The South West Youth Alliance has criticised Sahara Reporters for tarnishing the reputation of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
In response to an article titled “Notorious Abuja Land Grabber Once Allegedly Shielded By IGP Egbetokun Arraigned By EFCC Over ₦500Million Scam, Remanded In Prison”, the Alliance’s Publicity Director, Adenike Ajanlekoko, asserted that the Inspector General of Police is a fair man who would never protect anyone, regardless of their societal status.
“It is completely untrue that the Inspector General of Police is protecting Mrs. Godwin-Isaac Rebecca Omokamo, also known as Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu.
“It is regrettable that, despite the consistent denials regarding any association between the IGP and Bilikisu by the Force spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Sahara Reporters continues to link the IGP to her.
Adenike Ajanlekoko additionally urged Sahara Reporters to present solid proof that IGP Kayode Egbetokun is offering any official protection to Bilikisu.
“We deem this claim from the repeatedly misleading outlet, Sahara Reporters, to be a calculated and malicious effort to tarnish the name of IGP Kayode Egbetokun in a situation he is not involved in.
“We question how the disreputable outlet Sahara Reporters could assert that the IGP is using his office to shield Mrs. Godwin-Isaac Rebecca Omokamo, also known as Bilikisu Ishaku Aliyu, from being apprehended and investigated.
“If the IGP has been providing her with protection, how is it that the same Sahara Reporters reported her arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)?
“In closing, Inspector General of Police, IGP Egbetokun, does not meddle in ongoing investigations or courts; hence we call on Sahara Reporters and its affiliates to halt their defamation of the reputation of the Inspector General of Police,” Ajanlekoko concluded.
