IPOB’s Theatrical Search For Nnamdi Kanu’s Acquittal

0

By Chineze Emelieze,

In its usual staged attempt to cause confusion and coerce presiding judges into arriving at rulings favourable to it, IPOB has once again resorted to demanding that Justice Kolawole Omotosho must strike out the ongoing charges against Nnamdi Kanu. Ridiculous! They have added that the current charges against Kanu amounted to a resurrection of therepealed Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act 2013. Laughable, right?

In IPOB’s short-sighted insinuation, acts of mass murder committed andcharged by the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act 2013 – repealed in 2022 by the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act (TPPA) 2022 (Section 97) stand forgiven. And as usual, the powerful Emma signed and circulated the comical statement in the hopes that Justice Omotosho could be cowed by it.

This, by the way, is not a first; it is rather the group’s latest gimmick. Given that only days ago, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the federal government for the continuation of trial proceedings, despite IPOB’s cry against what they call an illegal rendition of Kanu from Kenya. For IPOB and this sustained delusion of wanting to cut Kanu loose from terrorism charges, everything is doable. Once Justice appears closer than ever, Kanu and his sympathisers resort to a circus of acts, attempting to insult Nigeria’s jurisprudence.

Akin to precedence, Kanu and his cohorts have also upped their antics from production of fake contents/graphics to spurn narratives in their favour in a bid to maintain leech on their remnant of gullible sympathisers, to adopting despicable levels of disinformation, malicious reports, in addition to outright defamation, to gain leverage in the courts of public opinion.

Eventually, in desperation, they turned to harassing and embarrassing Judges in open Court to coerce or attempt to hoodwink them into letting Kanu go free. However, aside from the conspiracies of terrorism and the litany of terror-related offences against Kanu, there are several acts prejudicial to judicial processes that this group and its leader have contravened. The travails of the members of the Nigerian Judiciary in the course of Kanu’s trial only climaxed with many ignoble accusations. He, Kanu, does this with ease.

In open Court, Kanu called Justice Nyako shameful, disgraceful, and accused her of hobnobbing with lawyers in the AGF’s office and collecting bribes in hundreds of millions. He added that she was only assigned to his case in exchange for freedom for her son and husband from corruption charges. Allegations that he or any member of his legal team is yet to verify. Such antics became so damning for his case that Kanu Agabi, SAN, his latest senior counsel, is said to have counselled Nnamdi Kanu and the other members of his team, to apologise for their misdeeds in Court.

I am beyond certain that Kanu is already preparing a subterfuge against Justice Kolawole Omotosho. Before the endless drift to appealing for reassignment of Judges, even Justice John Tsoho, was not spared Kanu’s ridiculous on the claims suggestive of bias towards his trial. Ask Hon. Justice Haruna Tsammani, who knows quite well that no matter how well-intentioned one is, Nnamdi Kanu and his theatrics will certainly mudslide and defame every iota of sincerity one brings.

Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that despite several contemptuous actions, all he and his cohorts have provoked is at best a slap on the wrist. For instance, in June 2025, Barr. Aloy Ejimakor, after raising a false and reckless alarm on X with allegations that the DSS denied his client’s visitation rights, he, Aloy, got away with a simple warning to either retract the claim or risk being barred from attending future trials. Linda Kanu, despite making videos of court proceedings, which she posted across social media platforms to stir controversy and intimidate Judges, went scot-free. Without charge.

As the 10th October date draws near, it is expedient to caution public vigilance. For IPOB it is always well planned and orchestrated to malign and incite malicious actions, particularly hostile propaganda, against Judges and those on the prosecuting side. It shouldn’t surprise if Kanu begins to feign illness, and begins to spread blackmail that the British government is conspiring with the Nigerian government. These antics are his stock in trade.

However, it should be known that the Supreme Court, in its judgment, held that the manner Kanu was brought back to the country should not be an issue; and therefore, ordered the continuation of Kanu’s trial. Kanu himself once stated in an interview with journalists on 24th September, 2024, that he fully commits to the constitutional provision that any determination made by the Supreme Court is binding and supercedes all rulings on the said subject by any lower Court.

