Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has commended security agencies operating in the state for dislodging and destroying camps set up by bandits and kidnappers in parts of the state.

Engineer Sule made the commendation in his speech during the state executive council meeting, which held at the Government House, on Friday.

The Governor expressed appreciation, particularly to the combined forces comprising the military, Special Forces in Doma, 177 Brigade Keffi, Operation Whirl Stroke, including the Air Force and Navy, currently undertaking a joint operation, in Toto Local Government Area, aimed at bringing to an end activities of bandits and kidnappers posing security challenge to the state.

According to Engineer Sule, security operatives have succeeded in destroying most the camps belonging to bandits, forcing them to flee the area, leaving behind their families, with so far, the state government in custody of close to 500 women and children.

The Governor added that the state government has reached out to both the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs, as well as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), with a view to seeking their support in taking care of the displaced family members of the bandits.

Engineer Sule specifically commended President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as members of his security team, that gave Nasarawa State the support in seeing that the emerging security threat is removed completely.

The Governor equally thanked the President, as well as the Council of State, for giving Nasarawa State the Chairman of the National Population Commission, together with an additional member.

“We are lucky now we have two members in the commission. I want to use this opportunity to congratulate both of them, the Chairman, Nasiru Kwarra and a member, His Excellency, Silas Agara,” he stated.

Engineer Sule used the opportunity of the meeting to update the people of the state on COVID-19, disclosing that so far, the state has recorded 427 confirmed cases, discharged 330, with 16 persons in isolation centres, while 64 others are on self-isolation.

The Governor further disclosed that the three local governments of Karu, Keffi and Lafia, recorded 86 percent of the cases with each of the councils recording, 130, 124 and 113 respectively.

Engineer Sule used the opportunity of the meeting to thank members of the state executive council, as well as the entire people of the state for the continued support and understanding during the COVID-19 period.
