Anambra Governorship Election: PSC Deploys Staff Monitors

…. Argungu W.arns Police Against Misconduct

As Anambra State prepares for Saturday’s governorship election, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed staff monitors across the three senatorial zones of the state to oversee police conduct during the polls.

The National Coordinator and Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), mni, issued a stern warning to police officers assigned to electoral duties, urging them to maintain a high level of impartiality, professionalism, and discipline throughout the exercise.

Argungu emphasized that police personnel must ensure the safety of electoral officers and materials while creating a conducive environment for voters to freely exercise their franchise. He cautioned that any officer found compromising the rules of engagement would face disciplinary action.

“The Anambra election should serve as a test case for the Nigeria Police Force ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Argungu stated, adding that the Commission would commend officers who display professionalism and sanction those who fail to uphold the standards of the service.

The PSC Chairman commended the preparedness of the Anambra State Police Command under Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, PhD, noting his proactive visits to all area commands and identified flashpoints as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.

PSC monitors will operate from Awka, the state capital, as well as from the three senatorial districts