Amnesty International (AI) in its report of 13th August 2025, A Decade of Impunity: Attacks and Unlawful Killings in South -East Nigeria estimates that “between January 2021 and June 2023, about 1,844 people were killed in the South-East region of Nigeria.” The report also cites several attacks on security agents by gunmen, leading to the unlawful killing of security agents and residents. AI further documented several cases of killings in different areas in the South-East by so-called “unknown gunmen,” cult groups, IPOB, and its militant arm, the ESN.

Nnamdi Kanu cannot then absolve himself of bloodletting or innocent lost souls, which by all standards in Nigeria, is a massive case to answer. He might as well show up honourably on 10th October. This time, it’s a call for justice for scores of death and destruction of property caused by MNK in the South East, it is also a test of our dear nations judicial system. No amount of blackmail should sway justice for the slain. The judiciary must stand firm, and rule of law should be top most.

Bye-Elections Marred By Irregularities, Labour Party Alleges

0

The Labour Party has described Saturday’s bye-elections conducted across several states as “a mockery of democracy” and a troubling signal ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser, Media to the party’s Interim National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating widespread electoral malpractice in collusion with security agencies.

According to the party, incidents of vote-buying, rigging, and violence were recorded in states including Kaduna, Anambra, Ogun, Oyo, and Kano, casting doubt on the credibility of the exercise.

“If the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot conduct minor off-season elections with integrity, one shudders at the thought of how it intends to manage the nationwide polls of 2027,” the statement read.

The Labour Party also faulted INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, alleging that the commission has failed to redeem its image since the disputed 2023 general elections.

Calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene, the party warned that allowing such irregularities to persist could push Nigeria’s democracy “towards imminent collapse.”

“The charade witnessed yesterday must not be allowed to define future elections,” Asogwa said, adding that history would be unkind to the President if he permits electoral malpractice to become entrenched.

IGP Egbetokun’s Courageous Step: A Review Of Amnesty International’s Report On The South-East

By Adewole Kehinde

“Taking bold focused action creates explosive results.”John Di Lemme

The decision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to order a comprehensive review of Amnesty International’s report on the South-East deserves commendation, not just from stakeholders in the security sector, but from every patriotic Nigerian who desires peace, justice, and accountability.

For too long, reports by international human rights organisations have either been dismissed outright or met with defensive rhetoric that does little to address the issues raised.

What IGP Egbetokun has demonstrated is leadership anchored on transparency, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to improving the image and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.

By mandating a thorough review, the IGP is sending a clear message: that Nigeria will not shy away from scrutiny, and that the police, as the frontline institution in internal security, are ready to uphold global standards of accountability.

This is a refreshing departure from the past, where engagement with international watchdogs was often marked by hostility and denials.

The South-East region has, in recent years, become a hotspot of insecurity, marked by attacks on security personnel, arson, and the killing of innocent citizens. In such a volatile environment, law enforcement officers operate under tremendous pressure, often making split-second decisions that may have grave consequences.

While Amnesty International’s reports sometimes omit the complexities of policing such environments, they also highlight genuine concerns that must not be ignored.

Egbetokun’s directive ensures that the Nigeria Police does not fall into the trap of brushing these concerns aside. Instead, the review will help identify gaps in operations, strengthen compliance with human rights standards, and reassure citizens that the Force is not above accountability.

This progressive approach will also enhance international confidence in Nigeria’s policing system, especially at a time when partnerships with global institutions are crucial in the fight against terrorism, insurgency, and violent crime.

It is also important to stress that reviewing Amnesty International’s report is not an admission of guilt, but an opportunity for introspection and reform. Where officers are found culpable, justice must take its course.

Where the report misrepresents facts or fails to capture the reality on the ground, the Nigeria Police will be in a stronger position to provide clarifications backed by credible evidence.

This move by IGP Egbetokun is, therefore, not just about Amnesty International, it is about building a policing system Nigerians can trust, one that balances firmness with fairness, and force with accountability.

For this bold, transparent, and commendable step, IGP Kayode Egbetokun deserves the applause of all well-meaning Nigerians.

He has set a precedent that future police chiefs must emulate: the courage to confront uncomfortable truths, and the wisdom to see accountability as strength, not weakness.

