I Didn’t Forge Certificate; I Graduated From UNN In 1985 – Minister Nnaji

0

Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, on Monday, September 6, 2025, declared that he graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1985.

Nnaji vowed that he would not be distracted by lies of alleged certificate forgery or by those who weaponised institutions and media platforms for political gain.

This was as he said that he remained focused on his work and mandate, advancing innovation, building Nigeria’s science and technology capacity, and restoring the nation’s confidence in research-driven industrial growth.

Nnaji, who stated these at a press conference in Abuja that was addressed by Dr. Robert Ngwu, spokesperson to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, insisted that he was a proud alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), having graduated in July 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology/Biochemistry, with Second Class (Honours) Lower Division.

He further said that the fact was not in doubt, stressing that it was documented in the University’s own records, acknowledged in its official correspondence, and reflected in its 1985 Convocation Brochure, which remained part of UNN’s permanent archives.

According to Nnaji, “The only authentic letter issued by the University of Nigeria on this matter is the one dated 21 December 2023, duly stamped and signed by Mrs I.A.S. Onyeador for the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Celine Ngozi Nnebedum.

“That official communication, written in response to People’s Gazette inquiry, confirmed that: Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, with registration number 1981/30725, was admitted in 1981 to study Microbiology/Biochemistry and graduated in July 1985 with a Bachelor of Science, Second Class (Honours) Lower Division.

“That was the official position of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, properly stamped, duly issued, and still valid.

“Two years later, in May 2025, a purported letter surfaced, allegedly written by the University, suddenly claiming that there were “no records” of the Minister’s graduation.

‘You’re not greater than Nigeria’: FG slams PENGASSAN over strike

“The question every Nigerian should ask is simple and logical: What changed between December 2023 and May 2025 – apart from the fact that two card-carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suddenly emerged as Acting Vice Chancellor and then Vice Chancellor of the University?

“It is on that same political foundation that Premium Times built its false story. By academic convention worldwide, the Registrar, not the Vice Chancellor, is the custodian of all examination and graduation records.

“Any attempt by a Vice Chancellor to assume that role is an aberration in university protocol and, in this case, an obvious political overreach.

Dr Ngwu explained that when Nnaji got wind of attempts within the University to tamper with or alter his academic file, he immediately sought legal redress by approaching the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja, in Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/1909/2025, presided over by Hon. Justice H. J. Yilwa.

He further said, “On 22 September 2025, the Court granted a series of protective orders, including: An injunction restraining the Vice Chancellor and management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from tampering or continuing to tamper with the Honourable Minister’s academic records.

“An order of mandamus compelling the University to release his academic transcript, and a directive to the supervising authorities to ensure compliance through their disciplinary powers.

“These are not speculative claims; they are certified orders of the Federal High Court of Nigeria. That alone should settle the matter. Unfortunately, instead of adhering strictly to the valid court order, the Vice Chancellor, a lawyer by profession, resorted to cyberbullying and a politically motivated media trial against Chief Uche Nnaji.

“It is increasingly clear that this entire episode is not about education or integrity; it is about political desperation, disguised as academic inquiry

“The timing, the sources, the false documents, and the paid narratives all point to a coordinated campaign to drag a reputable public servant into the mud of partisan politics.

But Nigerians are wiser than that. The facts are before the courts, the documents are public, and the truth cannot be buried under political propaganda.

“The University officially confirmed this in writing in December 2023. It’s reflected in its 1985 Convocation Brochure, which remains part of UNN’s permanent archives.

“Any other claim or document to the contrary is false, malicious, and politically motivated,” he said.

The Minister, therefore, called on the University of Nigeria to uphold its proud motto, “To Restore the Dignity of Man,” just as he stressed that the institution must reclaim its integrity by distancing itself from political manipulation and reaffirming the authenticity of its own official record.

He said that this is not just about one man’s academic record, but about protecting truth, preserving institutional honour, and ensuring that no university in Nigeria ever becomes a pawn in partisan politics.

“The truth is simple, the record is clear, and the law is now on the side of justice,” Ngwu concluded.

