Cocaine, Tramadol Consignments In Vehicle Side Mirrors Intercepted At Lagos Airport

…… As NDLEA arrests dispatch riders distributing illicit drugs in Abuja, nabs businesswoman behind cocaine in lipsticks, recovers opioids in footwear at Maiduguri airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of cocaine and tramadol 225mg concealed in 71 vehicle side mirrors being sent to Libreville, Gabon, through the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos, with not less than three suspects linked to the cargo already arrested in follow-up operations.

According to a press release on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, signed by the NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the first batch of the consignment, consisting of 57,420 pills of tramadol 225mg and 57 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.60 kg, was intercepted in a cargo going to Gabon on Air Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday, 19th July 2025. A popular cargo agent, Ihekweme Osinachi Benedict, handling the shipment, was immediately arrested, after which further investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Uzochukwu Godspower Chukwurah, on Sunday, 20th July.

Eleven parcels of cocaine with a total weight of 1 kg were later recovered from four additional side mirrors being prepared for export, found in the home of Uzochukwu on Monday, 21st July, bringing the total number of parcels of cocaine to 68, weighing 2.60 kilograms.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives on Friday, 1st August, arrested a businesswoman, Mrs. Nwafor Roseann Nneka, at her shop within the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos, following the interception of 100 grams of cocaine and 300 grams of phenacetine, a cutting agent, concealed in ladies’ lipsticks going to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, through the export shed of the Lagos airport on 10th July 2025.

Two cargo agents linked to the shipment were arrested earlier before the eventual arrest of Nneka who runs the criminal trade as a family business with her husband Remigus Nwafor, currently on the run. In her statement, Mrs. Nwafor admitted she bought the lipsticks used to conceal the illicit drugs while her husband handled the actual concealment.

In Abuja, the nation’s Federal Capital Territory, NDLEA operatives conducting intelligence-led stop and search operations in the Gwarimpa, Jahi, and Galadimawa areas of the FCT on Wednesday, 30th July, arrested three dispatch riders: Sabo Sule, 24; Samuel Nnamdi, 28; and Idris Jibrin, 28, for distributing illicit substances around the city. A total of 149.8 grams of Canadian Loud, a strong strain of cannabis, were recovered from them. Two other suspects, Aliyu Abubakar, 25; and Adekunle Agbabiaka, 30, were arrested along the Abaji-Gwagwalada expressway with 91.1kg of skunk, a strain of cannabis, on Saturday, 2nd August.

In Lagos, NDLEA officers acting on intelligence on Saturday 2nd August arrested Joseph Michael with 3.3 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis in Mushin while Ibrahim Sulaiman was nabbed in Iwaya area of Yaba with 16.5 litres of skuchies on Friday 1st August.

No fewer than 100,000 pills of tramadol capsules were seized from a suspect, Hussein Yusuf, 37, at an NDLEA checkpoint along Vandeikya-Ogoja road in Benue state on Friday 1st August, while operatives in Edo state same day raided a warehouse in Ekpoma where a suspect William Alabi, 44, was arrested and 233.5kg skunk recovered.

In Borno state, NDLEA operatives at the arrival hall of the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport (MBIAM) Maiduguri on Friday 1st August intercepted a consignment of 160 pills of tramadol concealed in footwears by a 38-year-old passenger, Umar Aminu who was promptly arrested.

While NDLEA operatives in Ogun state on Friday 1st August raided the Oja Odan area and arrested a female suspect, Yahaya Aminat Seyi, with 7, 218 pills of opioids mainly tramadol, their counterparts in Oyo state nabbed Oladeji Saka, 54, with 77.5 kilograms of skunk at Asanike, Ibadan, just as another suspect Benson Izah, 40, was arrested in Abraka, Delta state
with 12.5kg skunk, 1kg tramadol and 14.4litres of codeine.