Ondo APC Unshaken, Aiyedatiwa Delivering On His Mandate – Comrade Olufemi Lawson

0

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Public Enlightenment, Comrade Olufemi Lawson, has fired back at critics peddling tales of division in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, and those deliberately trying to undermine the achievements of the Aiyedatiwa Administration in Ondo State, declaring without mincing words that “there is no crack in Ondo APC, and that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains the undisputed leader of the APC in Ondo State.”

Speaking to some journalists in Lagos at the weekend, Lawson dismissed what he described as “desperate attempts by mischief-makers, especially on few social media platform, to undermine the towering achievements of Governor Aiyedatiwa.” He said the governor’s leadership of the APC is “firm, clear, and beyond contestation.”

On the flurry of new political platforms springing up across Ondo State in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection, Lawson said Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomes them as “a sign of the APC’s unmatched strength and grassroots hold on the state.” But he added a caveat:

“Every group seeking to mobilize for President Tinubu must work within the framework of the APC. Let it be clear, our President will carry the flag of our great party in 2027, and Ondo State will be at the forefront of his victory.”

Turning to governance, Lawson rolled out an intimidating list of achievements of the Aiyedatiwa administration in just six months since assuming office in February 2025 under the OUR EASE development agenda.

Among them are: cutting the state’s domestic debt from ₦74bn to ₦12bn, recruiting over 2,000 teachers, completing the 7.8km ShopRite–Oda Road in Akure, near-completion of the Onyearugbulem–Irese Flyover, and massive school renovations across the state. He also cited ongoing dualization works on major highways including Ijoka Road, Akure, Akure–Idanre Road, and the 29km Igbokoda–Okitipupa Road, alongside regular pension payments and rehabilitation of 60km of roads statewide.

“These are not promises. They are projects you can see, roads you can drive on, schools your children can attend, salaries and pensions being paid. This is real governance, not politics,” Lawson declared.

He warned that attempts by “a tiny clique of politically rattled individuals” to downplay these strides would fail, insisting that Ondo people are firmly behind Governor Aiyedatiwa.

“The Governor has chosen governance above politics. Those who feel threatened by the overwhelming confidence reposed in him by APC stakeholders, both in the state and nationally, should prepare for more sleepless nights. The people of Ondo State know where they stand, and they stand with Governor Aiyedatiwa.”

With that, Lawson reaffirmed that Aiyedatiwa will continue to consolidate his role as both the leader of the APC in Ondo State and the driver of transformational governance.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has approved automatic employment for the three children of late Mrs. Lucky-ere Etete following the death of their 56-year-old mother in July this year.

Mrs. Etete was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) women leader in Sampou community, hometown of the governor, in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri gave the directive on Friday during her lying-in-state/funeral service at Sampou.

He said upon the death of her husband at an early age, she took up the responsibility of training her three daughters, who were now graduates.

Paying glowing tribute to the deceased, the Bayelsa helmsman said she contributed her quota to the development of her community through her role as leader of the women.

He described Mrs. Etete as a hardworking business woman and staunch supporter of the PDP with an unwavered loyalty to the party.

According to him, as a mark of respect and honour, he made it a point of duty to pay his last respect despite his busy schedule.

“What mattered most to me was the relationship we shared and not the support we were able to offer her. She was one of my fervent party supporters.

“We truly tried to save her life. Unfortunately, there were other complications and we lost her. But what we can ensure is to cater for the children that she left behind.

“Lucky-ere was a business woman and after the death of her husband, she took up the responsibility of supporting her three children and was able to sponsor their education. Today they are graduates.

“l therefore direct that the Deputy Chief of Staff, chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Authority and chairman of the Civil Service Commission ensure the immediate employment of Woyengidenyefa Akpeti, Woyengotonyo Akpeti and Mrs Woyengidipamo Doowari Anyama.”

Immediate past Kolokuma/Opokuma PDP caucus chairman, Chief Isaac Kumokou, in his tribute, described Etete as a lover of Sampou community, who participated actively in its activities.

Chief Kumokou said that though she was young, she demonstrated maturity and served as a role model to mothers.

In a brief exhortation titled, “Death, A Passage Unto Eternity,” Pastor Emmanuel Zitua of the Living Faith Bible Church encouraged people to strive to make positive impact on the lives of others.

Referencing the book of Joshua 24:15, Pastor Zitua enjoined Christians to serve the Lord in order to live a purposeful life.
