The October 1, 2025, video released by Isaiah Davis Ijele has shed fresh light on the dark undercurrents within the Nigerian Police Force.
More importantly, it has unmasked former Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba as one of the forces behind the sustained campaign of calumny against the current Inspector General, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The revelations are damning. Information at our disposal indicates that IGP Usman Alkali Baba has, since leaving office, continued to manipulate the internal and external structures of the police through his stranglehold on contracts and procurement channels.
Using his connections in the National Assembly, Alkali is said to have hijacked the bulk of police contracts, deliberately shutting out IGP Egbetokun from exercising legitimate control over major resources of the institution he currently heads.
This is not only a brazen affront to the office of the IGP but also a deliberate attempt to weaken Egbetokun’s administration.
Worse still, reports reveal that a significant portion of police funds was diverted to Alkali’s private interests, particularly his car sales outlets on Gimbya Street, Area 11, Abuja, and in Kaduna State.
His children, during his tenure as IGP, allegedly took over the procurement department, turning it into their personal empire, diverting contracts and jobs meant for Nigerians to themselves and their cronies.
The culture of corruption that thrived under Alkali’s watch continues to haunt the police, even as he attempts to maintain a grip on the system from outside.
It is also worth noting that Alkali Baba enjoyed a close relationship with Omoyele Sowore. Reports indicate that Sowore was financially linked to Baba during his tenure as IGP, a development that sheds light on the curious alignment of Sowore’s public statements and the smear campaigns directed against IGP Egbetokun.
Their partnership was not built on reform but on shared interests in undermining structures that did not align with their agenda.
In sharp contrast, the achievements of IGP Kayode Egbetokun since assuming office are glaring, progressive, and undeniable.
He has ushered in the most far-reaching promotion exercise in the history of the Nigeria Police Force, uplifting over 100,000 personnel. He has digitalised operations within the force, upgraded the medical and legal units to full Directorates, and cleared a staggering ₦24 billion backlog of insurance and welfare claims for families of fallen officers, restoring dignity and hope to countless police households.
IGP Egbetokun’s focus on officer welfare, professionalism, and systemic reform speaks volumes about his vision for the future of policing in Nigeria. His administration has chosen service delivery over personal enrichment, institutional growth over nepotism, and digital transformation over outdated analog practices.
The contrast between Baba’s legacy and Egbetokun’s leadership could not be starker. While Baba clings to power through manipulation and the diversion of public resources, Egbetokun is building a police force that Nigerians can trust and respect.
Isaiah Ijele’s video is not just a revelation; it is a reminder to Nigerians that the battle for the soul of our police force is ongoing.
We must not allow vested interests and disgraced former leaders to derail the reforms and progress currently underway.
The time has come to support IGP Egbetokun in his quest to redefine the Nigeria Police Force, free it from corrupt influences, and secure its place as a true guardian of justice and order in our nation.
