Police Foil Bandits’ Attack In Benue, Recover AK-47 Rifle

The Benue State Police Command has successfully thwarted an armed robbery operation by suspected bandits along the Kendev–Zaki Biam road in the Sankera region, recovering an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition in the process.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the operation followed credible intelligence received around 1343hrs on July 11, 2025, indicating that bandits were actively robbing villagers in the area.

Acting swiftly, the police deployed patrol and tactical units to the scene, where they engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle.

One of the bandits, identified as Awase Ankyunyo, also known as “Abi Doka,” sustained fatal injuries during the shootout and was later confirmed dead at the hospital. The remaining suspects fled toward the Chito axis with gunshot wounds.

The Commissioner of Police praised the officers for their courage and rapid response, reiterating the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
