Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, has formalised a strategic partnership with Michigan State University (MSU), USA, by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI), paving the way for the establishment of a world-class Faculty of Agriculture at Gombe State University (GSU).

The Governor led a delegation to MSU as part of a working visit aimed at deepening international partnership in agricultural development, research and capacity building.

The Letter of Intent was signed during a ceremony attended by senior MSU officials, including the Chair of the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, Professor Bradley Marks, Assistant Dean, Professor Karim Maredia, and Director of International Programmes.

The partnership outlines several key areas of collaboration, including joint research initiatives, curriculum co-development, faculty and student exchanges and joint projects focusing on sustainable agriculture, water management, landscape restoration and renewable energy applications.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya commended MSU’s global leadership in agricultural transformation and emphasised the importance of North-South cooperation.

“This partnership is a cornerstone of our administration’s drive for sustainable development. We are leveraging MSU’s world-class expertise to build a premier agricultural institution in Gombe State. While GSU benefits immensely, MSU faculty and students will also gain valuable insight through engagement with Africa’s dynamic agricultural landscape,” he said.

The Governor also held technical meetings with faculty from MSU’s Departments of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering, including Professors Ajit Srivastava, Narendra Das, Daniel Morris, and Daniel Uyeh.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya conducted a tour of MSU South Campus Farms with Professor Barry Bradford, Jacquelyn Perkin, and Professor Uyeh.

Further engagements took place at the MSU African Studies Centre, where Professor Leo Zulu received the Governor and his delegation; Alliance for African Partnership Co-Directors, Dr. Jose Jackson-Malete and Dr. Amy Jamison; and Vice Provost and Dean of International Studies and Programmes, Professor Titus Awokuse.

Discussions focused on providing research and institutional support for the planned College of Agriculture at GSU.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya reiterated his administration’s strong commitment to the partnership, citing the recent approval of N1.1 billion for the takeoff of the Faculty of Agriculture in Malam Sidi, as well as the allocation of 365 hectares of land for research, extension services, and future expansion.

He disclosed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has already granted formal approval for the establishment of the college, with academic programmes set to commence in the 2025/2026 session.

Professor Bradley Marks praised Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s vision and commitment. “We commend His Excellency for his strong commitment and follow-up visit. This Letter of Intent reflects a shared determination to deliver a transformative academic partnership,” he stated.

The Gombe State delegation included Hon. Aliyu Baba Manu, Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations; Barr. Moljengo M. Kaltungo, Member, GSU Governing Council; Dr. Ismail Jibrin, Chairman, Gombe State Drugs Management Agency; and Ahmed Husaini, Director General, Research and Documentation.

Following the successful engagements at MSU, Governor Inuwa Yahaya proceeded to New York to participate in the 80th United Nations General Assembly.

Integrity Youth Alliance Criticizes SERAP, Amnesty Over Calls To Drop Sowore’s Defamation Case

0

The Integrity Youth Alliance has faulted recent calls by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and Amnesty International urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to withdraw the criminal defamation charges against African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Kelvin Adegbenga, the group described the calls as “misplaced, biased, and detrimental to the sanctity of justice,” insisting that Sowore must be held accountable for what it termed “persistent defamation” of President Tinubu’s character.

According to the group, Sowore’s actions have “gone far beyond constructive criticism” and now amount to “deliberate falsehood and incitement.” It rejected claims by SERAP and Amnesty that the Department of State Services (DSS) and other agencies were weaponising the justice system to silence dissent.

“Sowore’s posts on social media are not criticism by any democratic standard; they are defamatory, malicious, and inflammatory,” the statement read, adding that his “Revolution Now” campaign was not peaceful dissent but “a dangerous call for insurrection.”

The Alliance maintained that the ongoing lawsuits against Sowore were “necessary and proportionate” under Nigeria’s constitution and international obligations, stressing that freedom of expression does not permit “reckless defamation or the spread of inciting falsehoods.”

It further urged SERAP and Amnesty International to “caution Mr Sowore” rather than “lend credibility to his baseless utterances,” warning that continued support for him would undermine the credibility of the organisations.

“The Integrity Youth Alliance stands firmly on the side of truth, justice, and responsible civic engagement,” Adegbenga stated. “While we will always defend freedom of speech, we equally insist that such freedoms carry corresponding responsibilities, and no individual, no matter how prominent, is above the law.”

