NDLEA Clarifies Position On Cannabis Oil Export Report

….. Says its statement is only an opinion and not an FG approval yet

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has clarified that the statement of its Chairman/Chief Executive Officer at a workshop organised by the Nigerian Academy of Science on the prospect of cannabis oil export was merely his opinion and not an announcement of the Federal Government’s position on the issue yet.

Chairman/CEO of the Agency Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) had in his remarks as one of the guests at the workshop themed “Cannabis Oil Debate: The Path Forward for Nigeria”, organized by the Nigerian Academy of Science in Abuja on Wednesday 8th October 2025, disclosed that the NDLEA is not averse to the idea of exporting cannabis oil to other countries who desire it for the sole aim of generating foreign exchange earnings for Nigeria while maintaining its opposition to its local use due to the position of the extant law on such and the already high prevalence of drug abuse in the country.

It is important to note that the Agency’s position was one of the many opinions canvassed by various stakeholders invited to address the workshop and should not be seen as the Federal Government’s approval of the position yet, especially since the Agency commissioned the ongoing study on cannabis oil by the Nigerian Academy of Science. We can only be further guided on this matter by the final recommendations of NAS, which will eventually be submitted to the Federal Government as part ofthe  inputs that will be used to develop an informed policy on the subject.

This clarification is needed to avoid misrepresentations and suggestions that the Agency has approved cannabis oil export, a decision that can only be taken by the Federal Government after considering inputs from various stakeholders.

According to a press release signed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the Command seized the opportunity of the global celebration to express appreciation to residents of Delta State for their unwavering support in the fight against crime and criminality. During the outreach, police officers distributed souvenirs to road users, market women, parents, and youths in recognition of their continued cooperation with the Police in ensuring safety and security across communities.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration with citizens, the Command emphasised that effective policing thrives on strong partnerships with the public, noting that Deltans’ trust and support have significantly contributed to recorded successes in crime prevention and control.

Similar outreach events were conducted in Ughelli, Warri, Sapele, and other parts of the state, where officers presented gift items, books, and educational materials to residents as well as pupils and students of primary and secondary schools.

In his goodwill message, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, described the initiative as a non-kinetic approach to crime fighting, aimed at strengthening police–community relations. He assured that the Command would sustain such engagements to further bridge the gap between the Police and the public, fostering mutual trust and cooperation for a safer Delta State.

Honourable Wole Oke And The Israeli Lobby: A Question Of Loyalty And National Interest

0

By John Akande (Kali)

“Loyalty to foreign lobbies is treachery to national interest”

In an era when foreign influence has become the new frontier of modern geopolitics, Nigeria must guard its sovereignty with vigilance. The quiet infiltration of foreign lobbying and disinformation networks has reached alarming levels globally, and Israel has emerged as one of the most aggressive players in this new information battleground. Recent reports and observations of Honourable Wole Oke, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, engaging closely with Israeli diplomats, therefore raise troubling questions about where national loyalty begins and where foreign agendas intrude.

Israel’s strategic communications networks have long extended beyond conventional diplomacy. Across Europe, the United States, and Africa, Tel Aviv has invested heavily in influence operations, funding think tanks, online campaigns, and political proxies to push narratives that align with its foreign policy objectives. From normalisation efforts in the Middle East to countering pro-Palestinian solidarity in Africa, Israel has sought to shape political attitudes through selective partnerships, soft diplomacy, and targeted elite engagement.

In this context, any Nigerian public official cultivating unusually close ties with Israeli diplomats must be viewed through the lens of strategic caution. Nigeria’s foreign policy, anchored historically on justice, non-alignment, and African solidarity, stands at odds with Israel’s aggressive lobbying strategies, particularly as Gaza continues to bleed and international consensus calls for restraint and accountability.

Hon. Wole Oke’s recent interactions with Israeli officials led my Amb Michael Freeman have not gone unnoticed within diplomatic circles. While parliamentary diplomacy is legitimate, the perception of alignment with a foreign agenda especially one that conflicts with Nigeria’s official positions at the United Nations and the African Union is deeply problematic.