…. 12 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Jesse

The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against violent crimes across the state, with the death of two suspected kidnappers following a gun duel and the arrest of 12 suspected cultists in Jesse.

Acting on credible intelligence, the team led by ASP Julius Robinson extended its investigation to Rivers and Imo States, where two suspects, Abubakar Musa (28) of Ajase town, Kwara State, and Yusuf Sale (25) of Rimin-Zayam town, Bauchi State, were arrested in Port Harcourt and Owerri on October 2 and 4, 2025, respectively.

During interrogation, the suspects led operatives to a bush between Upper Agbarho and Oviri-Ogor communities in Ughelli North LGA, where the police recovered one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 43 rounds of live ammunition, one pump-action gun, and a locally made pistol.

However, while exiting the area, the operatives came under heavy gunfire from other members of the gang who attempted to rescue their arrested accomplices. A fierce exchange ensued, resulting in gunshot injuries to both the suspects in custody and some of their collaborators. Two police operatives also sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment. The injured suspects were taken to the hospital but were confirmed dead while receiving medical attention.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation targeting cult-related violence, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU), acting on intelligence on October 5, 2025, raided a hideout along Sylvester Street, Jesse Town, Ethiope West LGA. The location was allegedly being used as an assembly point for cultists before attacks on rival groups.

During the raid, 12 suspects, including Mudiaga Obey (20), were arrested, and a Beretta pistol with one live round of ammunition was recovered.

SP Edafe Bright assured that the Command remains resolute in its mission to rid Delta State of criminal elements and restore peace across all communities, adding that investigations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the kidnap gang and other accomplices.

IGP Egbetokun’s Dedication To Equity And Professionalism Evident In Free Distribution Of Police Kits

By Danjuma Lamido

Since the assumption of office by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police Force has witnessed a remarkable transformation in welfare, discipline, and professionalism.

One of the most commendable initiatives under his leadership is the free and fair distribution of police uniforms, boots, berets, belts, and other essential kits to every rank-and-file personnel across the country.

On January 18, 2025, IGP Egbetokun approved the distribution of new kits and uniforms to personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in other ranks.

This initiative is not just about providing clothing; it is a deliberate step towards fostering better working conditions, boosting morale, and enhancing the professional appearance of the Force.

It aligns perfectly with the IGP’s vision to modernise the police system and instil pride and dignity in officers as they serve and protect the nation.

The impact of this gesture has been widely felt. On August 29, 2025, policemen in Gombe State publicly commended the IGP following the distribution of customised police kits to officers and men of the Gombe Police Command. Their excitement and appreciation reflected a renewed sense of belonging and confidence, knowing that their welfare is being taken seriously by the leadership at the top.

It is worthy of note that IGP Egbetokun has maintained zero tolerance for corruption or any form of exploitation within the Force. He has made it clear that hoarding or selling government-provided uniforms and equipment to subordinates is an act that will not be condoned.

These items are supplied by the Federal Government for free distribution to officers, and any attempt to commercialise or divert them is both unethical and criminal.

By ensuring fair distribution and transparency in the process, IGP Egbetokun is not only upholding integrity but also setting a new standard of accountability within the Force. His leadership style demonstrates that genuine reform begins with fairness, welfare, and the elimination of corruption at the grassroots level.

Indeed, this proactive approach deserves commendation. The provision of quality uniforms and kits may seem basic, but in reality, it symbolises respect for the men and women who risk their lives daily to secure our communities.

When officers are properly kitted, respected, and motivated, their performance and discipline naturally improve, and that is the true essence of effective policing.

Under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Force is steadily regaining its pride and professionalism.

His welfare-driven reforms, particularly in ensuring equitable access to essential kits and equipment, are clear indicators of a leader who is committed to service, fairness, and the upliftment of every officer under his command.

Nigeria’s Next Drug Control Master Plan Must Address Emerging Threats, Says Marwa

….. Declares open UNODC, ECOWAS backed workshop on NDCMP 2026-2030, tasks MDAs, stakeholders

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) has charged all stakeholders involved in the ongoing development of the next National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP 2026-2030) to ensure that the strategy document addresses new and emerging threats that sustain the illicit drug trade in Nigeria.

