The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, H E. Timipre Sylva has been honoured by a team of journalists under the auspices of Corruption Reporter, for his leadership role in the fight against corruption in the Petroleum Industry.

According to a press release signed by the GGM/SA Media to HMSP, Garba Deen Muhammad, he said that speaking on behalf of the team, Mrs.  Adaora Onyechere, a member board of trustee, submitted that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources had justified the confidence reposed in him by President Muhammadu Buhari in leading the Petroleum Industry to fight corruption, institute transparency and accountability.

Mrs Adaora pointed out that Corruption Reporter, having observed the activities of the Ministry under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of State for two years, the body deemed it fit to honour the Minister of state as a way of inspiring him to do more.

The team particularly pointed out that certain initiatives by the Ministry and its Agencies such as the publication of the NNPC audit reports for the first time in forty three years, the National Gas Expansion Programmes (NGEP), Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline project and the signing of Final Investment Decision for NLNG Train 7 among others had demonstrated that the Minister of state had contributed to the growth of the industry.

Responding, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, H.E. Timipre Sylva commended the Corruption Reporter’s team stressing that the fight against corruption had consistently received a boost from President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership through initiative such as the Treasury Single Account, TSA.

He noted that the policy had arrested corruption impeding direct flow of resources to the nation’s coffer, calling on Nigerians to join hands with the President in fighting the menace of corruption by reporting corrupt practices in every sphere of governance and national life.

The Minister of State emphasized that his leadership would ensure that Petroleum industry continue to adopt best practices for the advantage of the populace.

H.E. Sylva also expressed the hope that Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which has been laid before the National Assembly and would soon be passed into law will change the narrative and fast track transparency and openness in the industry for the development of the nation.