Nigeria’s position on Palestine has remained consistent since independence: a call for a two-state solution, human rights, and international law. To be seen “hobnobbing” with Israeli envoys at a time when the world condemns Tel Aviv’s actions risks undermining the integrity of Nigeria’s diplomatic voice and emboldening those who seek to divide African consensus on issues of justice and peace.

Nigeria’s leadership in Africa has always been grounded in principled foreign policy, not transactional alliances. The nation has stood with oppressed peoples from South Africa under apartheid to Palestine under occupation guided by moral consistency rather than short-term gain. For a senior legislator to lend legitimacy to a foreign power currently accused of human rights violations and information manipulation campaigns is not only tone-deaf; it is contrary to Nigeria’s moral and diplomatic heritage.

Furthermore, as foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) becomes a recognized security threat, Nigerian lawmakers must be wary of becoming unwitting tools of external propaganda. Global reports indicate that Israel, like other powerful states, employs soft-power tactics funding conferences, media engagements, and “policy dialogues”to launder its image and reframe public discourse. Nigerian institutions must not become vessels for such operations.

Hon. Wole Oke owes Nigerians transparency. As the Chair of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, his actions must reflect Nigeria’s strategic autonomy, not the interests of any foreign capital. The National Assembly should therefore demand clarity on the nature and purpose of his engagements with Israeli officials whether they are sanctioned diplomatic exchanges or informal alignments serving undisclosed objectives.

Nigeria cannot afford ambiguity in foreign relations at a time when information warfare, disinformation, and foreign influence are shaping global politics. The line between diplomacy and manipulation is thin and in protecting that line lies the defence of national integrity.

Foreign policy is not a playground for personal connections or private influence. It is an instrument of national will. Hon. Wole Oke’s growing rapport with Israeli diplomats if unchecked risks eroding public confidence and compromising Nigeria’s carefully balanced foreign posture.

At stake is not merely one man’s reputation but Nigeria’s sovereignty and credibility in the community of nations. Our leaders must remember: loyalty to foreign lobbies is treachery to national interest.

The best performing scholarship candidate, Mr Reginald Omubo-Pepple, thanked the NDDC for allowing them to enhance their education. He pledged that the beneficiaries would do their best to be good ambassadors for the region and subsequently contribute to the development of the Niger Delta.

2027: Atiku, Nationalist Par Excellence, Not An Ethnic Bigot – Eze Tackles Presidency

0

… Portraying Him As Sectional Leader, Height Of Ignorance

…Smear Campaign Against Atiku, Jonathan, Amaechi, Obi, Infantile, Misadventure.

“…..Chief Eze finally cautioned Tinubu and his bootlickers in the media space against the gale of unwarranted attacks and sponsored blackmail against perceived individuals whose interests pose a grave threat to his alleged return in 2027.

“Such individuals like former President Jonathan, former Governor Amaechi, former Governor Obi and others are committed to projecting a common front to redeem our deteriorating economy, rebuild our wobbling health system, rebuild critical infrastructure and restore, tackle corruption and restore public confidence in government. And this will happen from 2027 with a new government….”

Renowned media czar and an erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has hit back at the Presidency over what he described as shades of deceptive media strategies carefully devised to malign the reputation of former Vice President, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, and lower his rating amongst right-thinking citizens of Nigeria, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Eze, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisted that the Presidency is deliberately ignorant of who former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is in Africa.

Chief Eze lashed out at the presidency for trying to spin out false narratives against Atiku, a man seen by many as one of Nigeria’s most detribalised nationalists, and a cerebral democrat to the core whose political dynasty spans all tribes in Nigeria.

“Even President Bola Tinubu knows that his men are dwelling on woeful propaganda and a deceitful smear campaign against a man he (Tinubu) has hailed in several fora as a true Nigerian democrat and pillar of democracy in Africa.

“If for the sake of scoring a cheap political goal, the Presidency tries to portray Atiku, one of Nigeria’s finest politicians and a political Colossus of all times as a sectional leader, what then becomes of Tinubu, their paymaster, who has carved a niche for himself as Nigeria’s number one ethnic bigot and nepotistic President, Eze queried.

“The truth is that the majority of Nigerians know between Tinubu and Atiku, who is a sectional leader. So, trying to twist an obvious fact of Tinubu being a habitual sectional leader is a case of pot calling kettle black,” Eze said.

