Today, I join the rest of the world to mark the International Youth Day, a day set aside by the global community to focus attention on the opportunities, achievements and challenges faced by the most vibrant population of the human community.

I acknowledge the remarkable contributions of youths in Nigeria to the creation of wealth, promotion of good governance as well the security of lives and property of our citizens.

The young women and men who continue to lay down their lives and sacrifice their comfort as they serve in our Police and Armed forces deserve special appreciation on an occasion as this.

The services of our youths in the creative industry, Sports and ICT who continue to attract great honour to Nigeria in the community of Nations are also worthy of applause.

As we celebrate this years International youths Day, I wish to admonish that Government at all levels redouble efforts at job creation and human capital development as the only panacea to most of the ills adversely affecting the growth of our country.

I also encourage our youths to embrace appropriate skills acquisition, shun drug abuse , engage in more volunteerism and positively engage with their counterparts across social, tribal or religious divides in order to build a cohesive, greater Nation.

In the spirit of the theme of International Youth Day 2020 which is “Youth Engagement for Global Action”, our young leaders must rise to occupy the front lines in generating sustainable ideas, advocacy and decision making at local, National and international levels.

While celebrating our accomplishments as youths, we must not shy away from reminding ourselves that there is still so much ground to be covered and so much more work to be done to guarantee prosperity for the greater number of our people and restore our dear country, Nigeria to the path of honour, peace and progress.
