The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against criminal elements, with the arrest of a notorious drug dealer and the interception of a suspect transporting 400 rounds of live cartridges.
The Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, said the successes were achieved through intelligence-led policing and sustained tactical surveillance across the state.
Suspect Arrested with 400 Live Cartridges
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command disclosed that on October 16, 2025, at about 12:00hrs, operatives attached to the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted a Toyota Hiace Hummer Bus with registration number NGK 16 XB during a routine stop-and-search operation at the Head Bridge, Asaba.
The driver, identified as Ozoemenam Sylvanus, reportedly appeared uneasy when questioned, prompting officers to conduct a detailed search of the vehicle. The search led to the discovery of 400 live cartridges concealed within the bus.
According to the statement, the suspect initially claimed the parcels contained padlocks, but his deception was exposed when the officers opened the packages and discovered the ammunition. The suspect was arrested immediately, and an investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the arms.
Notorious Drug Dealer Nabbed in Orerokpe
In a separate operation earlier on October 10, 2025, at about 20:45hrs, operatives from the Orerokpe Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Onos Afokoghene (male, 37 years), a well-known drug baron, alleged to have been distributing large quantities of hard drugs within Warri and nearby communities.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Paul Oboware, led his team to a flashpoint in Jeddo Community, where the suspect and his accomplices were reportedly selling and consuming illicit substances. On sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, but Afokoghene was apprehended after a brief chase.
Items recovered from the scene included 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of “monkey tail” (weed soaked in dry gin), several sachets of Tramadol of various milligrams, and two POS machines suspected to be used for drug transactions.
