is established against them.

“It is on record that the IGP is always expressing strong concerns over reports of extortion and high-handedness by some members of the Nigeria Police Force. He has not relented in emphasising the need for police officers to maintain the highest standards of professional conduct, Ajanlekoko said.

“As part of his vision to tackle these unethical practices, the IGP ordered specialised units, including the IGP X-Squad, the Monitoring Unit, and the Complaint Response Unit, to intensify their oversight functions.

“Disciplinary actions have been taken against many officers found guilty of misconduct, while the supervisory officers who failed in their duties were held accountable, so the IGP will not spare the officers involved in the case of the alleged N151m extortion if found guilty.

Ajanlekoko stated that the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, under IGP Kayode Egbetokun, will not tolerate any form of corruption and is urging citizens to cooperate in ensuring a corruption-free police force.
