Nigeria, Qatar Strengthen Partnership Against Illicit Drug Trafficking

…… Envoy assures support as Marwa seeks the provision of rehabilitation facilities

Nigeria and Qatar have strengthened their partnership in the area of combating illicit drug trafficking with the symbolic exchange of instruments of ratification between the two countries by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) and the Qatar Ambassador Ali Bin Ghanem Al- Hajri.

The spokesperson of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, says the exchange followed the historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, on 3rd March 2024 in Doha, on cooperation on combating illicit trade in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors.

Speaking at a brief ceremony at the Qatar Embassy in Abuja on Tuesday, 7th October 2025, Marwa expressed appreciation for the partnership between the two countries against a major threat to public health and security globally.

He assured that the NDLEA remains committed to collaborating with its counterpart in Doha “to protect our people and countries from the threat of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.” He noted that in the last four years, NDLEA had intercepted over 1,000 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis and others heading to Qatar.

While commending the Qatar government for its peace building efforts and tremendous humanitarian work across the world through the Qatar Foundation, the NDLEA boss sought the support of the Foundation in the area of provision of rehabilitation facilities for the treatment of people struggling with drug addiction.

In his response, Ambassador Ali Bin Ghanem Al- Hajri assured Marwa that he will present the request to the Qatar Foundation. He noted that the partnership between the two countries has improved greatly and of recent increased the number travels between the two countries.

Ignite The Future: Dr. Muhammed Maikaya – The People’s Champion Poised To Elevate Nasarawa State Beyond Governor Sule’s Legacy In 2027

0

As the sun sets on Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s transformative tenure, the horizon of Nasarawa State gleams with promise. The 2027 general elections are no longer a distant whisper—they’re a clarion call for bold visionaries ready to build on the foundations laid by a leader who championed unity and progress. In this pivotal moment, one name rises above the fray: Alh. Dr. Muhammed Maikaya, the esteemed Chiroman Toto and CEO of the Maikaya Development Foundation. With a proven track record of uplifting communities and a heart attuned to the people’s pulse, Maikaya isn’t just a candidate—he’s the catalyst Nasarawa desperately needs to soar higher.

Governor Sule’s administration has been a beacon of stability, fostering economic growth, infrastructure development, and inter-ethnic harmony in a state rich with untapped potential. Yet, as his term draws to a close, the question echoes across the hills of Lafia, the bustling markets of Keffi, and the serene farmlands of Toto: Who will carry the torch forward? Enter Dr. Maikaya, a man whose life story reads like a blueprint for servant leadership. Born into the vibrant cultural tapestry of Nasarawa, he has transcended humble beginnings to become a titan of philanthropy, earning accolades from institutions like Ahmadu Bello University for his unwavering humanitarian service. As Chiroman Toto—a traditional title symbolizing wisdom and guardianship—he embodies the bridge between heritage and modernity, ready to weave Governor Sule’s successes into an even grander narrative.

At the helm of the Maikaya Development Foundation (MDF), Dr. Maikaya has orchestrated a symphony of change that resonates deeply in Nasarawa’s soul. Founded with the singular mission to improve lives and foster peaceful coexistence, MDF has touched thousands through targeted interventions in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. Consider this: In a single initiative, the foundation disbursed N20,000 each to 525 indigent students pursuing tertiary education, shattering barriers and igniting dreams that poverty once dimmed. These aren’t mere handouts; they’re investments in tomorrow’s engineers, doctors, and leaders—echoing Dr. Maikaya’s belief that education is the great equalizer.

Healthcare, too, bears his indelible mark. By enrolling 750 vulnerable individuals into Nasarawa’s health insurance scheme, MDF has fortified the safety net for families who once teetered on the edge of despair. And for the women driving Nasarawa’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—the unsung heroines of local economies—Dr. Maikaya’s foundation earned the prestigious “Most Supportive of Women MSME MFB Award,” recognizing its role in fueling female-led ventures that sustain communities. From rags-to-riches tales of empowered entrepreneurs to honors from the College of Nursing Sciences for community upliftment, MDF’s milestones paint a portrait of a leader who doesn’t just promise change—he delivers it, one transformed life at a time.

