
The Delta State Police Command has intensified its clampdown on cultism, illicit drugs, and violent crime, recording major breakthroughs in separate operations across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in Asaba, in an intelligence-driven raid carried out on December 6, 2025, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team stormed a residence at No. 2 Umeghe Community in Abraka, leading to the arrest of a 67-year-old suspect, Isiakpere Friday. The operation, conducted at about 7:30 a.m., resulted in the recovery of two pump-action guns and 39 live cartridges.
Police authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the suspect’s possible links to cult groups and illegal arms networks.
In a related development, operatives of the Buffalo Unit have intensified efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking across the state. Following a series of targeted operations at locations notorious for drug-related activities, including the Play-Learn Area, Sweet Spirit Area, and Pinnacle Junction, 18 suspects were arrested and arraigned before a competent court on December 5, 2025.

Those arraigned include: Wisdom Nwanze (38), Godspower Vincent (25), Trust Bobua (17), David Mifford (21), Friday Daniel (35), Emmanuel Dakuru (25), Innatji Ekenea (27), Umar Isah (22), Samuel Hosanna (31), Rabiu Abubakar (31), Dada Usman (22), Dada Usman (20), Danjuma Jonathan (31), Onyeka Solomon (16), Garba Abdullaman (20), Rolniho Paul (26), Abwal Clarius (30), and Aliyu Abubarka (22). They were remanded in prison custody pending fulfilment of their bail conditions.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, praised the officers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to intelligence-led policing. He stressed that the Command would not tolerate cultism, drug trafficking, or any activity that undermines public safety, urging residents to continue providing credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
