
The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, mnips, fwc, psc (+), as the 30th Commissioner of Police in the State. He takes over from CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, psc, mnips, who has been redeployed to the Police Staff College, Jos, as Deputy Commandant on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police.
According to a press release on December 11, 2025, signed by the Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, CP Chuso brings extensive operational expertise, strong administrative skills, and a distinguished professional track record to his new role. He appealed to residents and key stakeholders for cooperation and support in combating crime and strengthening security across the state.
A native of Sokoto South LGA in Sokoto State, CP Chuso holds a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP on June 10, 1994, and trained at the Police Academy, Wudil. His career has seen him occupy several strategic positions, including

* Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos (July–December 2025)
* Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Kano State (2023–2025)
* Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID, Kano State (2023)
* Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State (2019–2022)
* Pioneer Area Commander, Argungu, Kebbi State (2017–2018)
He has also served in various other roles, such as CSP Admin in Kebbi State, Directing Staff at the Police College, Kaduna, and Divisional Police Officer in several formations, including Illela, Yauri, Argungu, Bagudo, Unguwar Rimi, Sokoto Central Division, Gwiwa, and Augie. His experience further includes postings at FCID (Interpol) Abuja and roles such as Officer in Charge of Pay and Divisional Crime Officer, Argungu.
CP Chuso has attended numerous professional and leadership courses both locally and internationally, including Tactical Leadership and Combat Training, Citizenship and Leadership Training, the Human Rights Protection Course at Texas Southern University (USA), the Army War College’s Higher Military Strategy Course, and the Advanced Detective Course. He is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies (MNIPS).
The Commissioner, who enjoys reading and playing badminton, is married with children.
In his inaugural address, CP Chuso called on traditional rulers, religious institutions, youth groups, community leaders, and residents to work closely with the police by providing actionable and timely information to improve crime prevention and rapid response efforts. He assured the public of renewed commitment to safeguarding lives and property and sustaining peace and stability throughout Nasarawa State.
