……..Applauds Raji Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing For Prompt Intervention In Removal Of Obstruction
Following the swift handling and clearing of the obstruction caused by a fallen white tanker loaded with LPG (EPE 104 XX number plate) and a Kia Saloon car with registration number KRD 386 GG, at Mountain Top University on the outward Lagos lane of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway; the Corps Marshal Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi has charged fleet operators to ensure that their vehicles are always road worthy before embarking on trips.
In a statement by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, the Corps Marshal also commended the intervention of the Honourable Minister for Works and Housing, His Excellency, Babatunde Fashola SAN for aiding the speedy removal of the tanker.
The gas tanker fell around the Ibafo area of the expressway and caused undue gridlock which saw commuters stranded during the cross over night. While the Corps worked out modalities for immediate removal of the obstruction, the Honourable Minister’s intervention was critical to the evacuation of the tanker.
The Corps Marshal stated while commending the Honourable Minister that it took his authorisation to contact FP&FP Limited, a private crane operator company with the required tonnage capacity to lift the tanker before the success was finally achieved at exactly 0800Hours.
He added that due to the magnanimity of the Minister and the urgent need to clear the road and ease vehicular movement, he gave the Corps Marshal the Authority to Incure Expenditure (AIE) which led to the mobilisation of the crane company for prompt removal of the tanker.
While charging the operators of fleets to ensure that they put their vehicles in good working condition before setting them out on trips; Oyeyemi called on public office holders to emulate the Minister’s proactive approach to issues of national importance, especially those sensitive to the safety of lives and properties, because road safety is everybody’s business.
The crash occurred at about 1300Hours on Thursday 31 December, 2020 and involved 5 persons on board the 2 vehicles, 3 male and 2 female adults who came out of the crash unhurt
