The Labour Party has expressed deep sorrow over the reported death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who is said to have passed away in a London hospital.
In a condolence message issued by the Acting National Chairman of the party, Senator Nenadi E. Usman, Ph.D., the late President was described as a “patriot” who served Nigeria with dedication both as a military leader and as a democratically elected President.
“Like every human, he had his shortcomings,” the statement read, “but his unwavering love for Nigeria — evident in many of the decisions he took both as a military officer and as a statesman—remains undeniable.”
Senator Usman offered prayers for the repose of Buhari’s soul, asking Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus. She also extended the party’s condolences to the late President’s family, close associates, and the entire Nigerian populace.
“On behalf of the entire Labour Party family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, associates, and the Nigerian people,” she stated.
Buhari, a former military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, returned to power as a civilian President in 2015 and served two terms before leaving office in 2023.