But Dr. Maikaya’s vision extends far beyond philanthropy; it’s a blueprint for a Nasarawa reborn. Imagine a state where youth unemployment plummets through skill-building hubs, where healthcare reaches every remote village, and where economic corridors link Toto’s fertile plains to global markets. As a hopeful gubernatorial contender, he pledges to amplify Governor Sule’s strides—enhancing agricultural innovation, bolstering security through community dialogues, and harnessing technology to bridge urban-rural divides. “Nasarawa’s potential is boundless,” he often says, “but it demands leaders who listen, act, and unite.” His foundation’s work in promoting peaceful coexistence amid diversity is a testament to this ethos, proving he can heal divides and propel progress.

The 2027 elections aren’t just about ballots; they’re about legacy. Will Nasarawa settle for the status quo, or seize this chance to elect a successor who has already proven his mettle? Dr. Maikaya isn’t waiting for permission—he’s rallying the masses, from students in Lafia to farmers in Doma, to co-author the next chapter.

This is your moment, Nasarawans. Get involved. Be part of the movement. Join volunteer drives, amplify his message on social media, or simply spread the word in your village square. Together, let’s ensure the best choice emerges: Alh. Dr. Muhammed Musa Maikaya, the visionary Chiroman Toto whose compassion and competence will lift our dear state to unprecedented heights.

The future isn’t coming—it’s calling. Answer it with Maikaya.

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao S. Adewale, has called for stronger synergy and cooperation between residents of Nyanya and the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring safety and security within the area.

CP Ajao made this call during a courtesy visit to the Nyanya Divisional Police Station, where he held an interactive session with youths, community leaders, and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

The interactive session provided an opportunity for members of the community to voice their concerns and suggestions on how to strengthen collaboration with the police. CP Ajao also urged residents to always have the contact numbers of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), fire service, and other emergency responders for quick intervention in times of need.

While commending the efforts of the local vigilante group for complementing police operations, the Commissioner also applauded the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Nyanya for their cooperation and assistance in the arrest of suspected criminals.

Earlier during the visit, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nyanya Division, CSP Alhassan Majia, warmly received the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, and briefed him on the achievements recorded by the division in crime prevention and community policing.

The DPO also highlighted some of the challenges facing the division, particularly in the areas of manpower and logistics, and appealed for the Commissioner’s support to further enhance the operational efficiency of the command in ensuring the safety of lives and property within the Nyanya axis.

Dignitaries present at the meeting included the Speaker of the AMAC Legislative Council, the Chairman and members of the PCRC, traditional council leaders from Nyanya, heads of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), as well as youth leaders from the community.

Bayelsa Acquires Aircraft For Commercial Operations

…… Gov Diri Receives Africa In Diaspora Leader On Maiden Nigeria Visit

Bayelsa State has procured two aircraft to commence commercial flight operations at the state’s airport.

Governor Douye Diri, who stated this on Monday during the courtesy visit of the Prime Minister of the State of Africa in Diaspora, Dr Tin Louise-George, to Government House, Yenagoa, said the planes would soon arrive and would operate the Yenagoa, Lagos and Abuja routes.

According to a press release on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri said his administration was determined to make the Bayelsa International Airport more commercially effective for flight operations.

While welcoming Dr. Louise-George on his maiden visit to Nigeria and Bayelsa, he described the State of Africa in Diaspora as akin to Doctors Without Borders.

He stated that the state government was ready to partner in the areas of airport expansion and smart city development.

He said: “I heartily welcome you and your team to Bayelsa. We are pleased to note that you are visiting Nigeria for the first time.

“Let me acknowledge that I had a fruitful virtual meeting with you and your team when I was recently in London, which was facilitated by my Technical Adviser, Prof. Oweikumo Eradiri.

“As an African government without borders, we know you have a lot for us. My Technical Adviser had earlier presented the plans we have for developing our state. The airport is one of them, which certainly needs expansion.