According to a press release on Monda,y 6th October 2025, signed by the NDLEA Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, Marwa gave the admonition on Monday 6th October 2025 in Niger state in his opening remarks at a five-day workshop to develop the fifth National Drug Control Master Plan for the country. The residential retreat is funded by the ECOWAS Commission and supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

According to the NDLEA boss, “The task before us over the next few days is both strategic and historic. The drug problem continues to evolve, and so must our response. The NDCMP 2026–2030 must be visionary yet practical; comprehensive yet targeted; and nationally owned yet regionally and globally aligned. It must build on the achievements of the past while boldly addressing new and emerging threats, from synthetic drugs to dark-web trafficking, from poly-substance use to the illicit financial flows that sustain the drug trade.”

He reminded all the stakeholders that the workshop offers the rare opportunity to deliberate, analyse and agree on strategic priorities that will shape the trajectory of Nigeria’s response for the next five years. “It is here that we will identify what has worked, acknowledge the gaps, and design innovative pathways for the future”, he added.

He urged all participants to bring to bear their expertise, experience and commitment, adding that the workshop is not just about producing another document but about charting a collective vision to safeguard the health, security and wellbeing of Nigerians.

He reaffirmed the Agency’s readiness to provide leadership, coordination and technical support to ensure that the new Master Plan is not only developed but also effectively implemented. “I also pledge that we will continue to strengthen collaboration with our partners, both within Nigeria and across the ECOWAS sub-region, for we know that the drug challenge recognises no borders”, he stated.

He thanked ECOWAS Commission “for sponsoring this workshop, and all our partners — the European Union, UNODC, civil society organisations, professional bodies and the private sector — for their continued collaboration. Together, we are shaping a future where Nigeria and West Africa will be safer, healthier and more secure.”

Speaking at the workshop, UNODC Country Representative, Cheikh Ousmane who was represented by Dr. Akanidomo Ibanga commended Nigeria’s drug control efforts so far. “Yet, we are all aware that the drug situation continues to evolve. Global and regional dynamics — whether related to new psychoactive substances, organized crime networks, or the impact of conflict and economic pressures — all shape local realities. Our response must therefore be adaptive, coordinated, and inclusive. The Master Plan is the instrument through which this can happen.

“This workshop offers a unique opportunity to review the draft chapters, harmonize perspectives, and ensure that the priorities identified reflect both national realities and international standards, including those enshrined in the three international drug control conventions, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the African Union Plan of Action on Drug Control”, he stated.

While commending the leadership of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Federal Ministry of Health, as well as all members of the inter-agency working groups, for the dedication and expertise they bring to the process, he said that their work will serve as a compass for coordinated action over the coming years.

Also speaking during the opening ceremony of the workshop, ECOWAS Commission Commissioner for Human Development and Social Affairs, Prof Fatou Sow Sarr represented by Dr. Daniel Amankwaah noted that Nigeria, as a key stakeholder in regional drug control efforts, has taken proactive steps to develop national strategies aligned with international best practices.

“The Nigeria’s current National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP) will expire this year and a new plan needs to be developed to address the emerging drug threats, trafficking patterns, and the increasing burden of substance use disorders. The new NDCMP will effectively respond to current and future drug-related challenges.

“The ECOWAS Commission, in line with its mandate to support Member States in addressing drug-related issues, is providing technical and financial assistance to Nigeria in the elaboration of the new NDCMP. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the ECOWAS Drug Prevention and Control Programme and the broader regional efforts to strengthen drug demand and supply reduction mechanisms.

“This support is a strategic step toward strengthening Nigeria’s drug control framework and aligning it with regional and international best practices. The ECOWAS Commission remains committed to supporting Nigeria in this effort, ensuring that the new National Drug Control Master Plan is robust, evidence-based, and effectively addresses the country’s drug-related challenges”, the ECOWAS Commission chief assured.

Other stakeholders who spoke at the ceremony include representatives of the Federal Ministries of Education, Health, Agriculture, Budget and Planning as well as NACA, NAFDAC, EFCC, and NFIU.

