As part of activities marking his visit and the official opening of the Bayelsa West Senatorial District office in Sagbama LGA, His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson today played host to The regent of Oporomo Kingdom, other Traditional rulers from across the senatorial district, the PDP caucus, women leaders, community development chairmen, Local Government chairmen, youth leaders, party leaders and stakeholders.

Also present at the event was the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Hon. Peter Akpe (Deputy Chief of Staff) and other top government officials.

The senator who addressed the large delegation in the Ijaw dialect, expressed great pleasure at the unwavering commitment showed by the leaders as well as the support he as an individual enjoyed and continues to enjoy from the people.

Senator Dickson thanked all the leaders and people of the district for their efforts during his senatorial elections where he was declared unanimously as the prefered (unopposed) candidate and won a great victory at the polls.

He assured his people that his task was to represent them at the national assembly and they have already started witnessing it.

He said that his assignment at the national assembly extends beyond the district to the entire ijaw nation and used the medium to express his commitment to his people on the subject of constitutional review which he is constantly speaking about.

Senator Dickson said he believes that the constitution of Nigeria is faulty in so many ways like the way the mineral rights of the people of the Niger Delta was taken away from them without any form of consultation or agreement.

Another flaw he pointed out in the constitution is with respect to the role of traditional rulers. The constitution he said, must give the traditional rulers in Nigeria, their rightful constitutional role as Nigeria is a nation of ethnic nationalities and traditional rulers are the original owners of Nigeria which is why he accords them their deserved recognition.

In closing, Senator Dickson thanked the leaders profusely for their support and urged them to continue to support the government as well as collaborate with the security agencies to maintain peace, law and order in all the communities.

He promised that they would all see the dividends of the confidence reposed on him.