”We are working on the airport in the area of ensuring there are regular, daily flights. We had an arrangement with a private airline, which we were supporting for flights to and fro Lagos and Abuja. But it got to a point where that arrangement almost collapsed, and the airport became virtually non-functional.

“Now we have taken the bull by the horns, and as we speak, we are expecting two aircraft, which the government has already procured. These aircraft would operate daily flights to Lagos and Abuja. So wherever you have an airport, constant electricity and water, it is as good as any place you stay to eke out a living.

“Talking about smart cities, we are equally developing a new city called the New Yenagoa City. It is a place my team will take you to see what we are doing. That is the kind of place a smart city will be very okay for our people.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister of the State of Africa in Diaspora, Dr Tin Louise-George, proposed development support and funding for selected projects in the state through a cooperation agreement.

He explained that in 2003, Heads of State of the African Union unanimously adopted a resolution establishing the African Diaspora as the sixth region of Africa.

The Prime Minister said there were 350 million people of African descent living outside of Africa and that he had the mandate of the Africa Union to represent them.

He stated that besides the government, which he leads, a parliament and a royal chamber, there were programmes of action for development, with the objective to reinforce Africa through the diaspora and the diaspora through Africa.

He said the visit to Bayelsa was to explore areas of collaboration in aviation, provide support for a smart city, education and medical facilities among other sectors.

“Our objective is to reinforce Africa through the diaspora and the diaspora through Africa. And we are very happy to have this opportunity to come to Bayelsa State and Nigeria. What we want to do is propose support, development and funding.

“This morning, I saw the airport and I know you want to extend it. We are ready to provide the resources to develop this airport, a smart city somewhere, education and a medical complex. We will be happy to contribute.”

I Didn’t Forge Certificate; I Graduated From UNN In 1985 – Minister Nnaji

0

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, on Monday, September 6, 2025, declared that he graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1985.

Nnaji vowed that he would not be distracted by lies of alleged certificate forgery or by those who weaponised institutions and media platforms for political gain.

This was as he said that he remained focused on his work and mandate, advancing innovation, building Nigeria’s science and technology capacity, and restoring the nation’s confidence in research-driven industrial growth.

Nnaji, who stated these at a press conference in Abuja that was addressed by Dr. Robert Ngwu, spokesperson to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, insisted that he was a proud alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), having graduated in July 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology/Biochemistry, with Second Class (Honours) Lower Division.

He further said that the fact was not in doubt, stressing that it was documented in the University’s own records, acknowledged in its official correspondence, and reflected in its 1985 Convocation Brochure, which remained part of UNN’s permanent archives.

According to Nnaji, “The only authentic letter issued by the University of Nigeria on this matter is the one dated 21 December 2023, duly stamped and signed by Mrs I.A.S. Onyeador for the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Celine Ngozi Nnebedum.

“That official communication, written in response to People’s Gazette inquiry, confirmed that: Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, with registration number 1981/30725, was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry and graduated in July 1985 with a Bachelor of Science, Second Class (Honours) Lower Division.

“That was the official position of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, properly stamped, duly issued, and still valid.

“Two years later, in May 2025, a purported letter surfaced, allegedly written by the University, suddenly claiming that there were “no records” of the Minister’s graduation.

‘You’re not greater than Nigeria’: FG slams PENGASSAN over strike

“The question every Nigerian should ask is simple and logical: What changed between December 2023 and May 2025 – apart from the fact that two card-carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suddenly emerged as Acting Vice Chancellor and then Vice Chancellor of the University?

“It is on that same political foundation that Premium Times built its false story. By academic convention worldwide, the Registrar, not the Vice Chancellor, is the custodian of all examination and graduation records.

“Any attempt by a Vice Chancellor to assume that role is an aberration in university protocol and, in this case, an obvious political overreach.

Dr Ngwu explained that when Nnaji got wind of attempts within the University to tamper with or alter his academic file, he immediately sought legal redress by approaching the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025, presided over by Hon. Justice H. J. Yilwa.

