…FG Delegation Applauds Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s Vision in Animal Husbandry, Value Chain Development

The push by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to revolutionise the livestock sector in Gombe State has gained major momentum with the approval for the establishment of a cutting-edge veterinary hospital in the state under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project.

The veterinary hospital is expected to serve as a centre for diagnosis, treatment, training and research, and will play a pivotal role in improving livestock health and productivity across Gombe State and the Northern region.

The development was officially conveyed by the National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Malam Sanusi Abubakar, during a two-day technical mission to the state, where he led a high-level federal delegation to assess ongoing interventions and review progress.

According to the National Coordinator, the proposed modern veterinary facility forms part of the next phase of infrastructure rollout aimed at strengthening animal health systems, improving disease surveillance and enhancing product certification for both local and international markets.

The hospital is to be located within the newly established 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Development Zone in Gombe.

The zone already hosts major infrastructure projects initiated by the administration of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, including an ultramodern abattoir, an international livestock market, a tannery and a leather factory, among others.

These projects are strategically designed to position Gombe as a national hub for livestock innovation and livestock businesses.

The federal delegation, which included representatives from the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, animal health specialists from the L-PRES National Coordination Office, and other technical experts, visited the proposed site for preliminary assessments and feasibility analysis.

During the visit, the National Project Coordinator expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s level of preparedness and the progress made so far.

He pledged continued support for all livestock programmes and projects in the state, assuring of his Office’s commitment to providing the necessary backing for the successful implementation of the projects.

“This is a pilot project. It has never been done anywhere in the country. Gombe is the first, and we hope the state will serve as a model for other states,” he added.

The Gombe State Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, who conducted the delegation round, described the project as a major milestone for Gombe State and commended the national office for selecting the state to host such a strategic facility.

He reiterated Gombe State’s readiness and commitment to ensuring the successful establishment of the hospital and other livestock-related projects under the L-PRES Project.

In her comments, Ms. Asabe, the Project Manager of Lubell Nigeria Ltd, the contractor handling the project, assured the team of quality execution and timely completion in full compliance with all contract specifications.

While they were still being investigated in custody, credible intelligence revealed that the family business was going on in their house. This led to a raid of their home and a packing store where 231kg of the same substance was recovered by NDLEA operatives on Tuesday, 1st July.

They were subsequently arraigned in charge number FHC/L/632C/2025 at the Federal High Court, Lagos on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, dealing and storage of 414.2 kilograms of cannabis sativa.

In addition to the jail terms, the trial judge also ordered the sum of Three Million, Four Hundred and Seven Thousand Naira (₦3, 407,000.00) only recovered from the couple as proceeds of crime be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Similarly, a Federal High Court in Kano presided by Justice Simon Amobeda has convicted and sentenced a 42-year-old Indian lady, Neetu Neetu to five years imprisonment for importing 72 parcels of heroin factory sealed in wafer wraps and packaged as chocolates, weighing 11 kilograms into Nigeria through the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) Kano.

She was subsequently arraigned in charge number FHC/KN/CR/65/2025 before Justice Amobeda who eventually sentenced her to 10 years on two counts with an option of N2million fine.

In like manner, a 42-year-old Angolan businessman Mbala Dajou Abuba was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison by Justice Mohammed Yunusa of a Federal High Court in Kano following his arrest and arraignment by NDLEA for ingesting 120 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.829 kilograms. Abuba who is from the Zaire province in Angola was arrested on Tuesday 25th February 2025 at the screening point of the Kano airport while trying to board Egypt Air flight MS 880 to Istanbul, Turkey via Cairo.

Equally, a Federal High Court in Enugu has convicted another drug trafficker Eze Christian Ikenna on two counts of unlawful trafficking and possession of 11.20 kilograms of cocaine, brought against him by the NDLEA in charge number FHC/EN/CS/9/2023. He was arrested on January 20, 2023 by NDLEA operatives at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, upon arrival from Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with 11.20 kilograms of cocaine concealed in herbal tea sachets.

He was subsequently arraigned before Justice M. G. Umar of the Federal High Court, Enugu, who eventually sentenced him to three years imprisonment on each count, totalling six years, while the sentence will run concurrently, effective from May 20, 2023.

