Delta Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers

…… Recover 178 Live Cartridges, Rescue Victim

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing campaign against kidnapping, armed criminality, and illegal arms trafficking, with the arrest of suspected kidnappers, the rescue of a victim, and the recovery of 178 live cartridges in coordinated operations across the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operations were carried out in Bomadi, Asaba, and Ubeji communities through intelligence-led policing and swift tactical deployment.

178 Live Cartridges Recovered in Bomadi

According to the statement, operatives of the Bomadi Police Division, led by Divisional Police Officer CSP Adie Peter Bissong, intercepted a motorcycle along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road on October 30, 2025. A search revealed a concealed sack containing 178 live cartridges reportedly purchased from Onitsha Main Market.

The suspect, a 62-year-old woman identified as Charter Timide, confessed to transporting the ammunition to Tuomo Community. She has been transferred to the State Headquarters as investigations continue to trace her suppliers and possible links to armed groups.

Kidnap Suspects Arrested, Victims Rescued in Ubeji

In another operation on the same day, operatives from the Ekpan Division responded to a distress call about a kidnapping incident near the Ubeji Gas Plant. On sighting police teams, the suspects fled into an abandoned poultry house but were swiftly surrounded and apprehended.

The arrested suspects are Felix Omone (33), Solomon Omone (29), Tony Eboye (34), Omone David (32), Jerry Omone (33), Godspower Omone (25), and Edewho Bomele (33), all from Ubeji Community.

Three male victims from Jeddo Community, abducted from a dredging site and ferried across a river, were rescued unhurt and reunited with their families. The suspects allegedly threatened to kill the victims if ransom demands were not met.

Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest accomplices who fled the scene and recover weapons used in the operation.

CP Commends Officers, Urges Public Cooperation

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, lauded the officers for their swift and professional response, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to eliminating criminal activities in the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid harbouring criminals, and promptly report suspicious activities to the police via the Command Control Room on 08036684974.
