IGP Egbetokun Commiserates with FG, Buhari Family Over Former President’s Demise, Attends Burial With Dignitaries

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force to the Federal Government, the government and people of Katsina State, and the family of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, following his passing.

According to a press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, he described the death of the former leader as a “monumental national loss,” the IGP lauded Buhari’s unwavering dedication, courage, and integrity in service to Nigeria — both as a former military ruler and as a two-term democratically elected President. He praised Buhari’s enduring legacy of discipline, patriotism, and selfless leadership.

In a show of respect and solidarity, IGP Egbetokun led a delegation of senior police officers to Daura, Katsina State, to attend the burial rites, conducted according to Islamic tradition. The solemn ceremony was attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside an array of dignitaries including top government officials, traditional rulers, and political leaders from across the nation.

The Nigeria Police Force joins the nation in mourning the elder statesman and prays for the peaceful repose of his soul. The IGP further urged Nigerians to honour the former President’s memory by embracing the principles of accountability, discipline, and national unity that defined his life and leadership.