IGP Egbetokun Charts A Bold Course For Police Leadership

By Adewole Kehinde

“The capacity for hope is the most significant fact of life. It provides human beings with a sense of destination and the energy to get started.” – Norman Cousins

On Monday, September 22, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force witnessed yet another milestone in its steady march towards transformation as the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, hosted an executive capacity-building workshop for the top leadership of the Force at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja.

The central thrust of the workshop was encapsulated in the IGP’s profound statement: “Conflicts no longer wait. Neither can we. Security challenges no longer unfold at a measured pace; they emerge suddenly, evolve rapidly, and persist stubbornly. If we must win, our leadership must be faster, sharper, and more innovative than the threats we confront.”

This declaration is not only timely but also visionary. It underscores the reality of policing in today’s Nigeria, an environment where threats mutate with alarming speed, demanding leaders who can think on their feet, innovate under pressure, and inspire their teams amidst uncertainty.

The chosen theme of the workshop, “Managing Fast-Paced Security Challenges in a Protracted Conflict Environment”, could not have been more apt. It speaks directly to the paradox of our times: conflicts that stretch across years yet shift shape and intensity daily. In such a context, the demand on police leadership is not only to respond but to anticipate, adapt, and outthink adversaries.

I commend the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) for its foresight and commitment in organising this vital engagement in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force. Their collaboration reflects a recognition that modern policing cannot be pursued in isolation but must be grounded in scholarship, dialogue, and strategic foresight.

The one-day training workshop was thoughtfully designed to enrich the leadership journey of our police officers. The topics discussed were not abstract theories but practical weapons of leadership—tools to equip officers to command with clarity, manage crises with precision, and inspire confidence among the men and women they lead.

I trust that the workshop will usher in a collective transformation within the Nigeria Police Force. Indeed, IGP Egbetokun was emphatic in his charge that the exercise must not end as “a series of lectures and notes” but must produce a shift in mindset, a recalibration of strategy, and a renewal of commitment. This, to me, is the true essence of leadership development—measurable change in thinking and execution, not just participation.

Now more than ever, police officers must seize this opportunity to sharpen their instincts, renew their vision, and reaffirm their oath to serve with courage, honour, and distinction. Nigeria cannot afford leaders who lag behind the threats; we must nurture a generation of police commanders who are always several steps ahead.

The executive capacity building workshop marks a bold step in this direction. For this, I salute the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his vision, his courage, and his unwavering commitment to a Nigeria Police Force that is not just reactive but proactive, not just strong but smart, and not just present but prepared.

Sanwo-Olu Flags Off FNITCC 2025 At Georgia State Capitol

0

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, officially launched the 2025 edition of the Fidelity Nigeria International Trade and Creative Connect (FNITCC) at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, on Thursday, 18 September 2025.

In his keynote address, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos State’s readiness to collaborate with corporate organizations and sub-national governments across the globe to unlock the state’s vast economic potential. He spotlighted Lagos as a powerhouse of non-oil revenue, noting that in 2024 alone, the state attracted $5.95 billion in foreign capital inflows—over two-thirds of Nigeria’s total. In Q1 2025, Lagos maintained its lead, drawing $2.56 billion despite global economic headwinds.

He further emphasized Lagos’s trajectory toward becoming the ninth-largest city economy in the world by 2030, with a population exceeding 30 million and one of Africa’s most vibrant consumer markets. The Governor also highlighted Lagos as the heartbeat of Africa’s tech ecosystem, home to over 2,500 startups, including unicorns like Flutterwave and Andela.

Hosted by leading Nigerian financial institution Fidelity Bank Plc, FNITCC is the bank’s flagship market access platform for non-oil exports. Over three days, the event welcomed more than 3,000 participants—including investors, trade agencies, exporters, and diaspora professionals—with projected trade and investment deals exceeding $500 million.

In her remarks, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director and CEO of Fidelity Bank Plc, emphasized the bank’s commitment to shifting Nigeria-U.S. trade beyond oil. She noted that while Nigeria’s non-oil exports currently stand at under $5 billion annually, the potential is immense. Lagos alone contributes over 30% of Nigeria’s GDP and is home to thousands of export-ready businesses spanning agriculture, fashion, creative industries, and professional services.

“Georgia, with its world-class logistics infrastructure, vibrant diaspora, and progressive trade policies, is a natural partner in Nigeria’s transformation toward a non-oil export-driven economy,” said Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe. “Its ports, airports, and innovation hubs offer Nigerian exporters a strategic gateway into the U.S. market.”

