The Centre for Public Accountability (CPA) , has commended President Buhari for reappointing Professor Yakubu Mahmood as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, saying the President’s decision is a confirmation of the commitment of the confidence of Nigerians, in the capacity of the INEC Boss, towards improving the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.
This was stated by the group on Monday through its Executive Director, Olufemi Lawson, in a statement issued in Lagos.
CPA, while congratulating the INEC Boss on his reappointment, said Nigerians are beginning have more confidence in the Commission, due to his various initiatives during his first term in office, which witnessed series of innovation, that has improved the credibility of elections in the country. The group further said Prof Mahmood has ran a transparent and inclusive administration, during his first term in office.
CPA pointed out that Mahmood remained a patriotic citizen who is making Nigeria proud by superintending the electoral process with a sense of utmost dedication and forthrightness.
“As he get the opportunity to serve in this capacity for anorher term, we admonish Professor Mahmood to sustain his transparent and inclusive administration at INEC, just as he did, during his first term, to ensure constant improvements in Nigeria’s electoral system.”
“We are not in doubt that Professor Mahmood has acquitted himself excellently and has bequeathed to the nation an electoral system that is in a better shape than what he met on the ground.
