Ndigbo Young Professionals Clears Air On Police Promotions

….. Says Sowore’s Protest Not A Factor

The Ndigbo Young Professionals (NYP) has firmly dismissed claims that the recent promotions within the Nigeria Police Force were influenced by a protest led by Omoyele Sowore, describing such assertions as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its National Coordinator, Ambassador Chuwkuemeka Chinonso, the group emphasised that the promotions under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, were the result of a structured, merit-based process that had been initiated long before the protest occurred.

“The attention of the Ndigbo Young Professionals has been drawn to a misleading narrative currently making rounds in some sections of the media, suggesting that the recent wave of promotions within the Nigeria Police Force was a direct result of a protest led by presidential candidate of AAC Omoyele Sowore,” the group stated.

“As a patriotic, non-partisan body committed to good governance, professionalism, and truth, we find it imperative to set the record straight.”

According to the NYP, the promotion process was a product of institutional procedures jointly conducted by the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission, involving comprehensive performance reviews, disciplinary checks, and evaluations based on merit and service.

They noted that suggesting a protest could influence such a sensitive and structured process undermines the integrity of the police institution and belittles the efforts of officers who earned their new ranks through hard work and dedication.

“These promotions are a reflection of IGP Egbetokun’s ongoing commitment to boosting morale and strengthening the capacity of the Force through merit-based advancement,” the NYP added.

While reaffirming their support for citizens’ rights to peaceful protest and civic engagement, the NYP cautioned against politicising institutional reforms for publicity or personal gain. The group called on the media and public commentators to rely on verified facts and avoid sensationalism.

“The Nigeria Police Force deserves our collective support as it undergoes needed reforms to serve the nation better,” the statement concluded.

Prince Gowon Enenche Champions Nigeria’s Digital Destiny: Empowering Youth For A Prosperous Future

0

In a resounding call to action that aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s ambitious digital agenda, Prince Gowon Enenche, a prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist, has announced a significant initiative to empower 250 Nigerian youths with in-demand tech skills. This visionary program, spearheaded by his G-One Foundation in collaboration with Life Seed, directly answers the urgent plea made by Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, for stakeholders to invest in the nation’s digital future.

A Shared Vision for a Digital Nigeria

Minister Tijani’s strategic blueprint for “Nigeria’s Digital Destiny,” built on pillars of Knowledge, Policy, Infrastructure, Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Capital (IEC), and Trade, underscores the critical need for a digitally skilled workforce. His emphasis on harnessing “the transformative power of innovation and technology, coupled with the ingenuity of the Nigerian people,” resonates deeply with Prince Enenche’s lifelong commitment to community development and self-reliance.

“As a patriotic Nigerian with a passion for youth development, I embrace this call to action wholeheartedly,” stated Prince Enenche, whose roots trace back to the vibrant communities of Imane in Olamaboro Local Government Area and Angwa in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State.

“The future of our nation hinges on our ability to equip our young people with the skills necessary to thrive in the global digital economy. This initiative is our contribution to building that future.”

Bridging the Digital Skills Gap: A Path to Prosperity

The urgency of this initiative is highlighted by stark realities: despite the ICT sector’s astounding 19.78% contribution to Nigeria’s GDP in Q2 2024, outpacing even oil and gas, a significant digital skills gap persists. Reports indicate this gap could cost Nigeria an estimated $11 billion annually in lost growth opportunities, with a 2023 GetBundi survey revealing that a staggering 85% of Nigerian graduates lack essential digital skills.

Prince Enenche’s program, operating through the Life Seed Ultimate ICT and Career Development Summer Bootcamp 2025, directly addresses this critical need. The ongoing bootcamp, which will run until January 2026, is meticulously designed to arm participants with high-demand tech skills, including:

Full Stack Web and Mobile App Development: Empowering the next generation of innovators to build groundbreaking digital solutions. Cybersecurity: Training digital guardians to protect Nigeria’s vital information infrastructure.

Digital and Online Marketing: Equipping youth to help Nigerian businesses expand their reach globally.

AI and Data Analysis: Fostering the ability to uncover insights and drive innovation across all sectors. Copywriting and Content Development: Cultivating master storytellers to shape narratives in the digital space.

