The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has called for calm among personnel and ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the tragic death of a police officer, Constable Ukasha Muhammed, allegedly shot by a private soldier in Bauchi.
According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command. CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident, which occurred on Friday, 10th October 2025, at about 10:35 p.m., reportedly involved a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila during a routine patrol in the Bayan Gari area of the state capital.
According to preliminary reports, Constable Muhammed was assaulted by two individuals in front of Padimo Hotel. The patrol team swiftly intervened, arresting one of the assailants while the other fled the scene.
The arrested suspect was identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346) of the Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven, Jos, Plateau State. Shortly afterward, at about 11:05 p.m., two other soldiers—Private Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Private Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654)—arrived at the scene, reportedly dressed in partial military uniform and armed with rifles. They allegedly shot Constable Muhammed in the chest before escaping.
The injured officer was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. His remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
The Commissioner of Police has since ordered an autopsy and constituted a special homicide investigation team, made up of seasoned detectives, to ensure a professional, transparent, and timely investigation aimed at uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
While expressing deep sorrow over the loss, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu condoled with the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.
“May the soul of Constable Ukasha Muhammed rest in peace, and may Almighty Allah grant his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the CP stated.