In Bayelsa state, NDLEA officers on Friday 1st August arrested 52-year-old Chief Emeka Opara and Onuoha Chidinma, 25, along Tantua road, Amassoma where a total of 41,705 tramadol capsules, among other assorted opioids were recovered from their shop and residence, while a suspect Bashir Gambo, 30, was nabbed at Yar Yasa town, Tudun Wada LGA, Kano state, with 61kg skunk.

Two suspects: Kabiru Ayinde, 40; and Roqeeb Adekanmbi, 25, were on Monday 28th July arrested at Ile-Ogbo area of Iwo town, Osun state, where 90kg skunk, 36.3grams of methamphetamine, a Toyota bus marked SMK 755 YF and ₦228,200.00 cash exhibit were recovered from them.

In like manner, Commands and formations of the Agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities to schools, worship centres, work places and communities among others in the past week. These include: WADA enlightenment lecture to students and staff of Ciroma Ibrahim Islamiyya School, Potiskum, Yobe; Sultan Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies, Wamakko, Sokoto; metro drivers of Borno Express Transport Services, Maiduguri, Borno state; and worshippers at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Abakpa Nike, Enugu state, while the Osun State command of NDLEA paid a WADA advocacy visit to Oluwo of Iwo land, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi.

While commending the officers and men of the MMIA, MBIAM, FCT, Lagos, Edo, Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Benue, Kano and Osun Commands for the arrests, seizures and their dexterity, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) enjoined them and their colleagues across the country to continue with the ongoing balanced approach to the drug control efforts of the Agency.

Solar Power Boosts Night Trading As Building Materials Association Hails Maikaya Foundation

0

The Building Materials Association of Mararaba has lauded a recent solar power project that has transformed the local market into a thriving nighttime business hub, thanks to an intervention by the Maikaya Development Foundation.

Speaking during an interaction with executives of the Foundation and traders at the market on Saturday, the Chairman of the Association, Sir Christopher C. Ibeh, praised the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Maikaya, for installing solar-powered lighting in the market. He described the gesture as “a remarkable investment in humanity.”

“Before now, the market was like a graveyard once the sun went down. But today, it is beaming with light and life. Our members can now safely trade even at night, which is a huge relief,” Ibeh said.

He emphasised that the lighting system had enhanced security, extended business hours, and attracted interest from neighbouring communities.

“Some of our members are asking about the type and quality of the lights because they want to replicate them in their various communities. That tells you the level of impact this simple but thoughtful gesture has made,” he added.

Sir Ibeh also expressed the association’s willingness to collaborate with the Maikaya Development Foundation on further initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and infrastructure in the state.

“The best thing a man can do is to invest in humanity. That’s what Maikaya has done, and we are proud to be associated with such a visionary leader. We pray that God continues to bless and increase him in strength and wealth. If there’s any call to leadership, he should not hesitate to answer. He is the kind of leader our people need,” he said.

Other traders and association members echoed the chairman’s sentiments, describing the solar installation as both a source of hope and a catalyst for economic development in the area.

In his remarks, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Maikaya said the solar intervention was part of the Foundation’s broader mission to enhance the quality of life across Nasarawa State.

“The Foundation was set up with a clear goal—to touch lives positively. We’ve been supporting youths with scholarships, providing healthcare assistance, offering skill acquisition programs, and distributing cash grants to small traders to support their businesses,” he said.

Maikaya noted that the solar lighting initiative was his way of giving back to the community that has supported him over the years.

“This is just the beginning. There is more to come. We see this relationship as a family bond. Some of you have married into our communities, and some of our people in the East have married there. So, this is a collaborative effort, and we are committed to making lives better through it,” he said.

He also commended the Nasarawa State Government for fostering an enabling environment that encourages business growth and partnerships, adding that the Foundation would continue expanding its reach with more development projects in the near future.

