Egbetokun Not Struggling With Office Demands; SWYA Counters Online False Publications

The South West Youth Alliance has countered the online coordinated mischievous publications, saying that Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun is battling health challenges linked to a kidney condition.

Responding to the false information published by Sahara Reporters titled “EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian Police IG Egbetokun Battles Kidney Condition, Struggles With Office Demands,” the Publicity Secretary of the South West Youth Alliance, Adenike Ajanlekoko, said that it is pure blackmail to say that IGP Egbetokun has limited his time at the Force Headquarters, typically arriving around 1 p.m. and leaving early.

“We can say authoritatively that IGP Egbetokun arrives at the office as early as 9 am and closes very late, mostly at 8 pm, and continues from where he stopped at home until 2 am on most occasions, Ajanlekoko said.

“It is untrue that IGP Egbetokun has recently been experiencing health issues due to stress. The IGP is very fit to face his duty as the Inspector General of Police.

“It is so unfortunate that Sahara Reporters could stoop so low to say, ‘…he lives with only one kidney after facing a kidney-related problem years ago when he was a Chief Superintendent of Police.”

“We wondered why an online medium, especially Sahara Reporters, keeps using the “kidney issue” against the IGP because, from our medical research, life expectancy is not considerably shortened by having one kidney. One kidney can sustain normal renal function and work efficiently. People who only have one kidney often lead healthy, normal lives, though there may be a tiny increased risk of high blood pressure.

“We can state categorically that IGP Egbetokun is fit and sound and attends several meetings, files, commissioning and courtesy visits daily. He is not having any challenges affecting his work schedule, as mischievously reported by Sahara Reporters, the statement concluded.
