Benue State Police Command has confirmed its readiness for the 2023 General Elections.
According to a press release signed by the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Anene Sewuese Catherine said that after a series of pre-election workshops, election security management training, stakeholder engagements, and combat drills, the Benue State Police Commissioner, CP Wale Abass announced the command’s preparedness for the forthcoming general elections.
She further said that the police commissioner stated that as the lead security agency for internal security in the state, the command, under his watch, has been able to liaise with other security agencies to assess strengths, challenges, and threats and plan toward allocating available resources and assets to successfully manage the electoral process in the state.
The CP warned that miscreants who will try to truncate efforts made to ensure a successful election will not be handled with levity during this period while ordering the arraignment of forty-two suspects arrested during the cult clash at Gboko Local Government Area on Wednesday, February 14, 2023.
He called on parents and guardians to warn their children or wards to desist from being used for election violence. The electorate is also advised to perform their civic duties without fear of any kind.
The CP also directed all police officers to be guided by extant laws, rules, and regulations as well as standard norms and practices as summarized in the Revised Standard Operational Guidelines and Rules for Police Officers and Other Law Enforcement Agents on Election Duties, a handbook produced by the Force and issued to every police officer.
The CP emphasized the need for police officers to be apolitical.
