A Call For A New Order

By Kenneth Okonkwo

To my countrymen,

We must be alert to the inevitability of fashioning out a new order going forward. It’s gratifying to witness in our lifetime, the continual insistence of this new generation, particularly the youths, on doing the right thing that will bring about the birth of a great Nigeria. It’s a worthy project that should elicit the support of every well-meaning Nigerian.

In this direction, it’s obvious that the two major political parties, APC and PDP, have failed to position Nigeria towards movement in the right direction. It’s quite concerning that these kakistocrats and kleptocrats have even groomed worse successors to succeed them, dashing all hopes that tomorrow under them might be better. It has become quite clear that only a new order can fundamentally uproot these incompetent and corrupt leaders from our leadership structure.

In pursuit of this vision, I implore every Nigerian, particularly the youth, to reject corruption and incompetence wherever they are and let everyone start becoming the example he or she wants to see in others. In realization of this aim, I also recommend that we must give up all our earlier cleavages around ethnicity, religion, etc, and see them for what they are – tools in the hands of these leaders to manipulate us. We must live up to the true meaning of our creed – though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand.

We must also realise that what worked in 2023 may not work in 2027 and render our hearts free and receptive to new initiatives and ideas. It is in this regard that I want to officially suggest that the Obidient movement, which we rode on in 2023, should be modified or rested to allow for new alignment and alliances in search of a new order. It’s no secret that the Obidient movement is not a political party or an association but an organic movement without an identifiable structure and leadership. This amorphous nature of the movement renders it susceptible to the manipulation of every sinister person, including even the ruling party, and other politicians who may use pseudonyms or anonymous handles to be insulting people unnecessarily for even expressing their fundamental freedoms of association and expression. I do not believe that all those people who insult other people in the name of Obidients are truly Obidients. Unfortunately, there’s no way one can verify this because even some very well-known Obidients operate under pseudonyms.

Henceforth, and in the quest for a new order, I want to respectfully state that whatever I do or say should not be attributed to Obidients and I bear no responsibility for any statement or action said or done under the acronym – The Obidients. This is because these corrupt leaders are now using the acronym to divide us. We must stick together as Nigerians to resist any evil leadership that these corrupt leaders want to foist on us.

We should look forward to using our energies to form a new political alliance which should snowball into a formidable political party, and which should be able to take over power from these clueless, corrupt, and divisive agents calling themselves politicians, because, although they have expired, without legitimate alternatives, emerging from formidable political platforms, these leaders will continue to foist their corrupt agenda on all of us.

May we not give up on this struggle for a great Nigeria

Yours truly,
Kenneth Okonkwo