Ndigbo Young Professionals Refute Claims Of Promotion Scandal In Nigeria Police Force

The Ndigbo Young Professionals (NYP) have strongly dismissed recent claims by African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential Candidate, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, alleging the existence of a promotion scandal within the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Ambassador Chinonso Chukwuemeka, the NYP described Sowore’s assertions as “misleading and unsubstantiated,” noting that the latest promotion exercise carried out under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun was transparent and based on merit.

“There is no such scandal within the Nigeria Police Force as being falsely portrayed,” the statement read. “The recent promotion exercise followed due process, institutional guidelines, and merit-based evaluations in accordance with the established norms and procedures of the Police Service Commission.”

The group, a non-partisan and development-driven body of young Igbo professionals, criticised attempts to malign the integrity of security institutions without verifiable evidence, warning that such tactics only serve to demoralise diligent officers and mislead the public.

“We frown at any effort aimed at politicising the affairs of the Nigeria Police Force or spreading propaganda capable of eroding public trust in our national security framework,” the group said.

The NYP urged Mr. Sowore to embrace responsible civic engagement by grounding his criticisms in facts, not assumptions. It reaffirmed its commitment to institutional reforms and transparency in public service while calling on citizens to resist the spread of misinformation that could undermine national unity and public morale.

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of support for officers who continue to serve the country with integrity and professionalism.

SWYA Slams Sowore Over Defamatory Allegations Against Senior Female Police Officer

The South West Youth Alliance (SWYA) has strongly condemned what it described as “malicious and unfounded” allegations by activist and publisher, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, following his recent claims tagging senior female police officer, Bukola Kuti, as the “mistress” of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Director, Adenike Ajanlekoko, the youth group described Sowore’s claims as “a disgraceful attempt to weaponise gender, smear reputations, and distract from the professional progress of competent officers within the Nigeria Police Force.”

“Bukola Kuti is a decorated, career-driven officer whose track record speaks of merit, dedication, and integrity,” the group said. “Attempts to reduce her accomplishments to salacious gossip reflect nothing but the desperation and moral bankruptcy of those who fear the rise of capable women in leadership.”

The group expressed deep disappointment that Sowore, who once championed causes of justice and equity, would stoop to “peddling sexist narratives and character assassination” as a strategy for political relevance.

SWYA warned that continued defamatory attacks against police officers, particularly high-achieving women, would not be tolerated. “We caution Mr. Sowore to desist from further attempts to blackmail, intimidate, or defame innocent officers. His actions are a gross violation of the principles of human dignity and a threat to public morality and gender equality.”

The Alliance urged the public to disregard what it termed “vile fabrications,” reaffirming its support for ongoing reforms and professional development within the Nigeria Police Force.

“We will not hesitate to seek legal redress if these reckless attacks persist. Enough is enough,” the statement concluded.

Police Promotions: FPRO Debunks Sahara Reporters Allegations As False And Misleading

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has strongly refuted recent reports by Sahara Reporters alleging irregularities in the promotion of senior police officers, describing the claims as false, misleading, and a calculated attempt to discredit the Force’s leadership and reform-driven agenda.

According to Adejobi, the publication by Sahara Reporters, owned by Mr. Omoyele Sowore, continues a pattern of targeted attacks laced with baseless insinuations, particularly concerning the recent promotions approved by the Police Service Commission.

He emphasised that the promotions in question were not products of favouritism or secretive arrangements as alleged, but stemmed from a merit-based policy instituted by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM. The IGP’s commitment to professionalism and officer welfare has seen the creation of performance-driven initiatives such as the Nigeria Police Force Awards and Commendations and the IGP’s Recognitions Scheme.

“These schemes were designed to identify and reward officers who demonstrate exceptional courage, dedication, and professionalism,” the statement said. “Officers who received such recognitions in 2023 and 2024 were duly considered for accelerated promotions, following a transparent and rigorous process overseen by the Force Management Team.”

The beneficiaries of these promotions, the NPF noted, cut across various Commands and Formations nationwide, including staff officers and aides at the Force Headquarters, who had met the set criteria for recognition and advancement.

