The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has pledged the support of the Nigeria Police Force for a new federal housing initiative aimed at improving the welfare of police officers across the country.
According to a press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he proposed a strategic partnership with the Police for the establishment of a National Task Force to protect federal lands and assets.
The minister, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib M. L. Belgore, and senior ministry officials, said the task force would address the growing problem of encroachment on federal government lands — a challenge that has stalled key national development projects.
He further disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark housing programme that will deliver thousands of affordable housing units to police personnel nationwide. Commending the Police for its professionalism and resilience, the minister said the initiative would not only improve the welfare of officers but also boost their efficiency in safeguarding lives and property.
In response, IGP Egbetokun welcomed the initiative, describing the housing project as a timely intervention that addresses one of the most pressing welfare needs of police officers. He reiterated that welfare is central to operational effectiveness and assured the ministry of the Force’s full collaboration in implementing the housing scheme and the proposed task force.
“The recovery and protection of encroached federal government lands is a matter of urgent national importance, and the Police will give its full support to ensure its success,” the IGP said.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, excellence, and service to the nation, while making the welfare of its officers a top priority.