In yet another high impact breakthrough in its ongoing war against illicit drug trafficking across Nigeria, the NDLEA has secured the final forfeiture of a multi-billion Naira 80-room Hotel and Lounge in Victoria Island Lagos linked to an illicit drug trafficking cartel along with other assets.

The 80-room hotel in Victoria Island Lagos used as cover for distributing illicit substances was raided between Friday 25th and Saturday 26th April 2025 by NDLEA operatives who after hours of combing the rooms recovered 589 bags of Canadian Loud, a strong strain of cannabis with a total weight of 417.3 kilograms worth One Billion Forty-Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦1,042,500,000) only in street value.

The final forfeiture orders were issued on Friday 18th July 2025 by Justice Ibrahim Ahmad Kala following the motion number FHC/L/MISC/447/2025 filed by NDLEA.

Reacting to the conviction and forfeiture court judgements, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the various commands of the Agency, their officers and men that handled the various cases as well as the judiciary for delivering prompt judgements to strengthen the deterrent effect of NDLEA efforts.

“Nothing serves the cause of justice more than when the criminal elements are given long jail terms and made to forfeit all they have acquired through the proceeds of their illicit drug trade, and we’re happy with this kind of judicial pronouncements, which will not only encourage our men to do more but will have long lasting impact on our drug control efforts”, Marwa stated.

Your Lies Will Not Derail Our Reforms; IGP Egbetokun Declares At Decoration Ceremony

In a strongly worded speech at the decoration ceremony for recently promoted officers, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, sent a clear message to critics of ongoing reforms in the Nigeria Police Force: “Your lies will not derail our reforms.”

Speaking at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP reaffirmed his commitment to a merit-based system of professional advancement within the police, stressing that promotions are earned through service, not through gender, ethnic, or religious biases.

“Let me be unequivocal: there is no gender advantage. No ethnic preference. No religious pathway. Only merit,” Egbetokun said, emphasising the integrity of the recently concluded promotion exercise.

Addressing growing criticism from what he described as “a certain corner of social media”, the IGP condemned deliberate attempts to undermine the Force’s progress.

“We know there are those who fear change, who attack progress because it exposes their irrelevance. A certain corner of social media has become a playground for professional mischief-makers and agents of institutional sabotage,” he stated. “They twist facts, malign honourable men, and attempt to discredit noble efforts with shameless dishonesty.”

He warned that sustained provocations would not be tolerated, stressing that the Police Force would take lawful action against those seeking to derail reform efforts.

“Your lies will not derail our reforms. Your noise will not drown our resolve. And your provocations, if sustained, will be met with lawful consequences,” he declared. “The Nigeria Police Force is moving forward, with or without your approval.”

To the newly promoted officers, the IGP underscored the responsibilities that come with elevation in rank, reminding them that the standard has been raised and that higher expectations now follow their new status.

“Your new ranks carry a heavier burden, not just a higher badge… I trust you will rise to meet them, as you have consistently done,” he told the honourees.

He concluded with a broader call to the entire police force, urging every officer to embrace professionalism and excellence.

“The doors of honour are wide open. But they will not be entered with empty hands. Bring your excellence. Bring your discipline. Bring your results.”

Reaffirming his administration’s reform agenda, IGP Egbetokun vowed that the Nigeria Police would continue to evolve until “service becomes synonymous with pride, promotion becomes the outcome of performance, and every officer becomes a beacon of national confidence.”

The event marked yet another milestone in the IGP’s drive to institutionalise meritocracy and restore dignity within the Nigeria Police Force.

Sowore’s Penchant For Self-Glorification

0

By Hassan Yahaya

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has shown strong leadership by promoting over twenty thousand Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). This major promotion has earned him praise from many quarters, as it reflects genuine concern for the welfare and morale of police officers across the country.

But, as usual, Omoyele Sowore is trying to take credit for himself. He claims that the promotions were a result of his #IGPMustGo protest and other demonstrations he has led against the IGP.

This is simply not true. Police promotions are guided by clear procedures based on merit, years of service, and institutional needs, not protests or social media noise. Giving credit to Sowore for these well-earned promotions is not only misleading but also an insult to the thousands of officers who have worked hard for this elevation and to the police leadership that made it happen.

