The Delta State Police Command on Tuesday joined nationwide activities marking 70 years of women in the Nigeria Police Force with a 5km walkathon in Asaba aimed at raising awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Delta State Command, the event, held on 2nd December 2025, was led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and coordinated by senior female officers of the Command. It drew participation from women police personnel across divisions, male officers, partner organisations, and members of the public, all marching in solidarity with GBV survivors and celebrating the contributions of women to policing since 1955.
Speaking at the event, CP Abaniwonda and other senior officers reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to gender-responsive policing and strengthening support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and related offences.

They described the 70-year milestone as a testament to the resilience, professionalism, and leadership of generations of women who have shaped Nigeria’s policing landscape.
The Commissioner of Police commended female officers in the Command for their dedication to crime prevention, investigations, community engagement, and victim support. He stressed that tackling gender-based violence remains a top priority for the Delta State Police Command and urged residents to report all incidents promptly.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and enhancing collaboration with stakeholders to curb GBV across the state. Residents were encouraged to report cases of domestic or gender-based violence to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line: 08036684974.
