IGP Flags Off Second Phase Of PROs Training On Social And Behavioural Change Communication, GBV Prevention In Lagos

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has declared open the second phase of specialized training for Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) on Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) and strategies for preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

According to a press release on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the initiative, organized in partnership with the CLEEN Foundation, is being held in Ikeja, Lagos State, from Monday, July 8, to Thursday, July 10, 2025. It follows the successful completion of the first phase of the training, which took place in Kaduna State from June 24 to 26, 2025.

Represented by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Oluhundare Jimoh Moshood, the IGP highlighted the importance of strategic communication in modern policing. He underscored the need for effective public engagement, transparency, and trust-building between the police and the communities they serve.

“This training is both timely and essential. It equips our Public Relations Officers with the tools to counter misinformation, manage public perception, and communicate with empathy and effectiveness,” said the IGP. “Beyond operational competence, our officers must master communication techniques that foster accountability and professionalism.”

The Lagos session brings together PPROs from across the southern region of the country, with a curriculum focusing on audience analysis, persuasive messaging, behaviour change strategies, digital media utilization, and community engagement.

The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to citizen-focused and proactive policing through continuous capacity development and collaborative efforts aimed at improving communication with the public.