Sowore has a habit of trying to make everything about himself. While protests can be useful in drawing attention to issues, twisting facts to stay in the spotlight is not activism, it’s deception. It misleads the public and stirs unnecessary controversy.

The recent promotions were not a reaction to any protest. They were the result of deliberate planning by the IGP and his management team to reward diligence, boost morale, and enhance operational efficiency in the Force. At a time when the country is facing serious security challenges, these kinds of proactive steps deserve commendation, not baseless attacks.

Unfortunately, Sowore has made it his mission to unfairly target the IGP with constant abuse, even resorting to calling him unprintable names, all because the IGP remains in office lawfully. And I keep asking myself: where was Sowore when former President Buhari allowed the then Chief of Army Staff, General Buratai, to remain in office long after reaching the statutory retirement age, without any constitutional backing?

That’s why I take Sowore’s campaign of calumny against the current IGP with a pinch of salt—and I urge well-meaning Nigerians to do the same. We must not confuse senseless, irrational attacks on public officials with genuine activism.

Criticism is welcome in a democracy. But it must be based on facts, not personal grudges or the hunger for relevance. It’s time we learnt to separate attention-seeking from advocacy and truth from noise.

There Is No Promotion Scam In The Nigeria Police Under IGP Egbetokun

0

By Danjuma Lamido

In recent weeks, a chorus of baseless allegations has emerged from certain quarters, claiming irregularities in the recent promotion exercise within the Nigeria Police Force.

These allegations, in my view, are not only mischievous but also a deliberate attempt to undermine the remarkable strides made under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

Let it be clearly stated: there is no promotion scam in the Nigeria Police under IGP Egbetokun.

The promotion of officers and men of the Force, recently approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC), was carried out in a transparent, objective, and merit-based manner.

It is important to understand that the process followed due diligence, was grounded in institutional regulations, and focused strictly on competence, discipline, and service delivery.

The hallmark of IGP Egbetokun’s leadership has been the entrenchment of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

His reform agenda has consistently emphasised a results-oriented approach to policing, where hard work, commitment to duty, and measurable contributions to national security are rewarded, not ethnicity, favouritism, or political loyalty.

Contrary to the noise in the media space, this recent promotion exercise reflects a clear break from past traditions where lobbying and external influence played significant roles.

Officers were promoted based on performance evaluations, years of service, and contributions to community safety, operational success, and intelligence gathering.

It is regrettable that some individuals, possibly motivated by self-interest or past privilege, are uncomfortable with this new order and have chosen to weaponise misinformation to discredit a process that, for once, is truly reflective of meritocracy.

The IGP deserves commendation, not condemnation, for initiating a culture of excellence.

His administration has not only prioritised welfare and training but is also restoring institutional pride by ensuring that promotion is no longer a function of “who you know” but “what you have done”.

Officers who have served gallantly, some in difficult terrains and under dangerous conditions, are finally being recognised for their efforts.

That is the essence of justice and institutional progress. It is time we support this new paradigm instead of undermining it with unfounded allegations.

The Nigeria Police Force is undergoing a quiet but powerful transformation.

IGP Egbetokun is at the helm, steering it toward professionalism and transparency. Nigerians must resist the attempt by detractors to derail this progress through cheap blackmail and baseless conspiracy theories.

For the sake of national security and the future of the Force, we must allow merit, not manipulation, to prevail.

Ndigbo Young Professionals Defend IGP’s Special Promotion, Say Process Was Transparent And Merit-Based

The Ndigbo Young Professionals (NYP) have risen in strong defence of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, over recent special promotions in the Nigeria Police Force, stating that the exercise was grounded in transparency and merit, not ethnic bias or favouritism.

In a statement issued on Monday in Akwa and signed by its National Coordinator, Ambassador Chukwumeka Chinonso, the group decried what it described as “false insinuations” aimed at questioning the integrity of the IGP and the professionalism of newly promoted officers.

The NYP specifically rejected attempts to cast aspersions on the character and credentials of officers such as Bukola Kuti and Yemisi Ademosu, who were unfairly portrayed by critics as mere “sidekicks” of the police chief. “These officers are not sidekicks. They are accomplished professionals whose records of service and integrity are well documented,” the statement noted.

Ambassador Chinonso emphasised that under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Force has witnessed a renewed commitment to institutional reforms, where promotion is increasingly based on merit, performance, and dedication to duty.