The success stories of nations like India, Singapore, and Ireland serve as powerful blueprints for Nigeria. India’s transformation into a global IT powerhouse, Singapore’s relentless investment in digital skills, and Ireland’s strategic shift to a major European tech hub all underscore one undeniable truth: investing in a digitally skilled workforce is the most direct path to national prosperity. Many youth in these nations now earn in foreign currency, strengthening their economies through remittances, a model Prince Enenche envisions for Nigeria.

“We are not just offering training; we are offering a direct pathway to participation in global alignment and Minister Tijani’s strategic blueprint,” emphasised Prince Enenche.

“With youth unemployment being a significant challenge, acquiring these skills isn’t just about a better future for Nigeria; it’s about securing your future and enabling you to contribute to the economic growth and national development our country desperately needs.”

Prince Gowon Enenche’s journey is a testament to the power of combining business acumen with a profound commitment to community. From his early Islamic education in Kano to his studies in Political Science at Kogi State University and ongoing professional studies at the Institute of Professional Economists and Policy Management, his intellectual rigour is undeniable.

His entrepreneurial spirit, first manifested in mining and later diversifying into livestock management, culminated in the establishment of the G-1 Group, a diversified ecosystem spanning automobiles, real estate, and properties. These ventures are not merely commercial endeavours but engines of economic activity and opportunity.

However, it is his unwavering dedication to philanthropy that truly defines him. Rooted in strong family values, his commitment extends to tangible acts of transformative generosity through the G-One Foundation.

From renovating his alma mater and providing access to clean water to equipping youth with digital literacy and supporting the vulnerable, the Foundation is a vehicle for sustainable humanitarian impact, focused on poverty alleviation, educational empowerment, community development, and fostering self-reliance through skill acquisition.

The initiative to empower 250 youths in Kogi East and Abuja FCT stands as a powerful demonstration of Prince Enenche’s impactful leadership and his dedication to practical solutions for national challenges. It is a strategic positioning for national and potentially international recognition, highlighting a force for enduring positive change.

As the Life Seed Ultimate ICT and Career Development Summer Bootcamp 2025 continues its vital work, Prince Gowon Enenche invites more Nigerian youths to seize this unparalleled opportunity.

“We are not just building businesses; we are building futures. We are not just making a living; we are making a difference,” he declared.

“The future of Nigeria is digital, and it’s being built by young, skilled Nigerians like you.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be at the forefront of this exciting
transformation.”

Enrol in the Life Seed Ultimate ICT and Career Development Summer Bootcamp 2025 today and join Prince Gowon Enenche in building a truly prosperous digital Nigeria, together.

NEMA Responds Swiftly To Flash Floods In Maiduguri And Jere LGAs

0

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has launched an immediate response to flash floods that struck parts of Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas following several hours of intense rainfall earlier today.

Acting through its Maiduguri Operations Office, NEMA swiftly activated its emergency response protocols upon receiving distress reports and mobilized a multi-agency rescue operation in collaboration with the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA), Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Police, State Fire Service, and other key stakeholders.

The flooding, which resulted from sustained downpours aggravated by poor drainage systems and building encroachments on natural water channels, caused severe disruptions across multiple communities. Hardest-hit areas include Bolori, behind the gas plants—where more than 20 households were inundated—Ibrahim Taiwo police station axis along Baga Road, Bulumkutu Kasuwa, Bulumkutu Abuja, and sections of Damboa Road.

Emergency responders were deployed to assist affected residents, clear debris, and assess damage. As of midday, floodwaters had significantly receded in most locations, with normalcy returning gradually to the communities.

However, NEMA warned that continued rainfall in the region poses an ongoing risk. The agency and its partners have ramped up surveillance and monitoring activities to provide early warning and ensure rapid response in the event of further flooding.

NEMA urged residents to remain alert, avoid dumping waste in drainage channels, and refrain from constructing structures along water pathways to reduce future risks.

Police Recruitment: PSC Chairman Argungu Seeks FCC Cooperation, Warns Against Racketeering

…Says Transparency and Fairness Must Guide Recruitment Exercise

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, has called for closer collaboration with the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to ensure a transparent and equitable recruitment process into the Nigeria Police Force.