She added, “At Fidelity Bank, we believe access to global markets is a pathway to shared prosperity. That belief inspired the creation of FNITCC.”

FNITCC Atlanta 2025 marks the third edition of Fidelity Bank’s global trade initiative, following successful outings in London and Houston that unlocked over $500 million in export business. This year’s edition is expected to generate a trade and investment pipeline of over $300 million.

Fidelity Bank Plc is a full-fledged commercial bank with over 9.1 million customers who are serviced across its 251 business offices and various digital banking channels in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

The Bank is the recipient of multiple local and international Awards, including the 2024 Excellence in Digital Transformation & MSME Banking Award by BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards; the 2024 Most Innovative Mobile Banking Application award for its Fidelity Mobile App by Global Business Outlook, and the 2024 Most Innovative Investment Banking Service Provider award by Global Brands Magazine. Additionally, the Bank was recognized as the Best Bank for SMEs in Nigeria by the Euromoney Awards for Excellence and as the Export Financing Bank of the Year by the BusinessDay Banks and Financial Institutions (BAFI) Awards.

0

The Delta State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, alongside the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a victim’s vehicle, the suspects’ operational car, and a network jammer.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, on 12th September 2025, operatives led by the DPO of Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, acting on intelligence, apprehended two suspects—36-year-old Elvis Ebroghro and 34-year-old Abiola Adegore—both residents of Ometan. Investigations revealed that on 11th September, the duo had attempted to steal a vehicle battery and threatened a community guard, Abdullahi Mohammed, who challenged them. A follow-up operation led to the arrest of another suspect, Lucky Ebroghro, and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle hidden inside an isolated building in Ometan Community.

In a separate operation, on 8th September 2025, at about 1:30 a.m., police received a distress call over the abduction of a young man in Ogwashi-Uku. The victim, who was shot in the leg despite his family paying a ₦2 million ransom, was later rescued by operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Squad led by CSP Godwin Osadolor.

Two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Chukwuebuka Nka from Aniri LGA, Enugu State, and Uche Okechukwu from Orlu LGA, Imo State, were arrested in Ndemili North LGA, Anambra State, with the victim’s Toyota Venza SUV recovered from them. Further investigations led to the arrest of 18-year-old Somto Chukwuma of Ihiala LGA, Anambra State, and the recovery of the gang’s operational Toyota Matrix vehicle (registration number RRT-331-AE) as well as a network jammer device.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their professionalism and resilience, warning that there would be no safe haven for criminals in the state. He assured residents of the Command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace across communities.

Atiku’s Hunger Revolution: Tinubu, Careless, Pre-occupation Is 2027 Bid, Says Eze, APC Chieftain

0

“….Atiku gave a candid advise borne out of patriotism; I am sure he spoke the minds of majority of Nigerians. Trying to change the narrative and resort to campaign of calumny against the former Vice President is absurd, unpatriotic and shameful” Eze stated.

According to Eze, the level of hunger in the country leaves much to be desired, insisting that “Nigerians have been made to experience hell on earth in just two years of Tinubu’s visionless and nepotistic government….”

Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has cautioned the ruling party and by extension, President Bola Tinubu, not to see every rational criticism from well-meaning Nigerians as politically driven.

Rather than resort to smear campaign and propaganda, Chief Eze insisted that Tinubu’s administration has plunged the country’s economy into a debilitating state, with untold hardship ravaging over 70 percent of Nigeria’s population, and with no solution yet in sight.

“The truth of the matter is that Tinubu started on a bad footing right from the day of his ill-fated inauguration.

“The bandwagon effects of the hyper-inflation and inhuman policies of his administration, are tormenting Nigerians on a daily basis, with no respite in sight” Chief Eze stated.

Chief Eze was reacting to the response of the Presidency on the recent statement by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, suggestive of hunger revolution in Nigeria, in view of maladministration, clueless and insensitive posture of the Tinubu led APC government.

Atiku Abubakar, had decried the high level of hunger ravaging poor Nigerians under the present administration, which he said President Tinubu seems unable to resolve the problem.

