The Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament and the Wind of Hope Foundation have joined Nigerians and the international community in celebrating former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on his 68th birthday, describing him as a peacemaker, visionary leader, and exemplary statesman.
In a congratulatory message signed by Ono K. Akpe, Director General of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament and Project Coordinator of the Wind of Hope Foundation, the organisations praised Jonathan’s enduring legacy in Nigeria and across Africa. Akpe, who also coordinated the former president’s first official biography project, noted that Jonathan’s contributions to democracy, peacebuilding, and continental diplomacy continue to command global respect.
The statement highlighted Jonathan’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s historic 2015 transition of power and his ongoing mediation efforts within ECOWAS, describing him as a bridge-builder whose leadership reflects humility, integrity, and a deep commitment to peaceful coexistence.
As Bayelsa State prepares for the 8th edition of the Bayelsa Governor’s Cup—scheduled to coincide with the state’s 30th anniversary, Akpe expressed optimism about Jonathan’s continued support for youth development, education, empowerment, and sports initiatives.
The message described the former president as a leader guided by compassion and justice, whose influence continues to inspire generations across Nigeria and beyond.