He further said, “On 22 September 2025, the Court granted a series of protective orders, including: An injunction restraining the Vice Chancellor and management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from tampering or continuing to tamper with the Honourable Minister’s academic records.

“An order of mandamus compelling the University to release his academic transcript, and a directive to the supervising authorities to ensure compliance through their disciplinary powers.

“These are not speculative claims; they are certified orders of the Federal High Court of Nigeria. That alone should settle the matter. Unfortunately, instead of adhering strictly to the valid court order, the Vice Chancellor, a lawyer by profession, resorted to cyberbullying and a politically motivated media trial against Chief Uche Nnaji.

“It is increasingly clear that this entire episode is not about education or integrity; it is about political desperation, disguised as academic inquiry

“The timing, the sources, the false documents, and the paid narratives all point to a coordinated campaign to drag a reputable public servant into the mud of partisan politics.

But Nigerians are wiser than that. The facts are before the courts, the documents are public, and the truth cannot be buried under political propaganda.

“The University officially confirmed this in writing in December 2023. It’s reflected in its 1985 Convocation Brochure, which remains part of UNN’s permanent archives.

“Any other claim or document to the contrary is false, malicious, and politically motivated,” he said.

The Minister, therefore, called on the University of Nigeria to uphold its proud motto, “To Restore the Dignity of Man,” just as he stressed that the institution must reclaim its integrity by distancing itself from political manipulation and reaffirming the authenticity of its own official record.

He said that this is not just about one man’s academic record, but about protecting truth, preserving institutional honour, and ensuring that no university in Nigeria ever becomes a pawn in partisan politics.

“The truth is simple, the record is clear, and the law is now on the side of justice,” Ngwu concluded.

Delta Police Neutralize Kidnap Gang, Recover Sophisticated Firearms

…. 12 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Jesse

The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against violent crimes across the state, with the death of two suspected kidnappers following a gun duel and the arrest of 12 suspected cultists in Jesse.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) to intensify intelligence-led operations after a series of reported kidnapping and armed robbery incidents around the Upper Agbarho axis of Ughelli and its environs.

Acting on credible intelligence, the team led by ASP Julius Robinson extended its investigation to Rivers and Imo States, where two suspects, Abubakar Musa (28) of Ajase town, Kwara State, and Yusuf Sale (25) of Rimin-Zayam town, Bauchi State, were arrested in Port Harcourt and Owerri on October 2 and 4, 2025, respectively.

During interrogation, the suspects led operatives to a bush between Upper Agbarho and Oviri-Ogor communities in Ughelli North LGA, where the police recovered one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 43 rounds of live ammunition, one pump-action gun, and a locally made pistol.

However, while exiting the area, the operatives came under heavy gunfire from other members of the gang who attempted to rescue their arrested accomplices. A fierce exchange ensued, resulting in gunshot injuries to both the suspects in custody and some of their collaborators. Two police operatives also sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment. The injured suspects were taken to the hospital but were confirmed dead while receiving medical attention.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation targeting cult-related violence, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), acting on intelligence on October 5, 2025, raided a hideout along Sylvester Street, Jesse Town, Ethiope West LGA. The location was allegedly being used as an assembly point for cultists before attacks on rival groups.

During the raid, 12 suspects, including Mudiaga Obey (20), were arrested, and a Beretta pistol with one live round of ammunition was recovered.

SP Edafe Bright assured that the Command remains resolute in its mission to rid Delta State of criminal elements and restore peace across all communities, adding that investigations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the kidnap gang and other accomplices.

Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) mni, appeals to all parties participating in the ongoing Polac admission screening to play by the rules to avoid facing the wrath of the Commission.

The PSC Chairman said the Commission is poised to sanitise Police recruitment in the country, which includes admission into Polac, so that the Police will be proud of the products that will be sent to them.

He assured that the Commission will continue to carry along all relevant stakeholders in the search for a clean and credible recruitment process.

DIG Argungu advised state governments to show more interest in the ongoing Polac admission processes to protect their quota.