Rivers State Alleged Peace Meeting: A Genuine Peace Meeting Would Have All Interests Represented – Eze

0

…..Reacts to Alleged Peace Meeting Between Gov. Fubara, Wike and his Faction
….Says God Will Direct the Governor to Act Right.

Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has dismissed reports insinuating a peace meeting allegedly held between the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, on the one hand, and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists, on the other hand.

Reacting to reports and pictures flying on the media space, Eze said the meeting, as clearly depicted, is merely a visit by a delegation of political touts led by the FCT Minister and his gutless loyalists, to the Governor and nothing more, stressing that from pictorial excerpts, it is unreasonable for anyone to genuinely conclude that a courtesy visit by the group would mean peace a meeting with the Governor.

Chief Eze noted that a genuine conflict resolution effort or peace meeting in the circumstance, would involve equal representation of the warring factions to assuage burning concerns and resolve conflicting interests in such a way no one affected in the crisis would be left to serve as lamb for sacrifice.

Such a meeting, if it were for peace, would not hold without the presence of notable factors like the Secretary to Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo; Chief of Staff to Gov. Fubara, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie; Sir Tele Ikuru, erstwhile Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Sam Jaja, Dr. Ikanya Ibiamu, High Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe or any of the Elders that stood with Gov. Fubara at the height of the struggle to free Rivers State from the shackles of the demonic and destabilising influence of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

“Though, Nyesom Wike has never be known as a peaceable fellow so if anyone thinks that this meeting was for any peace then such a fellow doesn’t understand the situation.”

With the calibre of persons in the said called meeting the aim of such a meeting should be very visible even to any blind man. The meeting is simply targeted at cornering the resources of Rivers State to themselves to the detriment of the development of Rivers State. And apart from this, the meeting was nothing but to intimidate the Governor and to impose some of undemocratic elements on him as his Commissioners and Aides.

Assuming the meeting was for peace, forcing the Governor not to bring any of his associates simply exposes Wike as a tyrant and a nepotistic leader. It is left to the generality of Rivers State to find a way to free themselves and the State from such band of unprogressive elements.

As much as I may not blame Fubara so much for this messy situation putting into consideration how he found himself at the spot where he is, I will urge all and sundry to continue to pray for him for divine wisdom to find a way out of this sad situation.

Truly, Tinubu and Wike have made Rivers State a laughing stock before democratic and civilized states and how the State can come out of this is left to God and the people. But the Governor must thread with caution. The men around him in the picture from the meeting are enemies of the state and will remain so in the eyes of Rivers people.

Finally, I will plead with the church and any caring and concerned NIGERIANS not give up on Rivers State but to embark upon very serious prayer to free the State from satanic holds that are hellbent on strangulating her and looting her resources into private purses.

NITDA Marks National Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2025 With Call For Digital Vigilance

0

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has launched this year’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign with a strong call to Nigerians to adopt safe online practices and take personal responsibility for protecting themselves in the digital space.

According to a press release signed by the Director, Corporate Communications & Media Relations, National Information Technology Development Agency, Mrs Hadiza Umar, held under the theme “Cyber Hygiene for a Safer Tomorrow,” the 2025 edition focuses on promoting simple yet effective habits that can significantly reduce the risk of cyberattacks.

According to NITDA, as daily life becomes increasingly dependent on digital technologies—ranging from smartphones and computers to online services—cyber threats such as hacking, scams, and data breaches continue to rise. The Agency emphasised that maintaining proper cyber hygiene is a shared responsibility that begins with individual action.

NITDA urged Nigerians to embrace the following best practices:

* Use strong and unique passwords for all online accounts.
* Enable two-factor authentication to strengthen account security.
* Keep devices and applications updated regularly.
* Back up important data frequently.
* Avoid clicking on suspicious links or opening attachments from unknown sources.
* Think carefully before sharing personal or financial information online.

The Agency noted that by practising these measures, individuals not only safeguard their personal information but also contribute to the overall security and resilience of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

“As we continue to build a secure and digitally resilient nation, every Nigerian must stay alert, click wisely, and stay safe online,” the statement read.