In a statement issued to rebuff a press release ascribed to one misguided and faceless media rookie consultant, Kola Johnson, who erroneously quoted Atiku thus: “I count myself extremely lucky indeed to have had a wife from amongst this noble species of the human race, which by this token implies that the bond uniting me together with the Yoruba is aptly like the genetic bond of a family” And based on this bond the Yoruba, whether individually or collectively, have always occupied a special place in my heart and that if elected, the South-West would be central to his policymaking”, Eze said it smacks of an effort to misrepresent the values of Statesmanship which the former vice president holds dearly.

Eze said the undeniable fact that Atiku married his first wife, Titi, from the Yoruba race, doesn’t in any way change the former Vice President from the detribalized leader and nationalist he has always been.

He said the plot by the administration of Tinubu to robe Atiku in a vague tribal apparel will not have any effect as Nigerians know already that it is Mr Tinubu that is a tribal bigot and unapologetic ethnic jingoist, having his tribe unfairly favoured in all appointments and thus killing the essence true spirit of federal character, which is at the core of what holds Nigerians together as a nation.

“Such ethnocentrism and dangerous bigotry will not arise in Atiku’s Presidency”, Eze said.

“As much as it is a fact that Atiku married his first wife, Titi from the Yoruba race; and knowing how Titi has struggled with Atiku in building his socioeconomic and political empire doesn’t in any way make the former Vice President of Nigeria to change from his nationalist disposition to allowing only the Yorubas to be central in all his policies to the detriment of other regions of this country if elected the President of Nigeria come 2027” Eze stated.

“This plot by the administration of Tinubu to portray Atiku in a borrowed robe of becoming a tribalistic leader like Tinubu, who has to appoint 95 percent of his key ministers, political appointees and aides from one particular State and region, will not be the case of Atiku.

“Having known Atiku for over thirty years, right from our days in Adamawa, he has proven that he is a nationalist who considers all Nigerians as one body not minding the tribe or religion you come from or practice, Eze said.

The former member of the APC Legacy Media Team disclosed that while as the Vice President of Nigeria, all of Atiku’s appointments reflected all the sections of this country; even today, his personal physician, Dr. Azubike Ndukwu, an Igbo man has been with him for over thirty years or so.

Eze reiterated that for Tinubu and his aides to resort to sponsoring characters like Kola to write unauthorized press statements, “is shameful, unpatriotic, demeaning and a national embarrassment”.

“No matter the amount of falsehood being peddled in the public space, Tinubu, the Presidency and Nigerians know that Atiku is an institution, a detribalised nationalist, who abhors nepotism, a hallmark of this present administration, Eze posited.

“A million and one beer parlour, or rather armchair press releases will not change the obvious fact that Atiku is a true nationalist to the core, Eze submitted.

Chief Eze finally cautioned Tinubu and his bootlickers in the media space against the gale of unwarranted attacks and sponsored blackmail against perceived individuals whose interests poses grave threat to his alleged return in 2027.

“Such individuals like former President Jonathan; former Governor Amaechi, former Governor Obi and others are committed to projecting a common front to redeem our deteriorating economy, rebuild our wobbling health system, rebuild critical infrastructure and restore, tackle corruption and restore public confidence in government. And this will happen from 2027 with a new government.

“Instead of wasting time and energy plotting the fall of any of these notable Nigerians, Tinubu should concern himself more about doing the little he can to repair the things he has spoilt particularly, the image of Nigeria in the international scene so that the next government that will be inaugurated in 2027 can focus on some for important areas as the rot he has created has made a mess of Nigeria as a sovereign nation, Eze stated.

Eze said though he is not a fan of Jonathan or a supporter of his political interest, it is however laughable to hear Tinubu and his government that has run the economy aground and instituted corruption as a policy in Nigeria accuse Jonathan of abysmal record. Under Tinubu, a Minister is alleged of various economic crimes both home and abroad, but the Presidency keeps mum and watches helplessly.

“These needless excuses will be part of Tinubu’s biggest obstacle in 2027,” Eze hinted.

“Truth be told, Tinubu and his men are jittery of what the future holds for them come 2027.

