…. Recover Firearms and Stolen Vehicle
The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against violent crime, with the arrest of a suspected armed robber, the recovery of several firearms, and the neutralisation of a deadly armed robbery, murder, and rape syndicate operating within the Ughelli axis.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command said the operations were carried out under the strategic leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.
Syndicate Behind Murders, Robberies and Rape Dismantled
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) on 19 November 2025 stormed a suspected criminal hideout at the outskirts of Panama Layout, Ughelli. The hideout was reportedly used by a violent syndicate responsible for several heinous crimes in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Four suspects — Peter Ejenekevwe (31, a.k.a. Calamity), Clever David (35), Chukwuemeka Gospel Onuchukwu (29), and Onome Collins (32) — were arrested during the operation. According to police, the suspects confessed to the robbery and murder of Anthony Igoroko Omowho on 11 November, revealing that they trailed and stabbed him to death after robbing him, his wife, and medical staff at Saint Nicholas Hospital.

They also reportedly confessed to robbing a POS operator and her husband the same night, injuring the victims and raping the family’s 18-year-old sister-in-law.
A follow-up search in a nearby bush led to the recovery of two locally made long guns, three locally made short guns, twenty-three live cartridges, and two Lexus 350 keys, leading to the discovery of the victim’s stolen Lexus SUV (Reg. No. KUJ 788 DR).
However, operatives were ambushed by fleeing gang members while withdrawing from the area and returned fire. The four suspects in custody were struck by bullets during the crossfire and later confirmed dead at General Hospital, Ughelli. One police officer sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention. The corpses of the suspects have been deposited in a morgue as investigations continue.
One Suspect Arrested in Agbarho Robbery Case
In a separate incident, the Agbarho Police Division arrested a 19-year-old suspected armed robber, Victor Peculiar, following a violent home invasion in Uvwiama New Layout, Agbarho.
According to the report, five armed men broke into a residence around 3:00 a.m. on 18 November 2025. The attackers allegedly fired shots through the window when they saw the occupant attempting to defend himself with a machete, damaging a 43-inch television and other household items.

The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Pius Eredei, led a coordinated response with support from the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), resulting in the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of a locally fabricated double-barrelled short gun.
CP Abaniwonda Commends Officers, Urges Residents to Support Police
CP Abaniwonda described the operations as evidence of the Command’s strengthened capacity and unwavering commitment to dismantling violent criminal networks in the state. He encouraged residents to remain security-conscious and share credible information with the Police, assuring that all reports will be handled confidentially.
