Alliance Writes IGP Egbetokun; Says AIG Idowu Owohunwa Must Proceed On Retirement

The Integrity Youth Alliance, an organisation that has been monitoring the development trends in the Nigeria Police Force for over 15 years, has called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, to ensure that AIG Idowu Owohunwa proceeds on retirement with immediate effect.

According to a press release on Sunday, 22nd December 2024, signed by the publicity secretary of the alliance, Danjuma Lamido, it was said that investigations have revealed that AIG Idowu Owohunna adjusted his year of service 7 years backwards to remain in the Nigeria Police Force.

“Our investigation revealed that AIG Idowu Owohunwa allegedly adjusted his year of service 7 years backwards, and two panels set up to probe the adjustment indicted the AIG.

“Information at our disposal indicates that the AIG has been boasting that he has the support of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, to remain in office for an extra seven years, the statement said.

The Alliance said that since the law is very clear on the consequence of any alteration or fabrication intended to pass as genuine, it constitutes a forgery under Nigerian law. Therefore, AIG Idowu Owohunwa should face the penalties for forgery, as Section 364 of the Criminal Code has prescribed a maximum sentence of 14 years imprisonment.

“The retirement age for civil servants in Nigeria is 60 years old or after 35 years of service, whichever comes first. This is outlined in Rule 020810 of the Public Service Rules (PSR).

“We, therefore, give the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, a 7-day ultimatum to ensure that AIG Idowu Owohunwa proceeds on retirement immediately to avoid a crisis among his coursemates and the Nigeria police at large.

“We sincerely hope that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, as a man of paragon of integrity and professionalism, will not condone fraudulent activities in the Nigeria Police.

“IGP Kayode Egbetokun is a man whose dedication to the principles of justice, peace, and security has left an indelible mark; therefore, we are watching his actions on the allegations against AIG Idowu Owohunwa, the statement said.
