Prosperity Cup Tournament’s highest-scoring team, Agbere FC on Sunday, March 23, 2025, faced its biggest test yet in the tournament when Akeddei FC put up a spirited fight, holding them to a one-all stalemate in regulation time.

Playing at the Sagbama Town Centre, the season five bronze medallists had to dig deep to win the resultant spot kicks 5-3 to advance.

Pedimo Ebimos put Akeddei FC ahead at just two minutes into the game from a beautiful finish, but Agbere FC responded on 43 minutes from Anny Godfrey’s brilliant effort to stretch the encounter into penalties, having scored fifteen goals in their last two games.

And, at the Ebedebiri venue, Indomitable FC pipped Angalabiri FC by a slim lone goal to secure passage to the next phase of the tournament. Kelvin Emmanuel’s 56th-minute goal gave the Indomitable FC the victory.

Playing at their familiar Ekeremor fortress, Krusaders FC of Peretorugbene edged out Samba Boys FC by a goal to nil. Wisdom Michael’s 9th-minute goal was all they needed to qualify for the next round of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football fiesta.

Jamaica FC beat Unmerciful FC of Otuaba by two goals to one at the Ogbia Centre. Samuel Izibebemeze put the Otuaba-based side ahead in 43 minutes, Captain for the side, Favour doubled their lead from a long-range shot in 50 minutes, while the Unmerciful FC side got their consolation goal in stoppage time.

Otuokpain FC beat Ayalla FC of Okiki 4-3 on penalties after a one-all draw in normal time. Kuku scored for Otuokpain on 40 minutes while the Okiki side levelled up on 85 minutes through Agala Godgift to stretch the game into a penalty shootout at the Otuokpoti centre.

The Otuokpoti Centre also witnessed the biggest upset so far in the tournament with little-known Austonee Ultimate FC overcoming 2023 semi-finalist, Anyama FC by three goals to one on penalties after a barren draw in regulation time.

Elsewhere at the Imiringi centre, Malcom FC pipped Ewoi FC by two goals to one to secure qualification to the next round of the competition. Minadom Daniel gave Malcom FC the lead on 27 minutes, while Emmanuel Frank drew level for Ewoi FC. Hope Naldo sealed victory for Malcom FC with an 81st-minute strike.

Competing at the Otuasega Centre, Federal University, Otuoke humbled Hummel Stars FC of Otuokpoti by four goals to two. Alama Philip opened the scoring for the Federal University lads in twelve minutes, Bolomiebi Daniel levelled the scores on 45 minutes while Kaka Ebiowei made it two – one in 55 minutes.

Hummel Stars FC reduced the deficit on 67 minutes from Dressman Blessing’s first touch. Substitute Prezi Joy increased the tally to four late in the encounter to end Hummel Stars FC’s campaign in the tournament. 4 – 1, it ended in favour of Federal University, Otuoke

In the day’s last fixture from the Otuasega Centre, the Redeemed Chapel FC annihilated Nigerian Immigrations FC by three goals to one, with Nathaniel Bassey as the hero of the game, scoring a brace to help his youthful Redeemed Chapel FC to advance.

At the Agge centre, Youbolobo FC triumphed one nil over Solomon FC while Orobiri FC overpowered Amatu FC also by a solitary goal to qualify for the next phase of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament tagged the Prosperity Cup.

The action continues on Monday at the Amassoma and the Otuasega centres in Southern Ijaw and Ogbia Local Government Areas. NDU Oilers FC will take on Selected Stars at 1.00 pm while Kolary FC will face Saturday FC at 3.00 pm.

Elebele FC will square up against Otuoke FC by 1.00 pm just as Great Spencer welcomes George Turnah FC at 3.00 pm at the Otuasega Centre.