Contrary to Sahara Reporters’ claims, the Police maintained that the promotion process strictly adhered to established guidelines and due process, with no room for impropriety.

“It is unfortunate that Sahara Reporters continues to peddle sensationalism over verified facts, even resorting to circulating forged documents falsely attributed to the Police. This obsession with maligning the Force leadership raises questions about Mr. Sowore’s motives and credibility,” Adejobi said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria police to transparency, accountability, and merit-based progression, urging the public to disregard the misleading publication and remain assured of the Force’s unwavering dedication to professionalism and national security.

IGP Egbetokun Strengthens Technical Intelligence Unit, Reaffirms Commitment To Intelligence-Led Policing

In a strategic move to enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s crime-fighting capacity, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has unveiled advanced technological tools and applications for the Force’s Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), aimed at improving intelligence gathering, crime detection, and the timely apprehension of criminals.

According to a press release signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP also ordered the commencement of intensive training programmes for TIU personnel, aligning the Unit’s capabilities with international intelligence standards. These trainings are tailored to ensure operatives are fully equipped to operate and maximise the new technologies, thereby bolstering the Force’s ability to respond to complex and evolving security challenges.

The Inspector-General emphasized that the continuous shift in global and local crime trends necessitates a dynamic and technology-driven policing approach. He noted that the deployment of advanced intelligence tools and skills has already yielded significant results, including the dismantling of a notorious arms trafficking syndicate operating across Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau States, among other recent arrests.

“This enhancement of the Technical Intelligence Unit is a testament to our unwavering commitment to preventive policing,” the IGP stated. “We will continue to strengthen our intelligence capabilities to stay ahead of criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.”

IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the Force’s readiness to confront emerging security threats with proactive and strategic measures, assuring the public of the NPF’s determination to deliver on its mandate of safeguarding lives and property.

Farewell Papa 1

0

By Comrade Monday Ameh

“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” – Bob Marley

The unfortunate news of Pa Michael Abu Momoh a.k.a Papa 1’s death on the chilling Sunday of 20th July, 2025 came as a huge shock as it hits a lot of us like a volcano, the reason is that he did not show any sign of serious sickness although he was sick on and off a common sign with the elderly.

An inference (Papa 1 may be very much aware of his impending death but elected not to stress, worry or bother anyone, hence he did not give anyone a clue so that nobody will be thrown into panic mode).

Papa 1 meant different thing to those who came across him directly or indirectly when he was alive, to some he was a teacher, father, a disciplinarian, an astute administrator, renowned Medical Lab Scientist, footballer, Consultant and community leader per excellence.

To me, Papa 1 was a foremost mentor, l will proudly say that he mentored me as l learnt so much from him because he was an enigma and a reservoir of knowledge.

With nostalgia, when I moved into this Community, my path and Papa 1 crossed immediately. He was our Chairman during the time under reference, and I remembered that the very first meeting of the community l attended l was very impressed and captivated by his wisdom, dexterity, zeal and passion for service and because I made a contribution to the issue on discourse he discovered me with alacrity and we became very close henceforth.

And without hesitation he started saddling me with tasks and addressing me as a PRO even without election. If you have the zeal and passion for community service, you are an automatic friend of Papa 1.

The dedication and resilience of our dear late Papa 1 even at his old age was immeasurable and indeed a catalyst to anyone who wants to contribute to Community development.

As an elder statesman who ordinarily suppose to watch things happen from either behind the scenes or from the sidelines he chose to lead from the front like an army commander, commanding a troop or battalion.

Pa Momoh was a prolific and excellent writer, after each of our meeting, he will hit the ground running immediately by writing several letters to relevant agencies demanding for one thing or another that will benefit the residents/community.

Without exaggeration, Papa 1 put our dear Community on the podium of recognition and respect within Bwari Area Council and its environs. Need l say that because of his uprightness and boldness our Community is feared till now and forever because if he put pen to paper and write against poor service delivery or any act of corruption by any official of government heads will not only roll but they are always interventions and solutions.

