Integrity Youth Alliance Faults Sahara Reporters Over Court Confusion Claim

The Integrity Youth Alliance has dismissed as misleading a publication by Sahara Reporters which alleged that Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, attempted to throw the Federal High Court into confusion by filing processes before two vacation judges in Abuja.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Danjuma Lamido, the group described the report titled “IGP Egbetokun Throws Federal High Court Into Confusion As Two Vacation Judges Hear Separate Cases Against Sowore Simultaneously” as mischievous and aimed at undermining both the judiciary and the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the group, there is no confusion in the Federal High Court concerning cases involving activist Omoyele Sowore. It noted that Justice Emeka Nwite recently granted an ex parte application by the police for substituted service of a criminal summons against Sahara Reporters, a development it said clearly showed that due process was being followed.

The Alliance further emphasized the competence of the Nigeria Police legal department, which was recently upgraded to a Directorate of Legal Services in recognition of its professionalism and diligence.

It stressed that Sahara Reporters’ allegation that the police leadership sought to create confusion in the courts was unfounded and a gross misrepresentation of facts.

“The publication is a clear attempt to mislead the public and erode trust in the judiciary,” Lamido stated, urging members of the public to disregard such narratives and calling on Sahara Reporters to desist from publishing falsehoods capable of inciting disaffection.