The former Vice President recalled how poverty and hunger had caused revolutions in the Arab world, as well as France and Russia, insisting that “no manifest signs that this government is capable of addressing the grim issue of severe hunger staring the poor in the face” after two years in power.
‎
Rattled by the warning of Atiku, that worsening hunger in Nigeria could fuel unrest in the country, the
Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement released on Monday, dismissed Atiku’s claims as “grossly misleading” and “out of touch with the positive developments currently unfolding in the country.”

In a statement on Thursday, Chief Eze
reminded Onanuga that fake lifestyle around the corridors of power will certainly end someday and he will return to the larger Nigerian space.

“I don’t blame Onanuga for his response. If he doesn’t defend Tinubu and propagate falsehoods in defence of this administration’s ineptitude, misguided and clueless government, are the dead Nigerians who exited this world due to hunger, the ones to rise in his defence, Eze queried.

“Though, Bayo is a Yoruba man, I dare him to travel to his hometown of Ijebu Ode, without security and shout, ‘up Tinubu! three times’.

“An educated Nigerian understands what propaganda and false narratives are , but a hungry poor man in the village doesn’t and is always angry, Eze reasoned, insisting that attacking Atiku, was needless and pointless.

‎Eze submitted that the President’s hangers-on, kitchen cabinet and foot soldiers could do well by advising Tinubu to strive harder and warm himself into the hearts of Nigerians, and not to attack, deride and rely on propaganda to insult critics of this administration.

To prove Atiku wrong, Eze said he expected Tinubu and his so called economic team to go back to the drawing board and devise strategic, result and people oriented policies that will cushion the hydra-headed devastating negative effects of bad economy dealing with Nigerians.

“Atiku gave a candid advise borne out of patriotism; I am sure he spoke the minds of majority of Nigerians. Trying to change the narrative and resort to campaign of calumny against the former Vice President is absurd, unpatriotic and shameful” Eze stated.

According to Eze, the level of hunger in the country leaves much to be desired, insisting that “Nigerians have been made to experience hell on earth in just two years of Tinubu’s visionless and nepotistic government”.

The APC chieftain observed that “Tinubu’s greatest undoing against Nigerians is the fact that he started thinking, dreaming and planning of re-election right from day one of his swearing in as President.

“Rather than thank God, sit down and think of how to imprint his name in the annals of great leaders of this country, Tinubu’s preoccupation right from the word go, is re-election.

“I ask Onanuga to tell Nigerians, what he makes out of a situation where his boss, with two years of the worst democratic governance in Nigeria’s history, is eyeing a comeback two years away.

Eze added that if not for his patriotic disposition, he would have counselled Atiku not to offer any positive advice to Tinubu, because he sees every issue now as politics.

“What Tinubu hears and wants to hear is ruling Nigeria for eight years, it doesn’t matter what Nigerians are passing through, Eze opined.

Conclusively, Chief Eze advised Tinubu and his errand boys to restrain themselves from trivializing issues of national importance on the alter of selfishness and beer parlour politics.

“Atiku was right in his statement. Nigerians are hungry. It is only a foolish man or a coward that sees death starring glaringly in the face and stands hands akimbo for it to meet the person. Two years of hell, and you expect Nigerians to sit and wait for six years” Eze queried.

IGP Egbetokun Declares Open Capacity-Building Workshop For Police Leadership

0

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, has declared open an Executive Capacity Building Workshop for top leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, aimed at strengthening the institution’s ability to confront evolving security challenges in the country.

The workshop, held on Monday, 22 September 2025, at the Police Resource Centre, Abuja, was organised in partnership with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, IGP Egbetokun emphasised the need to build leadership that is “faster, sharper, and more innovative” to address Nigeria’s rapidly evolving and complex security environment. “Conflicts no longer wait. Neither can we,” he said, stressing the need for foresight, creativity, and agility in policing.

He commended SPSP for its foresight in bridging scholarship and policing practice, praising the contributions of its founder, Professor Isaac Olawale Albert, whom he described as the “Father of Peace,” as well as Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and the current President, Mr. Nathaniel Msen Awuapila, for their leadership roles in advancing peace studies and practice in Nigeria.

The one-day workshop, themed “Managing Fast-Paced Security Challenges in a Protracted Conflict Environment,” will focus on key areas including conflict analysis, conflict-sensitive decision-making, strengthening early warning and early response systems, and linking conflict analysis to policy development.

According to the police chief, the sessions are designed to equip commanders with practical tools for effective leadership, crisis management, and confidence-building within the force. He emphasised that the goal of the workshop was not just individual learning but a “collective transformation” of the police into an institution that is agile, bold, and united in vision.