DIG Argungu made this known during a courtesy visit to the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCC, Hon. Kayode Oladele, Esq, and his management team on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Abuja. He disclosed that preparations were underway for this year’s recruitment exercise, which will include Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Inspectors.

Issuing a stern warning, Argungu stated that the PSC would deal decisively with anyone found engaging in racketeering, fraud, or any form of malpractice during the recruitment process. “Any unacceptable behaviour, sharp practices or untoward acts during the recruitment processes will be resisted, and deviants sanctioned,” he warned.

Although a date for the commencement of the recruitment has not been announced, Argungu emphasized that now is the best time to secure the support of the FCC, describing it as a critical stakeholder in ensuring the credibility and inclusiveness of the exercise.

He underscored the Commission’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and fairness, insisting that waivers, replacements, or any form of discretion in recruitment would be unacceptable as they undermine the principles of equity.

In his remarks, FCC Chairman Hon. Kayode Oladele described the visit as a laudable demonstration of inter-agency synergy and a reaffirmation of both institutions’ dedication to fairness, justice, and national cohesion.

“By working together to ensure fairness and balanced representation in law enforcement institutions, we are laying the foundation for a stronger sense of belonging, trust in public institutions, and sustainable peace across the country,” Oladele stated.

He further reiterated that an inclusive police force is vital to national stability, noting that diversity builds public confidence, deters insecurity, and ensures that citizens are served without bias—an outcome that aligns with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Hon. Oladele concluded by reaffirming the FCC’s readiness to work closely with the PSC to monitor and ensure compliance with the federal character principle in police recruitment.

NIMC Successfully Migrates Telcos To NINAuth Platform

0

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the successful migration of all telecommunications operators in Nigeria to its newly developed National Identification Number (NIN) verification platform, NINAuth.

According to a press release signed by the National Identity Management Commission Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the Commission described the transition as a major milestone in its efforts to enhance the security, efficiency, and user experience of NIN verification services across the country.

Designed and implemented by NIMC’s IT/IDD department, the NINAuth platform enables seamless and uninterrupted identity verification, empowering Nigerians with greater control over their personal data. With this migration, telecom operators can now provide improved and continuous verification services to subscribers during SIM registration, SIM swaps, and related processes.

“This achievement underscores our commitment to placing the control of NIN data in the hands of its rightful owners—Nigerians,” said Engr. Lanre Yusuf, Director of IT/IDD at NIMC. “All telecommunications firms have now been successfully migrated to the new platform, and verification services are running smoothly.”

According to NIMC, the NINAuth platform boosts data protection, enhances convenience in accessing services, and ensures a more user-centric verification system.

While the platform is fully functional and accessible, the Commission noted that any challenges encountered by NIN holders related to new SIM registration, SIM swaps, SIM migration, or Welcome Back SIM services should be addressed directly to the respective telecommunications providers for prompt resolution.

NIMC reaffirmed its dedication to providing secure, efficient, and user-friendly digital identity services and pledged continued efforts to improve identity verification infrastructure nationwide.

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, has expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his huge support for the programme’s peacebuilding process in the Niger Delta.

Otuaro spoke on Wednesday while delivering his remarks at the opening ceremony for the second batch of the Leadership, Alternative Dispute Resolution and Media Training organised by the PAP for its stakeholders in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja.

The first batch of the three-day workshop took place from July 16 to July 18, 2025, at the same venue- the Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

He attributed Tinubu’s firm backing of the programme’s peacebuilding initiative to the president’s strong desire for sustainable peace, stability and development in the region and indeed Nigeria.

Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, and Premium Trust Bank, on Wednesday, announced cash rewards for Bayelsa Queens, champions of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).

According to a press release on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the pronouncements were made when the team and the premiership trophy were presented to Governor Diri during the 167th State Executive Council meeting in Government House, Yenagoa.

The elated governor praised the players for another remarkable season in which Bayelsa Queens did not lose any game and for emerging league champions for the second time in three years.

