Murder Of ARISE TV Journalist Resonates As 30 Senior Police Officers Face PSC Promotion Interview

The tragic killing of ARISE Television journalist, Ms Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, reverberated on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, as 30 senior police officers appeared before the Police Service Commission (PSC) for mandatory promotion interviews.

According to a press release on Tuesday, September 30th 2025 signed by the PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the officers, who had sat for the promotion examination on Monday, September 29, were grilled by the PSC Board on strategies to tackle violent crimes, with emphasis on how to curb avoidable incidents such as the killing of Ms. Maduagwu.

The Commission expressed deep concern over rising cases of killings, kidnappings, and armed robberies across the country, charging the officers to demonstrate greater vigilance, professionalism, and commitment in the discharge of their duties.

Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, mni, led the interview panel, which comprised Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd, fdc), Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (rtd), Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd), and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

DIG Argungu reiterated that the PSC would continue to hold the Nigeria Police Force accountable for its actions and inactions, insisting on “undiluted loyalty and respect for human dignity” from officers. He commended the unity of the Board in pursuing a truly efficient and effective Police Force, pledging that the Commission remained resolute in ensuring that the fight against crime and criminality is won in no distant time.