For instance, he contributed immensely towards the acquisition and installation of the transformer in front of his house which is christened Papa Transformer.

And if not for him, the transformer would have since been vandalized or tempered with but for his ever vigilance and incorruptible nature, the AEDC officials fear Papa Transformer like a plague and no one dare to tamper with it, no wonder it has served us for over 15 years and still counting.

Papa 1 was not just a custodian of the Papa Transformer, he provides swift solutions during power outage or when the transformer malfunctioned, AEDC in Jigo and Bwari knew him for that.

This brings us to the question on the lips of everyone who now guard the transformer like Papa 1?

Under his leadership, the community recorded humongous achievements worthy of mention is the enactment of a constitution and the registration of the Community with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) known as ASSOCIATION OF USHAFA VILLAGE EXPANSION SCHEME COMMUNITY RESIDENTS (A.U.V.E.S.C.R) for lack of space we cannot Chronicle his entire achievements, even until his peaceful passing, he was still serving the Community actively, through the ongoing Bye-Laws amendment/review, (we need to conclude the work on time in his honour) and not forgetting his invaluable contribution on the issue of Tenement Rate wherein he will always cite the Australian example.

The reason we call or nickname him Papa 1.

It is simply because Pa Momoh is a no nonsense person, no matter how wealthy or highly placed one is, you cannot dare intimidate him as he has seen it all, never, he was very courageous, witty and bold. During disagreement in meetings when the atmosphere is very tensed and we want to calm him down we will call him Papa 1 and he will just smile and the resolution that will be reached on such matter will always be in line with majority opinions.

Papa 1 despite being a senior citizen that attained the pinnacle of his career; who was retired but never tired, he was exceptionally very selfless, with the stipends he got as his monthly pension he use part of it to serve the community through printing of letters, fuelling of his vehicle to keep appointments and engage with government officials and stakeholders, his act of generosity towards the community course is indiscribable and it is worthy of emulation to all of us present and future leaders.

Papa 1 was an upright man and of high integrity, he will vehemently resist any suggestion aimed at bribing government officials, he will say pointedly they’re paid for doing their job.

Perhaps his upbringing shaped him to abhors corruption, story was told of the intelligent little Papa 1 (when Men were Boys), he wrote an exam for scholarship he came out top but one of the teacher swapped his paper with that of his son, when the results were released people contested his result or performance because they knew the stuff he was made of and with pressure on the school authority the exam was eventually cancelled and rescheduled and while he was in the field playing football with his fellow peers as a prolific striker, he was whisked from the field of play straight into the exam hall, he wrote the exam and still came out top of the class and earned his deserved scholarship from the expatriates, the rest they said is history.

Pa Momoh is a man of due process, because he studied abroad he always advocate for not just due process to be followed through in every matter but he will want things done according to international best practice.

Papa is a Church man, a prominent Elder in Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) FCT, Abuja where he is well known and respected for playing frontline roles in the establishment of many of the Church branches in the city Centers and suburbs alike. In ECWA Ushafa until his death he was a Catechism/Sunday School instructor and a marriage counselor.

You can now see why our Community, ECWA and indeed all who knew him will greatly miss his enduring legacies.

The life and death of Papa 1 is a good lesson for us all, we are very much aware that death is inevitable, but after death what will the living remember each of us for, will people remember us for good or bad? this is a question for reflection.

Let us emulate the worthy legacies of Papa 1, his life of integrity should be our compass and model, his steadfastness, resilience and dedication should propel us to serve our community selflessly no matter the status.

His phenomenal contributions to the Community will remain indelible as he has left a footprints in the sands of time.

It is gratifying to note that the death of Papa 1 is uniting us in view of the supports, uncommon cooperation and financial contributions by our members across Streets and Zones in the estate; and he will be more happier for the unprecedented unity his death brought as this was exactly what he always wish for during his lifetime.