He appreciated the 26 players and the chief coach, Ogbonda White, with a cash reward of N4m each, while eight other coaches in the team got N2 million each.

The governor also announced a N3 million reward for the chairman, while the six board members got one million naira each, N1.5 million to each of the team’s backroom staff, and N3 million for the supporters club.

He urged the team not to rest on its laurels as Nigeria’s representatives to the WAFU B regional qualifiers in Cote d’Ivoire ahead of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

His words: “On behalf of our Government of Prosperity and the good people of Bayelsa State, we say congratulations for lifting the league trophy for the sixth time.

“In 2022, you went for the WAFU B Champions League qualifier and won it for Nigeria. Now you are going again for the second time in three years to represent not only Bayelsa but also Nigeria. You must display the indomitable Bayelsa spirit and return home with the trophy like our Super Falcons.

“Knowing that we have a sports-loving president with what he doled out to the Super Falcons, I believe the Federal Government will support the Bayelsa State government to ensure you do well as the country’s representatives. You are no longer just Bayelsa Queens but you are now Nigerian Queens.”

Governor Diri commended the state’s partners in sports, Premium Trust Bank, for its support to Bayelsa Queens and for identifying with the football development in the state.

He again implored oil firms and corporate organisations doing business in the state to show better corporate social responsibility in developing the youths through sports like Premium Bank.

The bank’s Chief Business Officer, Mr. Offiong Aniebet, who represented the Managing Director, said the organisation was glad to identify with the state’s achievements, particularly in sports.

He also announced the reward of N2 million each to the players and the technical crew.

Also, the Commissioner for Sports, Dr. Daniel Igali, described Bayelsa Queens as not just defending champions but “defining champions,” stating that in 2022 when they represented the country in the CAF Women’s Champions League, they came home with the bronze medal and till date is the only Nigerian team to achieve such a feat.

Igali thanked Governor Diri for providing the enabling support for the team to record consistent achievements domestically and on the continent.

Phantom Coup Allegation: Labour Party Denounces Frame-Up, Decries Harassment Of Leaders

The Labour Party has raised the alarm over what it describes as a “malicious and desperate frame-up” targeting its key leaders, following a petition allegedly submitted to the National Security Adviser by one Abayomi Arabambi, who the party insists no longer speaks for its leadership.

In the controversial petition, Arabambi reportedly accused prominent figures within the Labour Party, including former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi, Nigeria Labour Congress President Comrade Joe Ajaero, Senator Victor Umeh, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, and Dr. Yunusa Tanko, of orchestrating a violent plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration under the guise of a “One Million Man March.”

The said protest, allegedly slated for July 30, 2025, was also linked to a purported plan to forcibly reclaim the party’s former national secretariat located at Utako, Abuja, currently occupied by former chairman Barr. Julius Abure.

In a swift and strongly worded rebuttal, the Labour Party, through Ken Eluma Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Interim National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman, condemned the allegations as not only false but also “laughable and dangerous.”

“The leadership of the Labour Party is not aware of any planned protest anywhere in Nigeria under its auspices,” the statement said. “We have neither authourised nor sanctioned any individual or group to reclaim a property the party has since abandoned.”

According to the party, following the Supreme Court ruling of April 4, 2025, which affirmed Senator Usman as the party’s legitimate leader, law enforcement agencies were duly informed and urged to enforce the judgement. With no action forthcoming, the party said it chose to relocate rather than escalate tensions.

The party questioned the logic of equating a peaceful protest, which it denies planning, with a coup plot, calling the narrative “a throwback to a dark era when dissent was criminalised and opposition voices were silenced through phantom allegations.”

The Labour Party also confirmed that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have begun harassing its officials based on what it described as a “concocted tale” and warned against the implications of such actions on Nigeria’s democracy.

“This is not merely a reckless lie; it is a dangerous and desperate attempt to frame up respected leaders of the Labour Party in a phoney plot to destabilise the nation,” the statement continued. “We call on all security agencies to thoroughly investigate this malicious petition and expose the real actors behind this sinister agenda.”

The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, urging Nigerians to reject what it called “a poorly scripted political drama” designed to instil fear and stoke political unrest.