“The lessons gained here must echo in our policies, reflect in our operations, and be felt in the daily lives of Nigerians who look to us for safety,” IGP Egbetokun charged participants, urging them to translate insights from the training into actionable strategies.

He declared the workshop open with a call on police leaders to embrace the opportunity as a means to renew their vision, sharpen their instincts, and reaffirm their oath to serve with courage, honour, and distinction.

Nathaniel Awuapila, President of the SPSP, described the capacity building of senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) as critical to reshaping the country’s security architecture and fostering peace, justice, and national cohesion.

Awuapila said the programme is more than a routine training, stressing that it represents “a transformative journey aimed at repositioning the NPF as a proactive, intelligence-driven institution.”

The workshop, which was organised pro bono by SPSP, aligns with the policing vision of the IGP, particularly in areas of proactive crime prevention, adherence to legal frameworks, use of technology in intelligence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration.

According to him, it also dovetails with Nigeria’s National Security Strategy, the Police Reform Agenda, and global peacebuilding frameworks.

“This initiative is a deliberate investment in the ethical, analytical, and visionary leadership required to navigate Nigeria’s evolving security landscape,” Awuapila said.

He added that the training would combine expert presentations, case studies, and collaborative dialogue to equip commanders with the foresight and integrity needed to lead effectively.

He also emphasised that the partnership between SPSP and the Police Force reflects profound respect for the NPF’s role as the lead agency for internal security.

Awuapila hailed the IGP’s support for the collaboration, noting that less than a year after both institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), SPSP has trained officers across various cadres, starting with Chief Superintendents of Police, and now extending to senior leadership.

“In this period, about one hundred officers have joined SPSP and been formally inducted as members.

“Today’s pro bono training is our way of reaffirming the confidence you have placed in us and our commitment to strengthening the internal security architecture of our great nation”, Awuapila disclosed.

The SPSP president also acknowledged the support of key figures in the society, including its founder, Isaac Albert, described as the “Father of Peace,” and Suleiman Bogoro, Chairman of its Board of Trustees, whose leadership he said has provided stability and direction.

Awuapila urged the officers to approach the workshop with open minds and a determination to become transformational leaders capable of confronting Nigeria’s complex and fast-evolving security threats.

“Effective policing is not solely about enforcement; it is about foresight, collaboration, and the courage to lead with purpose.

“Let us challenge assumptions, share insights, and emerge not merely as administrators, but as transformational leaders”, he said.

He expressed hope that the engagement would mark the beginning of a new chapter of excellence, innovation, and unity in Nigeria’s collective pursuit of peace and security.

Over 600 residents of Guzape and Piyakasa communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have benefited from a two-day medical and security outreach organised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Abuja City, District 9127, and private health organisations.

The programme, valued at over ₦10 million, provided free healthcare services including malaria and hepatitis testing, blood pressure and sugar checks, deworming for children, and eye examinations, with 200 residents receiving free eyeglasses.

Speaking at the event, NSCDC Commandant General, Olusola Odumosu—represented by Commander John Alaba Stephen—said the initiative was designed to strengthen both health and security awareness at the grassroots.

“Security is everyone’s business, and synergy between communities and security agencies is vital to tackle criminality,” he said.

Rotary Club President, Gloria Ikibah, noted that the project aligns with Rotary International’s focus areas such as peacebuilding, disease prevention, and maternal and child health. “Through healthcare and security awareness, we are empowering families to live healthier and safer lives,” she stated.

Medical Director of Silver Cross Hospitals, Dr Patrick Ezie, disclosed that cases treated ranged from hypertension, malaria, typhoid, and diabetes to skin infections. He urged residents to embrace regular health checks instead of waiting until illnesses worsen.

The Eye Care Aid Foundation also conducted screenings and provided free reading glasses, stressing the importance of routine eye examinations to prevent conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma.

Chief of Guzape Community, Bitrus Yakubu, praised the initiative but appealed for a stronger security presence in surrounding villages like Badumatiri and Kobe, where kidnappings have been on the rise.

Residents expressed gratitude for the intervention, with beneficiaries like Lami Jiwa and Joseph Daniel describing the free treatment and eyeglasses as life-saving.

The outreach also featured support from Medplus Pharmacy and Dream Awake Empowering Initiative, with organisers pledging continued efforts to build safer and healthier communities across the FCT.
