Police Launch Nationwide POCACOV Road Walk To Promote Peace, Prevent Crime During Festive Season

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) initiative, launched a nationwide road walk and public sensitisation campaign on December 19, 2025, aimed at promoting peace and curbing crime during the festive season.

The campaign, themed “Promoting Peace, Preventing Crime This Christmas,” saw police officers across all state commands take to major streets, markets, motor parks, schools, and community centres to engage residents and raise awareness on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, violence, and other social vices that often spike during festive periods.

Across the country, officers interacted directly with youths, community leaders, traders, transport workers, and other members of the public, emphasising the importance of peaceful coexistence, law-abiding conduct, and collective responsibility in ensuring a safe environment throughout the Christmas celebrations and beyond.

Speaking on the initiative, police authorities said the nationwide road walk underscores the Force’s commitment to proactive and preventive policing, rather than reactive law enforcement. They noted that POCACOV remains a key platform for engaging young people and vulnerable groups, steering them away from crime through education, mentorship, and positive engagement.

The sensitisation campaign also encouraged parents, guardians, and community stakeholders to play active roles in guiding youths against involvement in cult-related activities and other vices, while urging citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.

According to the Police, the initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to deepen community trust, strengthen police, citizen relations, and sustain peace and security across the country, especially during periods associated with increased social activities.

The NPF reaffirmed its determination to ensure that Nigerians enjoy a peaceful, safe, and crime-free Christmas season, assuring the public of its readiness to maintain law and order before, during, and after the festivities through sustained engagement and visible policing nationwide.