I wish to use this medium to suggest that we immortalize Papa 1 through a collective efforts of all of us to build a Community Hall and name it after him in order to keep his memory in our sub-consciousness even beyond our generation and generations yet to come.

As we bid Papa 1 farewell today, may God in his infinite mercy forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest, Amen.

I/we convey my/our heartfelt condolences to the Momohs and all of us for the irreplaceable loss of our dearly beloved Papa 1.

We love you, but God loves you most and it pleased him to call you back to himself now.

Regardless, we submit to the will of God almighty as Papa 1 is carried home on the Angels wings.

Papa 1 as we fondly call you, as you journey home to meet your creator, this poem is dedicated to your loving memory:

IF TEARS COULD BUILD A STAIRWAY:

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane.

I would walk right up to Heaven
and bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say “Goodbye”.

You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.

My heart still aches with sadness,
and secret tears still flow.

What it meant to love you –
No one can ever know.

But now I know you want me
to mourn for you no more;
To remember all the happy times
life still has much in store.

Since you’ll never be forgotten,
I pledge to you today~
A hollowed place within my heart
is where you’ll always stay.

AUTHOR: UNKNOWN

Indeed it is fitting to say of you (veni, vidi, vici, you came, you saw and you conquered).

You will be greatly missed.

Blackmailing Promoted Female Nigeria Police Officers Won’t Deter Their Work Progress

By Adewole Kehinde

“Every honourable man is forced to yield to blackmail once or twice in his life, just for the sake of keeping peace in the community”Don Marquis.

In recent times, Nigeria has made a commendable stride towards gender inclusivity in security leadership, particularly within the Nigerian Police Force.

Female officers who have demonstrated resilience, competence, and integrity have continued to rise through the ranks, a development that should be celebrated, not vilified. Yet, rather than receive the accolades they rightfully deserve, some of these women have become targets of malicious blackmail, character assassination, and unfounded allegations.

This trend is not only disgraceful but also symptomatic of a deeper societal problem: the discomfort of some with seeing women succeed, particularly in spaces traditionally dominated by men.

The recent promotions of female officers under the administration of IGP Kayode Egbetokun have sparked baseless insinuations, often aimed at questioning the merit of their rise. These insinuations, laced with sexism and envy, are as outdated as they are unjust.

Blackmail is a coward’s weapon, used by those who lack the credibility, courage, or competence to confront others on a level playing field. What is even more appalling is the deliberate targeting of these female officers’ personal lives, rather than their professional achievements.

Such acts not only demean the individuals involved but also damage the image of the police institution and the morale of other hardworking officers, both male and female.

Let us be clear: promotions in the Nigeria Police Force are guided by service records, discipline, years of commitment, and other performance-based metrics.

Female officers who have climbed the ladder have done so through years of diligence, often balancing the complexities of policing with societal expectations placed on women.

Attempting to tarnish their names through blackmail or scandal-mongering will not reverse their accomplishments. If anything, such attacks expose the desperation of detractors who feel threatened by progress. They cannot halt the wheels of change that are already in motion. Nigerian women have come too far in policing, in governance, in business, and in civic society to be pulled down by innuendo and slander.

The Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission must continue to protect the integrity of the promotion process and ensure that no officer is discouraged or distracted by orchestrated attempts to discredit their rise. Internal disciplinary mechanisms should also be activated to bring those engaging in blackmail to book, whether they are within the Force or outside it.

It is high time we evolved as a society. Merit should be recognised and celebrated, regardless of gender. Instead of spreading harmful gossip and falsehoods, let us support the efforts of these trailblazing women who are helping to redefine the image of the Nigeria Police Force.

To every female officer promoted on merit: your progress is valid. Stand firm. No smear campaign can erase the years you have dedicated to protecting this country. Your work speaks for you louder than the lies ever could. And to those who feel threatened by strong women in uniform, you are on the wrong side of history.