“Attacking perceived political foes, critics and opposition forces will not deter Nigerians from sacking his administration.

“Rather than lead Nigeria aright, Tinubu preoccupied himself with his re-election ambition, a mistake that appears costly, and has caused much harm to Nigeria and Nigerians.

“No matter the odds, come 2027, I advise Tinubu and his men to -rather than wasting their time plotting on a task that is unachievable- start planning on how to formally relocate to Lagos State and allow genuine and patriotic Nigerians to find a way of rebuilding the country from its present sordid state, the APC Chieftain stated.

Fidelity Bank Set To Disburse NCGC N5bn Credit Guarantee Facility To Boost MSME Financing

0

Tier one Lender, Fidelity Bank Plc, has announced its readiness to begin the disbursement of funds under the National Credit Guarantee Company (NCGC) N5 billion Credit Intervention Scheme. The initiative is designed to expand access to finance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as businesses owned by women and youths across Nigeria.

This was disclosed by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the bank and NCGC.

According to Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe, the partnership with NCGC represents a significant step in the bank’s ongoing efforts to enhance financial inclusion and stimulate economic growth through increased access to credit. “This guarantee will enable us to further expand financing opportunities for those who need it most, while strengthening our capacity to support businesses across key sectors of the Nigerian economy,” she said.

The facility will cover critical sectors, including food processing, secondary agriculture (such as fish and poultry processing), fashion, green energy, light manufacturing, the agricultural value chain (feed mills and equipment fabrication), export-oriented businesses, and education.

Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe highlighted that Fidelity Bank has consistently supported diverse sectors through targeted initiatives such as the Green Energy Financing Programme for renewable energy entrepreneurs, the Fidelity SME Hub for small businesses with a special arm – Creativerse, dedicated to the creative industry and the Fidelity Bank Education Support Scheme which provides affordable financing for educational infrastructure and technology upgrades.

“With the backing of the NCGC credit guarantee, we can now extend financing to businesses that have traditionally been excluded from formal credit systems—without compromising our risk standards or operational efficiency,” she added. “While we have supported MSMEs with short-term facilities in the past, this partnership allows us to provide long-term credit facilities that empower businesses to expand sustainably.”

Over the past five years, Fidelity Bank has disbursed over N500 billion in loans to MSMEs, empowering thousands of entrepreneurs and creating sustainable livelihoods.

Also speaking at the event, Managing Director of NCGC, Mr. Bonaventure Okhaimo, emphasized that the organization was established to bridge the financing gap faced by MSMEs in Nigeria by mitigating lender risks through credit guarantees.

“Although MSMEs are key contributors to Nigeria’s economic development, many of them struggle to secure funding from financial institutions due to perceived high risks,” he said. “Through the credit guarantee scheme, NCGC shares this risk with banks, making it easier for MSMEs to access much-needed capital.”

Mr. Okhaimo added that NCGC and Fidelity Bank will also collaborate to provide financial literacy and business management training to MSME beneficiaries, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills to effectively manage their loans and achieve sustainable growth.

The Fidelity Bank–NCGC partnership reinforces both institutions shared commitment to fostering entrepreneurship, strengthening MSMEs, and driving inclusive economic development across Nigeria.

Ranked among the best banks in Nigeria, Fidelity Bank Plc is a full-fledged Commercial Deposit Money Bank serving over 9.1 million customers through digital banking channels, its 255 business offices in Nigeria and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.

The Bank is a recipient of multiple local and international Awards, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award by BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards; the 2024 Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application award for its Fidelity Mobile App by Global Business Outlook, and the 2024 Most Innovative Investment Banking Service Provider award by Global Brands Magazine. Additionally, the Bank was recognised as the Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria by the Euromoney Awards for Excellence and as the Export Financing Bank of the Year by the BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards.

Coroner Orders Contempt Proceedings Against Hospital Director For Failure To Produce Records On Late Journalist

0

A Lagos State District Coroner, Mrs Temitope Oladele, investigating the death of Mr Pelumi Onifade, a reporter with Gboah TV who reportedly died in Police custody during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020, has ordered that contempt proceedings be initiated against the Medical Director of Ikorodu General Hospital in Lagos for failing to comply with an order to produce hospital records relating to the deposit, release or current status of the remains of the late journalist.

