COMMENDATION FOR THE REGISTRAR OF JAMB, PROF. ISHAQ OLOYEDE, ON EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP AND INTEGRITY IN THE FACE OF CYBERSECURITY CHALLENGES
I ,write to formally commend the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for his exemplary courage and rare sense of accountability in accepting responsibility and liability for the recent issues caused by the negligence of an external consultant during the last JAMB examinations.
In a time when deflection and blame-shifting are all too common in public service, Prof. Oloyede’s conduct stands as a remarkable demonstration of integrity, transparency, and true leadership. His actions send a strong message of trust and institutional responsibility, which are critical to public confidence in our examination and educational systems.
I am also compelled to underscore the urgency and necessity of cybersecurity awareness and infrastructure in all national institutions. The digital age has ushered in not only remarkable convenience but also a surge of cyber threats — from ransomware to phishing, data breaches, identity theft, and other predatory attacks. The JAMB incident reminds us of how vulnerable even our most essential institutions are to technological lapses when cybersecurity is not given due priority.
I, therefore, urge the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies to consider cybersecurity not as a luxury but as a national imperative. Strategic investment in digital security, capacity building, and the establishment of robust protocols will help prevent future breaches and safeguard the integrity of critical systems such as JAMB.
Once again, I applaud Prof. Ishaq Oloyede for his honesty and leadership and encourage other public officers to emulate such standards in the discharge of their duties