“The recent special promotions approved by the Police Service Commission were part of the IGP’s ongoing efforts to reward excellence and inspire professional standards. These are not political favours but institutional recognitions of service,” he stated.

The NYP urged members of the public to avoid politicising what is essentially a professional and administrative process, warning that such unfounded criticisms only serve to undermine ongoing reform efforts in the Force.

“We fully support IGP Egbetokun’s commitment to building a credible, professional, and forward-looking police institution. Nigeria needs institutions that thrive on fairness and merit, not divisive narratives rooted in ethnic sentiment,” Chinonso added.

The group also applauded officers like PSO1, CP Lateef Ahmed, Force PRO, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, PSO3, ACP Bukola Kuti, and DSP Yemisi Ademosu, commending them for their “consistent dedication to public service and national security”.

“Excellence knows no tribe,” the NYP concluded, “and under the current IGP, the Nigeria Police Force is embracing a future where competence, not connection, is the path to advancement.”

IGP Egbetokun’s Reform Agenda: Merit, Professionalism, And Institutional Pride In Focus

By Adewole Kehinde

“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”Confucius

The Nigeria Police Force, for decades, has been at the receiving end of criticism, some valid, others born out of ignorance and mistrust built on years of mismanagement and neglect. However, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, a silent but firm revolution is taking place, one anchored on merit, professionalism, and the restoration of institutional pride.

Since assuming office, IGP Egbetokun has made it clear that his mission is not merely to fill a seat but to restore the dignity and operational capacity of the Force. His reform agenda is deeply rooted in building a police force that commands public respect and confidence, one that is responsive, responsible, and reflective of modern policing standards.

Meritocracy: A Break from the Past

One of the clearest indications of Egbetokun’s commitment to reform lies in the recent wave of promotions within the Force. Unlike in the past, where allegations of favouritism, godfatherism, and quota politics often trailed promotions, the current administration has emphasised a return to merit-based advancement.

The latest round of promotions approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the planned decoration of these officers by the IGP himself sends a clear message: hard work, dedication, and integrity will be rewarded. This is not just a motivational tool; it is a structural reset. It tells every officer, from constable to commissioner, that excellence is no longer negotiable or optional; it is the pathway to progress.

Professionalism: Policing with Purpose

Egbetokun understands that policing in the 21st century cannot be carried out with 20th-century tools, training, or mindsets. Under his leadership, there has been a renewed focus on training, retraining, and the professional development of officers at all levels. Whether through enhanced tactical training, technology-driven crime-fighting tools, or strategic collaborations with both local and international partners, the IGP is building a smarter police force, not just stronger.

Moreover, his insistence on community-based policing, intelligence-led operations, and respect for human rights demonstrates a holistic understanding of modern security management. Professionalism, for Egbetokun, is not just about appearance or protocol; it is about competence, conduct, and consequence.

Institutional Pride: Restoring the Soul of the Force

Perhaps the most overlooked but most important part of the IGP’s reform agenda is the restoration of institutional pride. For too long, many officers have worn their uniforms with disillusionment, feeling like mere tools in a broken system. Egbetokun is changing that narrative.

By recognising excellence, reviving internal discipline, promoting decorum in public engagement, and improving welfare, including housing, insurance, and healthcare, the IGP is reigniting the spirit of service within the rank and file. Officers are beginning to feel valued, and in turn, they are more willing to give their best to the nation.

The police force is the mirror of a country’s internal order. When it is broken, the reflection is chaos. But when it is polished and upright, it becomes a tool of peace, progress, and protection.

A Cautious Optimism

Of course, challenges remain. No reform is perfect, and no system changes overnight. The Nigeria Police Force still battles issues of logistics, public trust, and legacy inefficiencies. But under IGP Egbetokun, there is a rare glimpse of what is possible when leadership is guided by vision, courage, and a sense of duty.

The road ahead is long, but with a reform agenda anchored on merit, professionalism, and pride, the Nigeria Police Force may finally be on the path to becoming the people-centred, dependable institution it was always meant to be.

The least we can do, as citizens, stakeholders, and commentators, is to support this transformation and hold the system accountable, not with cynicism, but with constructive engagement.