The Coroner directed at the resumption of proceedings in the inquest on October 7, 2025, that “Form 48” be issued, together with a Certified True Copy of the court’s order, and served on the Medical Director or any other authourized representative of the hospital. Form 48, otherwise known as “Notice of Consequences of Disobedience of Court Order”, is used to initiate committal proceedings when a person or entity has failed to obey a valid court order.

The order directing the hospital to produce the records relating to the deposit, release or current status of the remains of the late Mr. Onifade was first made by the investigating magistrate on August 8, 2025, following an application made by Mr. Monday Arunsi, lawyer to Media Rights Agenda (MRA) after he reported that that the Medical Director had refused to release the information on the ground that medical records are confidential.

The coroner’s inquest into the death of Mr. Onifade, who was reportedly arrested by policemen attached to a Lagos state taskforce while he was covering the #EndSARS protests in 2020, and later found dead at the Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary, was convened on the orders of a Federal High Court in Lagos following a wrongful death suit brought against the Police and the Lagos State Government by MRA demanding, among other things, an investigation into the late journalist’s death.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Mr. Samuel Adebola of the law firm of Charles Musa & Co., leading Mr. Arunsi, on behalf of MRA and Mr. Onifade’s family, told the Coroner that in compliance with the directive issued during the last sitting, Mr. Arunsi and another lawyer from the law firm of Charles Musa & Co., Ms. Jennifer Wala, visited the Hospital on October 2, 2025 to meet with the Medical Director but were asked to wait as the Medical Director was said to be in a meeting.

He said that despite waiting for over five hours, the Medical Director failed to attend to them.

Mr. Adebola insisted that the Medical Director and the hospital had been duly served with the order on August 26, 2025 and that although more than a month had passed since then, they had not complied with the order or indicated any intention to comply even though the order required them to produce the records within seven days of receipt of the order.

He therefore applied that the Medical Director be cited for contempt of court.

The Coroner granted the application and directed that Form 48 be issued and served along with a Certified True Copy of the order on the Medical Director or any other authorized representative of the hospital.

She thereafter adjourned further hearing on the inquest to October 22, 2025.

Commending The Inspector-General Of Police For Promoting Synergy Between The Police And The Bar

By Adewole Kehinde

The recent visit of a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by its President, Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, stands as a remarkable demonstration of collaboration, mutual respect, and commitment to upholding the rule of law in Nigeria.

The meeting offered a platform for robust deliberations on issues of mutual concern—particularly the imperative of fostering synergy between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association in the pursuit of justice, protection of citizens’ rights, and promotion of public confidence in law enforcement processes.

It is commendable that the IGP, in his wisdom and regard for the rule of law, has shown great leadership by considering the broader interests of Nigerians and the concerns raised by the Bar. His decision to temporarily suspend the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, pending the outcome of the hearing of the Motion on Notice scheduled for October 16, 2025, at the Federal High Court, Warri, Delta State, reflects a rare blend of empathy, sensitivity, and respect for due process.

This gesture underscores the IGP’s commitment to ensuring that policing in Nigeria remains people-centred and guided by fairness, justice, and constitutional provisions. It further highlights his openness to dialogue and constructive engagement with critical stakeholders in the justice sector.

Equally laudable is the inauguration of the Police–NBA Committee by the IGP, aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Bar Association. This strategic initiative will no doubt enhance collaboration, improve mutual understanding, and facilitate a more effective justice delivery system that prioritises transparency and accountability.

The Inspector-General of Police deserves commendation for this forward-thinking approach, which not only reinforces institutional harmony but also promotes a culture of respect between law enforcement officers and legal practitioners across the country.

While applauding this laudable step, all vehicle owners and motorists are hereby urged to take advantage of this temporary window to regularise their vehicle documentation and ensure full compliance with all relevant laws regulating the use of motor vehicles with shaded or tinted glasses in Nigeria.

IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s leadership continues to inspire confidence in the Nigeria Police Force as an institution committed to reform, respect for human rights, and the promotion of justice through strategic partnership with key stakeholders like the Nigerian Bar Association.
