Labour Party Denies Expulsion Plot Against Peter Obi, Labels Alleged Conveners “Political Impostors”

The Labour Party has dismissed as “laughable and illegal” the claims by a group it described as political impostors allegedly planning to expel Mr Peter Obi from the party.

In a statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Acting National Chairman of the Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party said it has become aware of a “kangaroo meeting” being orchestrated by individuals unknown to the party, with the aim of sowing confusion within its ranks and sabotaging the coalition efforts currently involving Mr Obi.

“These impostors, acting on behalf of shadowy interests, intend to purport an expulsion of Mr Obi from the Labour Party—a move as laughable as it is illegal,” the statement read.

The Party reaffirmed its unwavering support for Peter Obi’s participation in the ongoing coalition-building process, emphasising that a public statement issued on May 25, 2025, already affirmed the leadership’s full endorsement of his role in the talks.

“The media and the general public are hereby enjoined to ignore these comedians of politics who are merely performing for their paymasters,” Asogwa added, noting that their influence hinges solely on attacking Mr. Obi and will vanish once he officially joins the new political platform being discussed.

Citing a Supreme Court judgement delivered on April 4, 2025, the Party stated that the tenure of the individuals behind the purported meeting had already expired, stripping them of any legal or moral right to speak or act on behalf of the Labour Party.

Asogwa urged journalists and the public to rely solely on official communication from the office of the Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, for authentic information concerning the Party’s affairs.

“This latest drama should be rightly seen for what it is: the desperate last kick of a dying horse,” the statement concluded.
