Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Sir Braveman Wodi has called on youths of the state to channel their energies into sports rather than criminality.
Sir Wodi made the call at the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Bayelsa State Command Capacity Building Training Programme on Security at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
He noted that sport plays a positive role in advancing national unity and ensuring that the youths are dissuaded from engaging in anti-social activities, pointing out that the Prosperity Administration in the last few years has used sports as a vehicle to curb crime and cultism in the state.
While commending the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC Bayelsa State Command, for the programme, he asserted that the Sports Council would continue to collaborate with PCRC for the good of the state.
Sir Wodi explained that statistics from the Bayelsa State Police Command have shown that during the “Prosperity Cup” there is zero crime in Yenagoa because the youths are engaged in sports, maintaining that sport remains the surest way to give the youths a better living.
According to him, the Bayelsa State Government is committed to the development of sports and has resolved to boost youths participation through grassroots sports.
Sir Wodi equally received a certificate from the Police Community Relations Committee as State Adviser in recognition of his immense support to the PCRC, Bayelsa State Command.
