…..Urges Students to Utilize Initiative for Enhanced Safety

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has applauded the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for its recent launch of 24/7 Emergency Response Centres aimed at swiftly addressing school-related security threats across the country. The initiative, spearheaded by the National Coordinator of the Schools Protection Squad (SPS), CP Abayomi Shogunle, is a major step forward in ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and educational facilities nationwide.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum held in Ibadan, Oyo State, NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, hailed the development as a timely and strategic move aligned with the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative and the Renewed Hope Agenda. He praised the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, for his visionary leadership and commitment to transforming schools into safe zones for learning and growth.

“The establishment of these centres is a bold statement that the lives and education of Nigerian students matter,” said Oladoja. “This initiative sends a strong message to those who threaten our learning environments that their actions will not go unchecked.”

The emergency centres, accessible round-the-clock via the dedicated line 08077357777, are part of a broader security framework that includes the deployment of the SPS, modern surveillance technologies such as CCTV and drones, and close collaboration with other security agencies, educational institutions, and local communities.

NANS called on students across the country to actively engage with the initiative by reporting suspicious activities, participating in safety awareness campaigns, and working hand-in-hand with school authorities and law enforcement to strengthen security in and around campuses.

“This is not just a policing initiative—it is a national effort to protect the future of our country,” Oladoja added. “Students must remain alert and cooperative to make this intervention a success.”

NANS reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to advocating for policies and programs that enhance student welfare and ensure access to uninterrupted, quality education in a secure environment.
